“I’ve also done a song with Richard X for the new Annie EP or album,” she mused to The 405 (it’s an EP), after also confirming she’s been working with A*M*E.

“It sounds much better with her singing it than me,” Hesko said of the Annie song.

This is all very well Victoria, but what is the ditty called?

“Oh, god, I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about it. Well, no, I guess, why not! I used to be so safe in interviews, I don’t care anymore. I’d rather be controversial than boring. Ummm…It’s called ‘Bring It Back Together’ and it’s really good!”

Asked if it was coming out soon, she said the following: “Well, apparently. But, then again, I’ve been hearing that an Annie album was going to be coming out maybe longer than my album, but I hope that it does because it sounds wicked. I was really impressed.”

‘Wicked’.

According to Google Translate, the single’s called ‘Tubestops And Lonely Hearts’ and will be out at some point this month.

It’s described as a “song for the dancefloor” and “is inspired by the rave scene in Bergen”.

This is potentially exciting.

There’s always huge gaps of time between Annie releasing music, but it’s a lot harder to feel okay about that when I don’t see her posting Facebook status updates like, “In the studio with Timo…” or even just “Going for a bike ride…” (Almost all Annie sentences end with ellipses). The world (and by ‘world’, I mean ‘I’) just needs to know that she is still kicking about in Berlin or Bergen or London and her participation in The Twitter is a bit inconsistent.

So, I thought that since you are someone who cares about Annie’s musical future and you’re in the fortunate position of having a better chance of music types paying attention to you when you ask questions, you could take it upon yourself to check up on Annie every now and then. Just a bit of a, “Hello, Annie, how are you? How about a quick chat about music?” once in a while.

I would greatly appreciate it. We can’t let her disappear.

Answering a question from us earlier on Twitter about how her new material compares to that of the Pet Shop Boys, the ‘My Love Is Better (demo) feat Girls Aloud’ chanteuse said the five songs on the first EP (there are meant to be three on the way) are “a bit more aggressive” and “not so dreamy”.

But if you’re a fan of “feelings” then rejoice as she added: “but still, lots of ‘feelings’ & u can dance to it!”

HURRAH.

“Yes I have,” she confirmed when we asked her about when she had heard them. “But I’m not telling anyone about them, it’s top secret.”

When asked how amazing the songs were on a scale of 9 – 10, she added: “I’m not saying, sorry.”

Incredible.

Asked who else popped by Xenomania towers, she said: ”Annie was there! I love Annie, she’a always there. She’s always writing melodies and lyrics for me.”

Amazing. Who else?

“Florrie’s always there. They’re great them two. They always make vegetable drinks in the blender, which is better than drinking sugary drinks that’s for sure. I mean, I don’t actually like them but they’ve got me into them because they’re so healthy and they’re growing on me.”

When pressed to reveal the ingredients of these smoothies, Amelia added: ”There’s apples, carrots, beetroot, ginger, celery… I wanted to try them and they got me into them and I’m happy they did to be honest because they’re so good for you.”

So there you go. Not much info on Girls Aloud, but quite a lot regarding celery.

2012 is shaping up to be a bit of a weird pop year, isn’t it? Of the crop of globe-straddling female popstars that became synonymous with chart domination in 2011 – Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Rihanna -  all seem to be reaching the end of their album campaigns, or have already packed their bags for a lengthy break (Britney). Adele, who doesn’t really seem to do much but is still completely ubiquitous, doesn’t really count. She’ll end up with the year’s biggest selling album again with the unkillable ’21′ even though we’ve probably heard the last of her for some time.

We’re also in a bit of a pop Twilight Zone: a Madonna comeback single stalled Number 37. ‘Girl Gone Wild’ is shaping up to do even worse. The new Gossip single – wont, as they are, to singing a shouty racket from time to time – is virtually a ballad. Forest-dwelling mystery-monger iamamiwhoami has relocated to ‘the city’ and is releasing a Proper Album. Boybands One Direction and The Wanted have, unexpectedly, taken over the US. Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj seems hellbent on bellow-growling her career into an early grave by releasing a steady stream of awful music. Dreadful girlband Stooshe scored a Top 10. Disco-til-she-dies diva Kylie Minogue is releasing orchestral (ABORT MISSION) versions of her hits as a way of celebrating her 25th year in music, ie she’s doing the exact opposite of everything she’s done for the last 25 years. The new Ke$ha album is rumoured to have been ‘overseen’ by, of all people, THE FLAMING LIPS. You’d be forgiven for being a bit confused by the whole thing.

Amid the chaos, there is some sort of order emerging. The unstoppable wall of identikit club-ready ‘anthems’ seems at last to be crumbling more and more each week. As does heavy-handed use of dubstep gloomwobbles: just as the American public seems to be properly embracing it in its more ‘pure’ form – awarding Skrillex three Grammys – the shoehorned-in dubstep breakdown in pop songs like ‘Hold it Against Me’ and ‘You Da One’ is already feeling ‘old hat’. So much so that even Madonna started doing it.

For the time being, we’ll probably get an influx of ‘new’ Ed Sheerans and Emeli Sandés and delicate, female-fronted cover versions made for tea adverts, but this will be good in the long run. Pop has been far too predictable and stagnant for the last two years. For the first time in about 24 months (it’s felt like a hundred fucking years mind you), it seems like the music scene is finally ready to be injected with something really exhilarating and new…Whatever that might be. Which is, ultimately, what makes pop so exciting.

The rumours started after ‘Dominic Spez’ posted a thing on the Popjustice forum – which was then written up into another thing - stating that Annie will be releasing a new EP “soon”, with another two to follow before the end of 2012.

About five minutes ago Annie tweeted a link to the feature, before confirming it properly with a single, brilliant tweet.

The EP will feature production from Richard X, Fred Falke and Donnie Sloan as well as a duet with Florrie.
