“The record company should be freakin’ embarrassed,” the ‘America’s Song’ hitmaker told the Radio Times (as quoted here). “Somebody should be held accountable.”

The fact everyone on The Voice seemed to disown her probably didn’t help, but there you have it.

“These singers are on television every week,” he added. “So you’ve already accomplished things that stars don’t accomplish.”

Mitchell’s debut single missed the Top 50, while her recently released album missed the Top 100, which i.am thinks is because the label waited so long to release it.

“Do you wait a year later? Somebody should get slapped because you waited too long,” he concluded.

In an interview with The Sun, will.i.am said he’d be “up for coming back”.

“I have thought about next year,” he explained. “If you are having a good time doing something I don’t see why you’d want to stop. I’d be up for coming back. I like hanging out with Jessie and Dan and Tom’s company.”

“But I would be cool if they replaced me,” he continued. “I don’t stress out. If they want to hit the refresh button I would just think I’d had a good time the two years I was on it.”

Last week the BBC confirmed the 2014 return of the show. Yesterday’s episode hit a new ratings low, with just 5.67m people tuning in to see whatever was happening.

“We start next week,” he said, speaking at the Museum of Natural History in New York. “Before we even start we’ve had these juicy sessions, where we’ve been bonding, building the trust and comfort. I’ve never worked like this before – not even the Peas.”

He continued: “I said [to Britney], ‘Let’s talk about what you’re excited about. Let’s talk about things you’ve done in you career, what you’re happy about. Let’s talk about spending time with your kids, let’s talk about your breakup. Let’s talk about how now you’re single, how independent you might feel.’”

The theme of ‘independence’ has brought us some solid songs in the Britney discography so that sounds like a decent path to follow.

“After I did a song on ‘Femme Fatale’ – ‘Big Fat Bass’ – and then we did ‘Scream & Shout,’ she really liked the way we worked because of my approach,” he told Rolling Stone.

“So they asked me to be involved in, not producing and writing every song, but to be an executive producer on the songs.”

Well at least that’s something.

As for content, he said he has to be the “vehicle between her and her fans”.

“We can’t do another song about going on the dancefloor,” he explained. “Really? Didn’t we see a bunch of Britney doing that already? Don’t we want to see something that comes from her heart?”

From what MTV have summarised, the whole thing was a bit of ploy to keep Mr i.am’s ego massaged, with Britney dropping by to claim that will “gets our generation”, which if true is a terrifying claim.

Nicole Scherzinger then revealed that “will and god have been the authors of my life”, while Miley Cyrus said her album would have been out sooner if it wasn’t for all the fun she was having in the studio with the ‘Girl Is Mine 2008′ hitmaker.

For will’s part, he had this to say about ‘#willpower’: “This record is the 15-year old version of me.”

That explains a lot.

Britney – or someone in charge of her Twitter account – is worried i.am might be late, but apart from that it should be quite the thing.

Producer Arty got quite upset after hearing i.am’s ‘Lets Go’ and accused the ‘Yes We Can’ hitmaker of using the song without permission.

“Arty is a dope producer so I wrote this song ['Let's Go'] to ‘Rebound’ this last year,” will told Kiss FM (as quoted here). “I got in touch with Arty and showed it to him… But something happened and hopefully we can resolve the issue.”

“It’s sad that it’s turned into a fiasco but hopefully it’s resolved, because I’m a fan of those guys,” he continued. “I contacted them last year and we’re fixing it now.”

‘Fixing it now’ means ‘paying out some money’, we imagine, although we do have to commend Will on his use of the word ‘fiasco’.

As you well know, the awards aim to highlight ”the work and talent of those who push the boundaries of creativity in advertising and beyond”.

This is all very well, but what does CLIO Awards executive director Nicole Purcell have to say about it all?
