We’ve disabled the smilies on the PJ Talk boards. This is for a reason – so posts containing comments like ‘Insert sad smiley here’ will be deleted.
    so what IS the reason?

  3. #3
Because they're annoying and don't encourage discussion or enliven a topic in any way whatsoever? That's my theory.

but we could have themed ones!

in a mood? - angry cheryl tweedy

    happy? - emma bunton

    drunk? - charlotte church

and the rest of the internet seems to cope with them well enough...

or you could just write "I feel like an angry Cheryl Tweedy"
    or
"I feel like a happy Emma Bunton."

Words are so great humanity has coped without smileys for centuries...

    I'm so confused!

but I'm glad that they deleted that thread
so many pages were taken up by people's personal conversations

and although most of it was Girls Aloud related
that's how it ended up being 70 something fucking pages long

I NEED to hear this album, what's the hold up....

All the word macros are starting to get both annoying and confusing.

Why can't mods warn and/or just delete 'bad' posts instead.

Well how am I supposed to know what, say, 'TLK' might be in a thread about The Loving Kind

"I really like I haven't read the rules, particularly the one about abbreviations, it's my favourite song" is a lot less confusing to read for everyone, it really clears things up

    THANK YOU!

I don't see how having 'I haven't read the rules, particularly the one about abbreviations' and 'i laugh at loud at this because it's hilarious' everywhere is IMPROVING the look of the board? Aren't the abbreviations far less intrusive?? And besides this board didnt really have a problem with everyone saying L O L etc did it?

The autoreplace is annoying, but not yet quite as annoying as lazy and incomprehensible posts. When they get as annoying or more annoying, I'll change them to something else.

  16. #16
Could you autoreplace the word 'amazing' because I use it way too much and would like to train my brain to use it less?

  17. #17
I think the point of the weird sentences replacing abbreviations and such is so that the poster might actually NOTICE that what they've written has turned out as gibberish and maybe, I don't know, EDIT it to make sense. But most have failed to do so, it would seem. Then there's the 'learn from your mistakes' aspect too - "Oh, wait, last time I typed this it was changed to something silly, I'll try using an alternative expression or type the full title". We can but hope.
I'm a good girl but I can be bad.

Slightly better solution would be to block such messages from being posted until they are fixed. Some people just do not get the replacements or (most likely) never read what they wrote.

Perhaps the replacements could be made to appear in bright red, or something?

I thought they split up in the early nineties?

  22. #22
The replacements are already gone right?
Also, is it just my computer or is the first post completely messed up with things like "Don’t use textspeak"?

Doesn't really make for an easy read this way.

Posts from back in the day seem to have gone all weird like that.

    I don't think I have either. Let's have a party.
