The salient points

• When Adele was young she used to impersonate the Spice Girls at dinner parties and cites their music as one of the reasons why she became a singer. Ergo, Victoria Beckham has a direct hand in the saving of the record industry.


• Adele's first album '19' was quite boo-hoo, but not nearly as much as what was to come. This was rather lovely.


• Brilliantly, she once cancelled a US tour because she wanted to be with her boyfriend. This didn't please the Americans that much.


• Mind you, that all changed when she won two Grammys in 2009.


• Her second album '21' (which features solid-gold blubathon 'Someone Like You') was released in early 2011 and has since sold 250 million copies or something ridiculous. It's spent about seventeen years in the Top Ten in nearly every country, its success enough to make time itself almost irrelevant.
