Melanie used to be known as Mel and was a member of a girl group you may have heard of called the Spice Girls.
Her 'Spice' name was 'Sporty' because she was particularly into ponytails, trainers and sports clothing.
After the Spice Girls called it a day for the first time, Mel(anie) released her debut solo album 'Northern Star'. It 'spawned' two Number One singles and went triple platinum.
Her second album 'Reason' didn't fare so well which resulted in her splitting from Virgin Records and launching her own label, Red Girl Records.
She joined the rest of the Spice Girls for a reunion tour and Greatest Hits album in late 2007, before they decided to go their separate ways, again.
The first single from her fifth album, 'The Sea', was used as the official theme for the 2011 Women's World Cup and the second, entitled 'Think About It', is actually really good.
