With Cheryl's album performing so poorly I don't think we are guaranteed big sales for another Girls Aloud album whether it be a greatest hits or studio album.

Just imagine if they had released group albums in 2009 and 2010 when Cheryl was still in the X Factor, they would have been pretty big, those days are now over though.

But you have Sarah banging on about releasing solo material next year. (I suppose if it's all done, she can release in between the alleged reunion tour and new material GA album.)
I do think the length of how long GA is officially back depends on their reception in November.

I really wonder what they'll come back with.. their more adventurous 'fan favourite' singles weren't usually their biggest hits, and I suppose they want to both please the fans ánd have a big comeback smash.. Quite a challenge to get the right song for that.

To be fair, 'The Promise' did a brilliant job of pleasing their fanbase whilst catering to the general public. I'd agree it probably falls short of most fans' Top 5 but 'Somethin Kinda Oooh' and 'Love Machine' exemplify a perfect balance of the two I'd argue.

I just heard the Digital Dog remix of Kimberley's top 10 smash today:

Isn't possible though that without the Xfactor exposure Cheryl just isn't as popular as the sales of her first two collections of 2 single and a load of demos would suggest?

You could argue the same because Nicola and Nadine had poor sales as well, but its a proven fact, if you go through pop history, very rarely to people from pop bands go on to have huge sales.

And when the bands get back together they have the back catalogue, the history and the fan base to back it up. Take That, Steps etc all had dire solo sales in comparison but came back and sold out arenas and a load of CD's.

Cheryl is also releasing off the back of an album that was hardly well received critically. I can imagine many casual buyers feeling burnt at the lack of quality on Messy Little Raindrops after a unarguably strong lead single in Promise This. It might be a case of “I love Call My Name…but I’m not making *that* mistake again”.

Girls Aloud don’t have that problem. I don’t believe that anyone who bought Out of Control on the strength of The Promise would have been disappointed by the standard of the rest of the album, and similarly with Call The Shots and Tangled Up.

I also remain confident that it’s been long enough since The Sound of Girls Aloud (which is now out of print) for a Girls Aloud singles collection – with good new tracks – to sell by the bucket load if promoted well. And you don’t really get better promotional opportunities than the TV gigs being talked about in regards to the band.
There ain't a reason you and Misha B alone, tonight yeah baby, tonight yeah baby...

If that was the case Call My Name wouldn't be doing well.

I agree with RhythmNative, the lack of quality in her second album is one of the reasons her album is not selling great, although it isn't a disaster, she would have been number 1 if she had released it last week since Chris Brown sold less than her. Plus X Factor was promotion, and she has decided to disappear instead of promoting. All the albums charting high are from artists performing in music festivals and new releases.

That can happen to Girls Aloud if decide to not promote whatever they do, Take That were everywhere during their comeback, Girls Aloud should do the same instead of what Cheryl is doing at the moment. 4 years since their last album is a big gap in the music industry, some of their younger fans back then may be not interested in them anymore, so they need to come back with a full schedule and making people remember what was so amazing about them.

If they don't promote, if they think their music is going to sell without any effort I don't think this reunion project will be successful.

There is more chance of Elvis and John Lennon recording a christmas album together than there is of Girls Aloud not promoting their reunion. It's going to be the biggest pop music event of the year.

Kimberley and Nicola will push those other girls to promote.

I have no problem with Cheryl's album sales. With luck she decides to keep with Girls Aloud and scales back on the solo work. I'm a bit selfish, I know.
Annie, if you're reading this...please know that I want your EP right now!

An inclusion of 'Walk This Way'? 'Girls Allowed' as part of the encore? I'll show you to the exit.

I will defend my choice of Girls Allowed as being very tounge-in-cheek and nostalgic. I imagine the girls to be dressed in over-the-top costumes, kind of poking fun of themselves. And also, it is a damn catchy song.

And Walk This Way is there just to fill out the 'Rock' section. Again, it will just be recognised as a bit of a tounge-in-cheek moment in their discography. Artist's (with an extensive back catalogue) inclusions of slightly dodgy songs in their setlists is always effective in showing their sense of humour and recognition of their past.

Otherwise, I like my setlist. From Glamour to Futuristic to Rock to Ballads to Colourful-Pop to Dance to The Original Classic. Sums them up perfectly imo, :).
Gonna get the energy to wire me close to beautiful robots dancing alone.

I'd probably leave if they did Girls Allowed/Sound Of The Underground as the encore. They're not really tracks I'd end a show with.

They better not mess up their Greatest Hits, it has the potential to be mindblowing. But then some of the worse songs were the biggest hits..

  20. #41195
In all honestly I think the songs I'd personally kill to hear live are "Close To Love" "Untouchable" and "Miss You Bow Wow". Obviously they've all been performed, but I mean if I were actually in attendance, I think these songs would hit me the hardest with the full band and Girls Aloud treatment.
The funny thing is this is Britney's second video with a horse, the first being Me Against The Music

  21. #41196
I suppose the question is whether or not they want to emphasize the 'big' songs (so here comes 'I'll Stand By You' - ugh) or the 'best' songs (make room for 'Untouchable'!).

I don't think they could go wrong with a tracklist like:

    The Promise
    Call the Shots
    New Single
    Biology
    Can't Speak French
    Love Machine
    Sound of the Underground
    New Song
    The Show
    Something Kinda Ooh
    Wake Me Up
    Sexy!
    Untouchable
    The Loving Kind
    I'll Stand By You

I think that covers all bases.

A third single from a mass selling album isn't quite the same as a comeback single after 3 years.
