Stan

A ‘stan’ is a mental fool. The name comes from the fact that they are a ‘stalker/fan’, and from the lead character in Eminem’s anthem of foolmentalness, ‘Stan’ (hence the name). 78% of people who use the term ‘stan’ are in fact stans themselves, but if you suggest that perhaps their own fandom has teetered over the edge into mental illness they will simply tell you that they are entitled to their opinion before identifying an artist you deem to be listenable, picking one of their songs, and substituting one word in its title for the word ‘flop’. “I see the point you’re making, but I think you may be mistaken on this occasion.” “OMG I’m just expressing MY OPINION, stop stanning for MARIAH!! All I Want For Christmas Flop You HAHAHAHA”. And so on, and on, and on, until one day many years from now someone will simply pull the plug out of the internet and everyone will have to go and play tennis instead.
