“Maybe I’m not specific with names, but that’s my lockbox where all my secrets go,” she explained.

“Writing is like therapy. [My songs] stem from the truth inside of me. I just want songs to be relatable, and to be adopted as someone else’s soundtrack.”

Katy has previously said that she’s about half way done recording with the likes of Dr Luke, Max Martin, Greg Wells, Sia, Greg Kurstin, and Bonnie McKee, so this record is likely to be quite good, isn’t it.

Katy Perry’s about halfway done on her third album and has been working on it with Dr Luke, Max Martin, Greg Wells, Sia, Greg Kurstin and Bonnie McKee.

Not a bad list of popmakers.

Apparently one of the songs recorded for the album is called ‘Double Rainbow’ and was inspired by McKee: “She came in from a yoga class and said, ‘I want to write a song called ‘Double Rainbow.’ So we have a song called ‘Double Rainbow.’”

She also revealed during some chat thing at ASCAP’s I Create Music Expo (as quoted here), that there’s no pressure to get the album finished. Well, not yet anyway.

“When I put myself on a timeline, when I tell the record company when I want to release the album, that’s when the race starts,” she mused. “That’s when I put pressure on myself.”

It would be nice if there was a single in the summer then maybe an album around September time, though.

Who would have guessed that Avril Lavigne would deliver one of the 2013′s most incredible choruses? Yet here we are, [...]

Who would have guessed that Avril Lavigne would deliver one of the 2013′s most incredible choruses?

Yet here we are, with ‘Here’s To Never Growing Up’, which has just appeared in full.

We were big fans of the songtitle as soon as we first saw the single artwork. Artists like Avril Lavigne are often stuck in pop’s perpetual teenager role and ‘Here’s To Never Growing Up’ felt like a slightly meta joke regarding Lavigne, as a singer, giving up on any attempt to mature as an artist.

We love it even more now we’ve heard the song, which is not exactly light on the tune front.

And then, of course, there’s the Radiohead lyric.

“Singing Radiohead at the top of our lungs, with the boombox blaring as we’re falling in love.”

What a line.

It’s interesting how that part of the song was deliberately cut from the brief video teaser Lavigne released earlier today, as if she and her label knew all too well that this lyric was something worth holding back for the proper premiere, which eventually took place on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show.

It was a surprise worth keeping. It’s fascinating how, through the pop of the 2010s, Radiohead’s music has become a key signifier for a certain era in early-2000s US teenagerdom. Avril and Katy Perry were both about 16 when Radiohead exploded in America. Do you think Radiohead made more of an impression on teen culture on the other side of the Atlantic than they did on adolescents here in the UK? Actually do you know what, who cares, we’re here to talk about AVRIL LAVIGNE’S AMAZING NEW SINGLE not Laughing Boy Yorke. It’s a song about staying young forever, which isn’t the sort of thing you really think about when you’re actually young. It’s the sort of thing you only really think about once it’s too late; when you are, in fact, getting quite old.

So really it’s a song that’s more about growing up than it would like to admit. As the title and artwork initially suggested, it’s a song about being trapped in body and psyche of a teenager long after your friends and peers grew up and moved on. Some listeners will probably misinterpret ‘Here’s To Never Growing Up’ as a teenager’s song but ‘Here’s To Never Growing’ up is so brilliantly tragic because it is sung by someone who missed their opportunity to grow up, or wasn’t allowed to. Worst of all, they know it, and really they hate the life they still lead. “We’ll be running down the street yelling ‘kiss my ass’, I’m like ‘yeah, whatever, we’re still living like that’.” Still living like that? Fantastically dismal.

Here’s the song in question. What a cracker.

Apparently Chad Kroeger has a co-writing credit on ‘Here’s To Never Growing Up’. We’re not really sure what to do with this information, but it’s good, at least, to know that he has finally chosen to use his powers for good.

According to The Sun, the ‘My Own Monster’ chanteuse has signed a deal to write the book equivalent to last year’s biopic Katy Perry: Part of Me.

A ‘source’ explained: ”Several publishers have been after Katy for a while. She decided to go ahead so fans don’t have a one-sided story when Russell publishes another Booky Wook.”

We assume that Katy Perry is writing this book just for the ‘fans’ and not the £2m The Sun claim she’ll receive for writing it.

Either way it should make for a good read.

“‘Hold It Against Me’ was a happy accident,” she begins. “It was actually inspired by Katy because I was writing with her at the time and I went in the other room where I was working on Britney in between. She came into the room in some tight, sexy little dress and I jokingly said, ‘Damn, Katy if I told you you had a nice body would you hold it against me?’ I was like, ‘Bingo!’ and I wrote that song.”

Bingo! indeed.

But what goes into a Britney song then Bonnie?

“Britney Spears is just all sex, all day. It’s like, how many sexual innuendos can I come up with?”

Speaking about her own music, ‘Bonno’ promised “big pop songs, radio stuff. Very ‘80s influenced, kind of nostalgic. Big vocals. I like big, soaring melodies and fun, splashy lyrics. Maybe like what Blondie would do in 2013″.

She’s also been working with Max Martin and Dr Luke, so this all sounds very promising doesn’t it readers?

Adele’s passable Bond anthem, ‘Skyfall’, is up for consideration. If nominated, it’d be the first Bond theme to be given the nod in 31 years.

Other popstars on the list include Katy Perry – for the appearance of ‘Wide Awake’ in Katy Perry: Part Of Me which is sort of cheating – and Florence ‘+’ The Machine for the use of ‘Breath Of Life’ in Snow White And The Huntsman.

The seven-minute version of the Floria Sigismondi-directed ‘mini movie’ now features some extra footage at the beginning and at the end, which is nice if you like that sort of thing.

Why not watch it below:

Could this mean that – after 28 years – the ‘Teenage Dream’ campaign is finally over?

Anyway Katy is apparently working with very amazing pop scribes Greg Wells and Bonnie McKee for the upcoming opus, which is good news all round.

That’s pretty much it.
