Goldfrapp are Alison Goldfrapp (hence the name etc etc) and Will Gregory.
Following in the tradition of other great British duos like Erasure and the Pet Shop Boys, they make amazing synth-pop music.
They also make folky stuff that people pretend to like more than they actually do (but which is still pretty listenable in the grand scheme of things).
Their single 'Ooh La La' incorporated guitar riffs inspired by Norman Greenbaum's 1969 glam rock track 'Spirit In The Sky'. You know, the one Gareth Gates and the Kumars did a cover of.
The video for 'Ride A White Horse' sees Alison pulling a large plastic dog behind her.
For their fourth album 'Seventh Tree', lead single 'A&E' was apparently influenced by a hospital visit in which doctors pumped Alison full of painkillers. Which was nice.
Returning to their synth-pop roots for album number five, Goldfrapp's single 'Rocket' was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. However, it lost out to Rihanna's 'Only Girl (In The World)'. Fair enough really.
