I don't really listen to much else APART from men, so if I nip quickly over to itunes I see I have been listening to Keane, George Michael (the new song!! 11pm channel 4! Outside mkII!), NATE JAMES (www.natejames.com) he's not really urban, promise. Will Young and Take That...

I think we could use some nice shiny new male artists, pleased though I am with the current 'crop' - someone please sign tyler james :( please :( and Justin's album had better be good, I had high hopes of Robin Thicke's v. long awaited second album being amazing but it hasn't materialised :(

NATE JAMES

From what I have heard of his second album he actually sounds really good. Didn't really like the 1st album.

Aww I thought Nates album was good. Was annoyed that Tyler didn't do as well as he could have. I adored every song I heard of his, especially Foolish, Your Woman, Drunk all Night and Procrastination. I saw him at Mcfly and nobody seemed to know/care :(.

We have James blunt, too....or is everyone just choosing to ignore him? Good idea. Robbie and Will are the 2 'main' ones I think. Wills on his 3rd album and thats done well, and Robbies on his..4935. James' second could hopfully flop then he won't be around for much longer...or he might just stay over in America!

How about Ronan Keating?   He is still releasing records.   Simon Webbe, Lee Ryan, Duncan James and (possibly) Anthony Costa are still around, especially Simon.

Fergie from Black Eyed Peas.

I 'laughed out loud' on that one. Although, I think her single 'London Bridge' might be good from what I hear.

Justin Timberlake is making his comeback this year and i actually cannot wait!

Then there's Robbie and of course, our very own Matt Willis. Really want Tyler James to come back because he was a dude!

I think JC had is soon to be single on his myspace page or something a few weeks ago...I know I heard it somewhere. It was a ballad...not bad for a slightly sappy ballad. Better than Nick Lachey.

JC said in an interview last week that the first single from his album is going to be an upbeat song, and that he and Justin worked on it together. It's supposed to be available for airplay in the US in August, so hopefully a preview of it will be on his myspace soon.

I really don't like any of these, sorry, just makes male pop seem a bit... flaccid?

Loving JC though, he should've recorded more songs similar to All Day I Dream About Sex.
And Darren rules - He should've recorded more songs in the vein of Pop!Ular.
(Can you tell my music tastes yet?)

Tiga rules as well, though he goes more into the electro/house category and as such is a little more 'faceless' simply because of the scenes. My favourite electro-ballad of the year? "Far from Home" album version by Tiga himself.
Sexy bloke too.

Am I the only one who thinks "I could do this all so much better myself"?
Or is it just me being an egotistical git?

I can't believe no one's mentioned James Morrison, i think he's going to be the next big UK male singer, he doesn't appeal to me like Will Young does, but I think he's the next "James Blunt", only less boring and with a better voice and songs. Only trouble is, he'll probably be overplayed, over hyped and become as annoying as Blunt became to me.

I might be driven off PJ for this, but Clay Aiken. His album is supposed to  have some surprises, out this fall, I think. He doesn't write songs, so I think he could serve well to interpret some songs by great songwriters...like Rachel Stevens, but with a better voice (and I like Rachel's vocals, though they're not impressive). He's only known in America and some Asian countries, so it wouldn't happen, especially since his record label seems to have a lack of imagination to the point where Clive Davis wants the album to be a majority of cover songs, presumably because they can't find enough good pop songs written for male voices, but i'd tell them to go over to the UK for that. It's a guaranteed platinum seller in the States no matter what it is, so they might as well take some risks, but probably not. Judging by Nick Lachey's album, I see the point, but it's pathetic that there seem to be enough catchy pop tracks for virtually every new female singer coming out (even Paris Hilton) to grab one or more when the guys can't get a look in. Besides Justin Timberlake (and i'm not sure how 'urban' his album will be), it's slim pickings. Ne-Yo does have a few StarGate productions on his album, I guess. Tyler James' album was also good, is he still signed? I like Lee Ryan as well, but his last album wasn't exactly poptastic, though I enjoy it, it didn't bring pop back. Matt Willis gives me some hope in that regard.

The more current and innovative-type pop producers don't seem to work with male artists as much. Xenomania did a handful of songs for Abs and V, and that's pretty much all I can remember...I can't think of anything Richard X has done for male artists. The best of the former's efforts for the guys stand up to what they've done with female artists and groups in my eyes, but they don't seem to catch on to the public to the same degree. I do think it's partly due to what seems to be a double standard in the music industry...a woman can get on stage, sing a catchy song and nobody thinks anything of it, but a man has to write songs/play an instrument to be given any respect whatsoever. I can't see a boy getting the same amount of 'underground indie cred' people like Girls Aloud and have recieved in American blog circles, for example. GA are admittedly a personable, pretty and talented (my opinion, at least) front for Brian Higgins' productions, as much as I love them, and I couldn't see as many people looking past that if it was a boy band or a solo male artist in their place and just appreciating the great songs.
