A ‘slew’ of new information has appeared regarding the forthcoming, Stuart Price-produced Pet Shop Boys album ‘Electric’. The artwork is [...]

A ‘slew’ of new information has appeared regarding the forthcoming, Stuart Price-produced Pet Shop Boys album ‘Electric’.

The artwork is the blue thing you will see to your right.

Example appears on a song called ‘Thursday’, Bruce Springsteen cover ‘The Last To Die’ (as performed live on recent dates) is track six, the amazing italotronic teaser track from last month is really called ‘Axis’ and opens the album, there’s a Boys Noize mix of ‘Axis’ on its way, the whole thing’s out on July 15, and you can pre-order it on iTunes right now.

Neil and Chris told a press release that “‘Electric’ is very much set on the dance floor,” adding: “Our latest album often evolves as a response to our previous album and, whereas ‘Elysium’ had a reflective mood, ‘Electric’ is pretty banging! [TRANSLATION: GET ON YOUR DANCING SHOES] And working with Stuart Price on a studio album is something we have wanted to do for a very long time.”

In further copy and paste action, Stuart Price adds: “Making ‘Electric’ was an exciting experience. We recorded it between Berlin, London and Los Angeles using various techniques between old school synth and drum machine programming and new school computer mangling. For me it was a chance to work with two people who shaped so much of my musical taste, yet who keep on pushing farther in both a natural and unexpected fashion. ‘Disco’ (from 1986) was an album that always spoke to me because it blended song arrangements with dance floor mixes, and that is what ‘Electric’ felt like to make. Allowing songs to be full length without considering the pop rules, disregarding classic structures and instead just working instinctively on what was fun and danceable.”

The full tracklisting, meanwhile, is:

1. Axis
2. Bolshy
3. Love Is A Bourgeois Concept
4. Flourescent
5. Inside A Dream
6. The Last To Die
7. Shout In The Evening
8. Thursday
9. Vocal

The page that all this info has come from claims that a video for ‘Axis’ should be here although at the time of writing that’s just a private video. Perhaps it will have magically sprung to life by the time you read this.

Finally, there is a new photo, which we have enlarged for you so that it fits the usual width we use for images on Popjustice. If you’re unhappy about the quality, simple take a few steps back from your computer or ‘mobile device’.

THE BOY CAP IS BACK.

Up-and-coming pop duo Pet Shop Boys have left Parlophone after 28 years and will release their new album ‘Electric’ via Kobalt [...]

Up-and-coming pop duo Pet Shop Boys have left Parlophone after 28 years and will release their new album ‘Electric’ via Kobalt Label Services, reports Music Week.

The new album – due in June – was produced by Stuart Price, which seems like a good idea does it not.

Here’s what Neil and indeed Chris had to say about it all:

“This is a very exciting point in our careers. We are hugely proud of the new album and are very pleased to be working in conjunction with Kobalt. We’d like to thank everyone we’ve worked with at Parlophone over the last 28 years both in the UK and abroad.

“When we signed to the label in 1985 we had no idea how long and successful a relationship we were embarking on. However it is also exciting now to commence a new phase working with a new team in a new business structure and we look forward to a creative and equally fulfilling relationship with Kobalt.”

A little light on LOLs as press statements go, but not to worry. There’s also a tour of course, which starts on June 18 at the 02.

EDIT: There’s now a fancy trailer for the album, which you can watch below.

Pet Shop Boys were on Jo Whiley’s Radio 2 programme this evening and announced two things.

THING ONE
They’re doing something involving an orchestra but we missed that bit because we were making dinner. We’ll update this when it’s announced properly. Update: It’s a one-off live show, it’s in SALFORD, it’s on December 5, it’s with the BBC Philharmonic, and due to limited tickets there’s a random draw. More info here.

THING TWO
The Stuart Price refit of ‘Memory Of The Future’ will be the proper radio edit of the single when it’s released on December 31. It’ll be out on two digital bundles and two CD singles, so there should be one or two b-sides knocking around, one would imagine.

Anyway this is what the Prico mix of ‘Memory Of The Future’ sounds like. It’s rather perky.

Hopefully there will be an extraordinary, danceable eight-minute Stuart mix as well.

The EP features production credits from The Sound of Arrows, Monarchy, Bright Light Bright Light and Stuart Price, which is exciting.

However, with the exception of Monarchy, she hasn’t actually met any of them, opting to do it all online. “Do you know what? In the virtual world that we live in, I haven’t met The Sound of Arrows, I haven’t met Stuart Price,” she revealed to EQ. “Everything gets sent across, we do lots of things with Skype and things like that. I haven’t had the pleasure yet, but I’m looking forward to it.”

Confirmed songs on the EP, which doesn’t feature any “tearful ballads”, include ‘Neon’, ‘Freestyle’ and ‘Black Star’.

Some waffle about some awards whose shortlists are being announced this evening in the presence of Fearne Cotton and James [...]

Some waffle about some awards whose shortlists are being announced this evening in the presence of Fearne Cotton and James Corden:

British Male Solo Artist
Example would be a good person to be nominated for this, although he is an example of an indie label making a success out of an artist a major label couldn’t figure out so it might not be strictly ‘on message’ for the Brits, so Tinie Tempah is your man.

British Female Solo Artist
Does Florence count as a solo artist? We’ve lost track.

British Single Voted and supported by listeners of Capital Radio and users of iTunes
Pleasingly, as Radio 1 SMOTHER WITH LOVE the concept of ‘new music’, it falls to Capital Radio and users of iTunes to decide on the best single. This makes perfect sense, really – iTunes sell ‘loadsa’ singles, and Capital play them when they are hits.

British Breakthrough Act Voted and supported by Radio 1 listeners
Sadly for The Wanted, Radio 1 and not Capital are supporting this prize. We suppose this will go to Ellie Goulding, people seem to quite like her. She goes running you know. To keep fit. Running here and there, over yonder then back again. True story.

British Group
Fucking Mumford & Sons will no doubt be nominated here. Perhaps we should also be crossing our fingers for an N-Dubz inclusion. Perhaps not. The xx should probably be in this list.

Critics Choice In association with War Child
Despite the best efforts of music ‘biz’ tastemakey gatekeepers a guitarstep act has not won the Lady Singing In A Sort Of Alternative But Not Really That Alternative At All Sort Of Way award this year and Jessie J has stormed to victory. On one of the occasions when we wrote about Jessie last year we mentioned that Jessie reminded us of an artist whose name we would not reveal in case it scared people off a bit. We still do not feel that the time is right, but basically Jessie J is still amazing and her upcoming ‘tunes’ bear that out rather well.

MasterCard British Album of the Year Promoted by Daybreak and The Sun Bizarre column
We don’t know will win this but any album voted by followers of Daybreak and Bizarre has to be brilliant. Mind you, Buble does not qualify for this category and Kasabian haven’t had an album out, so it could be anything. (And by ‘anything’ we mean ‘Take That’.)

British Producer
Stuart Price ‘FTW’.

International Male Solo Artist
Eninem staged an impressive comeback and Michael Buble has charmed all ladies and most men but surely this is the time to shine for Mr JASON DERULO. Four amazing singles in one year and the most perfectly sculpted beard in pop.

International Female Solo Artist
We’re not being funny right but Lady Gaga would be quite a good winner for this one, we think, although her last album is probably not eligible so let’s just say that Robyn would not be the worst winner in the history of international female winners and Rihanna would also not be awful. Sia, Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj should be there too.

International Breakthrough Act Voted and supported by MTV
This would have to be Nadine Coyle whose excellent album ‘Insatiable’ redefined every single one of the myriad genres it explored. If not Nadine, Ke$ha.

International Album
We would like to see a nomination for Scissor Sisters here; Rihanna should also be in there. Robyn, Nicki and Music Go Music should be nominated as well.

International Group
LADY GAGA FEATURING BEYONCE.

The End.

Behold: the world’s greatest 12″ picture disc.

It arrived in the post yesterday. It’s got some Calvin Harris music inside its grooves but that’s not really the important factor here. What’s important is the presence of the monster who played the triangle in that Coke ad Calvin soundtracked a year or so ago.

Amazing.

Here are some other amazing 12″ picture discs we had in the office.

Aqua – ‘Aquarium’

This is what pop music looked like about 14 years ago. It seems to depict a double-penised Rene bumming two of his bandmates. If anyone could confirm or deny that this was what actually happened that would be great.

Dragonette – ‘I Get Around’

There’s certainly a lot of orange ‘getting around’ here.

Les Rythmes Digitales – ‘Darkdancer’

This was from before Stuart Price decided to storm the tower and take over pop music by force. The signs were there, though, even then. BY GOD THE SIGNS WERE THERE AND WE DID NOTHING.

Hurts – ‘Wonderful Life’

This Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize-nominated single wins the award for 12″ Picture Disc Of 2010.

Kylie – ‘Slow’

We’ve got quite a nice ‘I Believe In You’ picture disc as well but this one is the clear winner due to its diagonal black and white lines. Diagonal lines always work. (NB This is from the period when Kylie decided she was going to be French or something – the other side of the 12″ has a photo of a string of onions.) (It doesn’t really.) (Or does it?) (No it doesn’t.)

Take That – ‘Once You’ve Tasted Love’

We might stick this one on the wall later.

So there you have it. A roundup of some 12″ picture discs. What’s your favourite 12″ picture disc? Why don’t you take a photo and send it (THAT’S ENOUGH OF THAT THANKS – SPURIOUS READER INTERACTION ED)
