Having a chat with Gig City, the ‘Feliz Cumpleaños’ chanteuse was asked about the fact that ‘The Spirit Indestructible’ didn’t exactly set the charts alight, to which she replied:

“That’s the price you pay for being passionate about music and refusing to believe it’s your job all these years. It’s just still seeing it as a hobby. My poor manager. He’s suffered many grey hairs because of it. I’m just really hard headed and I just do what I want to do.”

“I’ve made my hobby into a career, but sometimes I still look at it as a hobby so I don’t always make the best quote unquote career choices,” she continued, probably in reference to ‘Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)’. “But I enjoy it every step of the way, which I think is the most important thing.”

Asked if she would think about taking it all a little more seriously in the future, she said: ”I think I will become more stylistically unified in the future. I see more music that is sophisticated and mature and adult, and also more streamlined.”

Something like ‘Maneater’ would be nice.

“I’ve already started recording my Spanish follow up and my English follow up,” the ‘Bajo Otra Luz’ hitmaker said in an interview you can read right here.

“I’m still feeding off the creative adrenaline from ‘The Spirit Indestructible’. No more long breaks,” she threatened.

We’d rather you ‘feed off the creative adrenaline’ from ‘Loose’, but we suppose in this world you can’t have everything can you.

The ‘Shit On The Radio (Remember The Days)’ songstress chatted about her latest opus recently, saying: “I have very few albums that debut high. I’ve had kind of everything happen to me commercially and at different levels.”

“I’ve had different scenes and I’ve dabbled in a lot of markets so I see the music world as very global,” she went on to note. “I’m always looking for new avenues and opportunities, so one chart or anything doesn’t necessarily [mean everything].”

But fear not! Despite the underwhelming success of the album, Nelly is still keen on performing songs from ‘The Spirit Indestructible’.

“We’ll see what happens and just keep on chugging along with these songs because musically I can’t wait to perform them live. That’s my main goal.”

The Killers’ ‘Battle Born’, meanwhile, sold 94,000 copies to beat P’!'nk’s ‘The Truth About Love’ to the top of the album charts, where there are also new entries for Michael Jackson’s ‘Bad 25′ at Number 6 and Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Kiss’ at Number 9. Nelly Furtado’s ‘The Spirit Indestructible’ is new at Number 46 :(

Back on the singles chart, Example’s ‘Say Nothing’ is new at Number 2, while ‘Gangnam Style’ by PSY is up thirty-four places to Number 3 (we imagine it will be Number One next week to be honest).

Outside the Top Ten is poor old Dappy who has to make do with a Number 12 ‘smash’ with ‘Bad Intentions’ (the third single in a row by a member of N-Dubz to miss out on the Top Ten, ‘FYI’).

In an interview with the Vancouver Sun the ‘Feliz Cumpleaños’ chanteuse said: “Writing a hit record’s the monkey on your back that you fight against. Nothing kills the spirit as quickly.”

“I put pressure on myself to be musically fresh, which is different from being trendy or being current. I like a fusion of sounds, just as long as it’s funky.”

So do we Nelly, so do we.

Just to make the point again, she added: “What I’m saying is that I tried on the pop hat for awhile and it was fun, but I’m ready to try new things.”

Oh well.

In a fairly hilarious interview with BBC Breakfast in which she barely pauses for breath, she was asked about her new album ‘The Spirit Indestructible’ and how she felt she’d changed since her first album.

“Now I feel like I fit in a little bit better,” she explained. “When I started out my music was quite eclectic and quite worldly and it had a lot of Brazilian influences and East Indian influences and at the time music wasn’t so open-minded as it is now. I feel like there’s more fusion nowadays. This new album is a little bit like my first album and that true eclecticism shines through.”

(We’d sort of prefer it if it sounded like ‘Loose’ but what can you do.)

She also (sort of) clarified why she referred to the album as being like a “friendly punch in the face”.

“It’s a friendly punch in the face because a lot of the messages are super positive and there’s songs about love and hope and inspiration. There’s a song called ‘Miracles’ about just getting swept away in positivity.”

According to E! Online, Furtado’s appearance will ‘air’ in November and will involve her singing a song at some point.

It’s not been announced what the song will be, but it’s a pretty safe bet it will be something from her new album ‘The Spirit Indestructible’.

Furtado joins Carly Rae Jepsen as a guest star on the show’s fifth ‘season’.
