What's the new Pet Shop Boys single like, then?
Story filed Wednesday, 24 September 2008

The Pet Shop Boys and Sam Taylor-Wood have got a new single coming out. It is their third song together - they did a cover of 'Je T'aime' then they did a cover of 'Love To Love You Baby', but they weren't released properly and just came out stuck on the cover of posho 'art' books or given away at parties on 'limited edition 12"' and so on. This one's actually coming out on actual VARIOUS FORMATS.

The sleeve's not up to much, but what's the song like? Well the song's a lot like this...

...because it's a cover of that song. For this single Sam Taylor-Wood has decided to sound like Debbie Harry and the PSB prodution sounds very 'Behaviour'-era with the sort of warmth of 'I Don't Know What You Want But I Can't Give It Any More' and 'Miserablism', but it also sounds like a lot of the atmospheric moments from the 'Closer To Heaven' cast recording.

Most importantly the extended mix has a brilliant bit in the middle where the whole track gives way to a filthy acid house squelchathon.

Here are the formats and mixes if you're into that sort of thing...

7":
Original Radio edit 3:47
Mark Reeder's Rundfunk remix 3:39

12”:
Gui Boratto mix 7:29

Jürgen Paape mix 5:09
