Harris’ slow-burn success ’18 Months’ album and Sandé’s cruelly-ignored ‘Our Version Of Events’ are both competing for the £20,000 prize alongside Popjustice favourites Django Django and Konrad Wiszniewski & Euan Stevenson.

Apparently on May 27 the longlist of twenty albums will be whittled down to ten by a mixture of public vote and a panel of judges, before the winner is announced on June 20.

So there we have it.

The ‘Suitcase’ chanteuse spoke to – BRACE YOURSELVES – the Daily Star Playlist about the franchise, noting: “I find it quite depressing. I find it sad that four people are judging these people and really knocking their confidence.”

“I don’t think I would have considered appearing on The X Factor [unless she's promoting her new single or giving a song to an X Factor contestant],” Sandé banged on. “I would have been able to sing but I don’t like the fact that nobody creates on the show. Writing needs to be encouraged.”

Oh here we go.

“Finding an entry into the business isn’t easy so I understand why people do it. You can tell when people want to be musicians or want to be famous. The kids who need music in their lives should just focus on their craft.”

‘Domino’ beat off Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, while overlooked songstress Emeli Sandé was at Number 3 with ‘Next To Me’.

But what does Jonathan Morrish from PPL think about it all?

“The top 10 most-played pop songs is always an impressive insight into what the nation has been listening to the previous year. These songs will undoubtedly stay with us for a long time.”

That’s quite a thought.

Launched last month, 02 Tracks delivers the Top 40 chart direct to your phone, which seems like quite a nice idea.

Luckily, Sandé’s a really big fan of it.

“As a songwriter and music fan I’m always keen to find out what’s made the Top 40 every week,” she told a press release (as quoted here).

“Never has there been such a diverse time for music and O2 Tracks is fantastic because it means I don’t have to do anything to keep up. All the latest entries are there on my phone so I can listen to them wherever I go. It’s a great way to discover new music!”

(And keep an eye on the chart placings for the twenty-five singles she has on sale at any one time.)

It’s not clear exactly what Sando will be doing, but we imagine she’ll appear in some TV adverts, so it will be nice to see her there for a change.

The single sold 113,000 copies to become the band’s third UK Number One single in 18 months.

Other acts getting a boost from the Brits include Resting Actor Justin Timberlake whose single ‘Mirrors’ climbs 24 places to Number 4, while ‘Suit & Tie’ climbs back up to Number 14.

Taylor Swift’s ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ climbs six places to Number 6 and your friend and ours ‘Ben Howard’ is a re-entry at Number 9 with ‘Only Love’.

There are also new entries for Olly Murs at Number 23 and Tyler James at Number 38.

On the album chart, Emeli Sandé – OF COURSE – returns to the top spot with ‘Our Version Of Events’. The album’s now spent a total of nine non-consecuative weeks at the ‘summit’.

The Brits also helped albums by ‘Ben Howard’, Taylor Swift, Mumford & Sons and Paloma Faith, who all climb in the Top Ten.

Sandé finally got some long overdue recognition, winning Best Female and Best Album, while Howard won Best Breakthrough and Best Male.

Elsewhere, Adele won Best Single for ‘Skyfall’, One Direction won a made up Global Success thing, Authentic Chanteuse Lana Del Rey won Best International Female and rock titans Mumford & Sons ‘scooped’ Best British Group.

“Emeli will probably win,” she told – YOU KNOW IT – the Daily Star Playlist. “She’s had so much exposure and that helps.”

The pair are both up for Best Album and Best British Female.

“She’s consistent and always delivers a good vocal performance,” the ‘It’s Christmas (And I Hate You)’ chanteuse continued.

You never know, Paloma might win both.

(She won’t).

“I feel like it’s a bit unfair,” she said to The Sun. “I actually haven’t done that much, but it’s just what I have done have been huge events.”

And the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards.

“If I was at the Mobos, it was because I was nominated, or if I performed at something, it’s because I was asked. It’s not like I was forcing myself on anyone,” she continued.

“Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I worked so hard to get any exposure at all, so I don’t see that as a negative.”

She also feels like she deserves to be on every TV show going given the fact that it’s taken her a little while to be noticed in the first place.

“People who were critical of that weren’t there when you’re working your arse off trying to get a record, and when you’re trying to get someone to listen. They don’t know how that feels,” she raged.

She also hinted at the fact she might calm her schedule down at some point: “So I take it as a positive. It’s all about getting your music out there, and who knows, I might not get that kind of exposure next year, or ever. I’m happy.”
