I am not surprised, but... let's face it, things went south very quickly after "Real Girl" went in at #2. The album is not terrible- it is not good, but that does not really mean it could not have met with commercial success. There are a thousand ways this could have gone better than it did. I just don't know what Mutya did to precipitate this failure and what the record company did.

Pity, too, as "Fast Car" is A++++++ amazing. There is talent there. Who knows what is being done with it? NOT I.

I agree that there's talent there, but can she really be bothered? Maybe she's just been stuck in an uncreative enviroment for too long.

And with PopJustice for not building "Song 4 Mutya" up enough earlier in 2007.

I hope that was sarcastic! pj is the least deserving of any blame. pj was entirely in mutya's corner at the beginning...but i guess they were the only ones.

I just never got the sense that Mutya really liked any of her own material, and if she didn't like it, why in the world should we? I really can't say I'm surprised by this.

I wouldn't write Mutya off, not yet.  She could make a career out of collaborating with every dance act on the planet and touring with them thereby getting to indulge in her favourite past-time that is clubbing.
Well she's going to have "featuring Dannii Minogue" to deal with if that's the case.

Has Siobhan still got her contract?

Yes, she's working with some dance producers currently and she's allegedly hoping to have something out by autumn.

Excitment!!!

The only good thing in this thread is the news about Siobhan's work with dance producers on her third album. Mutya should be a stay-at-home-ex-sugababe-failed-solo-singer, even though she has the voice to make it big, she just seems bored with it all.

The thing with Mutya is she has so much of an expressionless face you wouldn't be able to tell if she was highly delighted with it anyway

I'll be the first in line for that album! Cough..

First I'd like to note that 'not attending gigs' is a slight exaggeration - the only gig she didn't attend was a club in Belfast, allegedly she had a throat infection, but she was spotted talking about going out the same night on myspace. Ooh naughty!

As for the Real Girl project, it seems to me Island wanted her to flop. (as inadequate as it may sound) It was all good, Real Girl went to number 2, the album was selling well, and then instead of releasing Strung Out (like it was initially planned) with a nice video & decent single formats they thought it would be a good idea to save some money from video budgets and single formats and release an 'album track'-type of song instead (JALB). MAJOR mistake.. then the whole scenario repeated with the release of B Boy Baby, but this time I assume they didn't want to fork in any money because of the previous flop. If they'd released Strung Out, I don't think she would have been dropped at all..

Why would a record label put money into packaging up & getting together an album for them to want it to flop?

That makes no sense to me

Yeah I believe you definitely.

I just can't see how their motivation would be to want it to flop

It could just be me being paranoid, but I think there something's went on behind the scenes which we don't know about.. and we probably never will.

Mutya is very talented, im seriously gutted for her. She does appreciate her fans and she shows that appreciation by mailing them back etc!

About the clubbing instead of gigging she had a "throat infection"

Its strange that Siobhan still has a record deal when over her 2 albums she has sold about 25k whereas real girl sold over 100k!I know they are on different labls but surely if someone is selling so little what return are the company getting back? I must admit i love Sobhan's albums but if she can remain signed Mutya  has ever chance to get signed again and she will get signed again if its what she wants to do!

I cant answer the stuff about her not being bothered because im not her, but she is very laid back and people mistake for laziness.

Mutya rules and i wish her every bit of luck in the future!
