Beyoncé was crowned best female R&B artist, while her husband Jay-Z and Kanye West ‘scooped’ best group (for this Throne business) and best video for ‘Otis’.

Changed Man Chris Brown was ‘honoured’ as the best male R&B artist, with Nicki Minaj given some kind of bookend for being the best female hip-hop artist.

Performers on the night included Brandy and Monica who paid tribute to the late Whitney Houston.

Mrs Knowles-Z appears in all of the major categories, including Best Female RnB Artist and Best Collaboration. Two of her songs – ‘Countdown’ and ‘Love On Top’ – are included in the Video Of The Year category.

Overall, she is nominated for six honours, more than any other performer. Alright, alright, so Kanye has seven but five of those are for The Throne so that really means 2.5.

‘Repping’ Britain in the Best International Act: UK category are Estelle, Labrinth, Emeli Sandé, Sway and Wretch 32.

The BET Awards will air on July 1, hosted by Samuel L Jackson and features performances from serial award show botherers Nicki Minaj and Changed Man Chris Brown.

Talking on Alex James’ (not that one) radio show InDemand (as reported here), she said that it was “really kind” of Rihanna to record an awful duet with him, adding: “She’s come out and publicly forgiven him really. I think it’s about time we all did if I’m completely honest, if you want my opinion.”

For Cheryl, it’s obvious that the pressures of fame have added to the fact that people can’t forgive: “I think because he’s in the limelight…He hasn’t had the chance to be forgiven or to forgive himself because we haven’t let him.”

That “we” bit sticks in the throat a bit doesn’t it?

“Now that she’s [Rihanna] come out and embraced him again, I think it’s time we all moved on. That guy is talented as hell,” she continued.

It is certainly useful to know that how talented someone is dictates how long it takes to forgive them for assaulting women.

A tour isn’t the only collaboration on the cards. The ‘Wet The Bed’ hitmaker is apparently tripping over himself to record with the group. Raconteur Max revealed: “[Chris] came in and saw us at the studio when we were rehearsing – and he was actually really sound. He’d spoke to Scooter since then and said he’d love to do a song with us so who knows. If it’s the right song then we’ll do it.”

The free Rockefeller Plaza gigs will be broadcast online for the first time, with the time difference meaning you’ll be able to watch them on your lunchbreak.

Usher will kick off the series on May 18 followed by treasure chest pirate Pitbull on May 25 and whoever wins America Idol playing the following week.

Changed Man Chris Brown will perform on June 8, with Justin Bieber (June 15), Maroon 5 (June 29) and Flo Rida (July 6) also booked in for ‘gigs’.
