Sometimes I think The Saturdays are amazing, I mean not in the sense of their songs being enduring, innovative or of any real merit, but just in terms of putting out consistently listenable pop tunes that sound nice on the radio without being remotely challenging to anyone listening. In fact, I'd put them just behind Coldplay in that respect (yeah, I said it).

Up, Work, Ego and Higher are all Amazing, with everything else varying from Just Alright to Very Good. I'd say only Missing You is truly regrettable.

    Ooh, thanks for reminding me....

Chris Martin has one of the worst voices in music today. As a band Coldplay have loads of potentially brilliant songs (Viva La Vida, some of the earlier singles, Princess of China) but his ugly vocals ruin everything they touch.
    Balance dad mysterious.

I tend to agree with this. His voice is tolerable in small doses and I wouldn't go as far as saying that the vocals ruin their songs completely, but I can't help but think that a better singer would have improved their discography a hundredfold.

Missing You is still one of my favorite Saturdays songs.

Unofficial is my ultimate favorite, the Vanessa demo is better though.

It's all about Had It With Today for me regarding The Saturdays B-sides. Una is the only one I think could succeed solo and it's obvious why. Unless she pulls a Nadine. Then it's all ruined.

  7. #17507
I'm not sure if I liked The Saturday if they wouldn't have such nice clothes and such a great style. They do have some nice songs but I'm more interested in their image.

  8. #17508
None of The Saturdays can ever make it solo. Individually (and arguably a lot of the time as a unit) they're absolutely awful.

I want Mollie to go solo. Drench her music in autotune, use all the production trickery that exists, and it will be AMAZING.

The Saturdays just hold absolutely no allure for me whatsoever. Even the few songs that objectively I can hear as being decent are totally ruined by my hatred for the group. I don't really even have any tangible reason for it. They're just totally charmless.
So you like show tunes? That doesn't mean you're gay. It just means you're AWFUL!!!

Yes!! Absolutely amazing. They'll just have to find a few demo singers that have a lisp and they can help her do the work (like Britney)!
You took my heartbeat from me, this is the saddest story

I really like The Saturdays, but I don't feel anything whatsoever for them on a personal level. They're basically completely faceless, but I'm okay with that when I get some truly amazing music.

I think their music is awful. There were some great songs released from Chasing Lights but since then they've gone downhill fast. I absolutely hate All Fired Up and 30 Days especially.

  14. #17514
Loreen's done in one song what The Saturdays have failed to do with 30 Days, All Fired Up, Notorious, Missing You and Higher combined.
Yeah because Lady Gaga is the only pop star of this generation to have an iconic anthematic song. California Gurls says hi. *Eye roll*

The Saturdays are just there, they're never going to get very big. Nobody seems to care that much about them, they have catchy songs sure but they can never seem to get to that next level.

In 15 years they'll be featured on those VH1 specials and people will be like "Oh yeah, them!".

Oh yeah. They will never be 'huge popstars' but that doesn't matter as long as they keep making great pop music. When you consider what actually does make it to #1, anyone's logic that they aren't big because of the music literally falls to pieces. They have a great image as well. The 'All Fired Up' video triumphs all.

I really don't understand the people people who say they don't have individual personalities either. No, they aren't shoved down our throats by the media like some people. But, if you actually took the time to watch some interviews, or a few performances (literally not that hard at all) you would see that they in fact do have their own, interesting (at least as girl groups go) personalities.

There has always been an almost humorous appreciation for Girls Aloud on here. The only thing that slightly irks me is that when comparing them to The Saturdays (they are two completely different groups, but there you go) you get the sense that people actually think that GA are perfect, when they are in fact flawed in more ways than one. I was just about to say that jinzo hoping that The Saturday's would fail was kind of sad, but I'll admit that I do enjoy seeing the artists that get hyperbolic praise around here fail. From Nicola Roberts, to 'MDNA', and I'm certain the Sugababes 'reunion' will surely follow.

When it comes to girl groups on Popjustice in general, I just feel like it really is as annoying as it is with the teenage girls and boybands, except with gay men. I just feel like the topic of 'girl groups' on here are always going to be iffy.

As long as we all agree Danity Kane was better than all of them, then we're good.

    Yes, yes, HELL yes.

I agree with you about the sort of "told you so" feelings when the over-praised fail.

The Britney hysteria mystifies me. She did some good tracks way back when, but as soon as she tried to become credible, out when the memorable tunes and in came rent-a-rappers and wannabe crunk motifs. Gimme More has to be one of the biggest pieces of crap I've ever heard people go head over heels over.

I can't be bothered with The Saturdays. They're not a big presence here in the UK, which is quite funny when you consider they're from the UK! All of my favourite girl groups are strong spirited interesting pop groups. The Saturdays will never fall into that category. They can't even be bothered to learn a dance routine, preferring to sit on some steps and look decorative. For me that sums them up. I find their blandness quite offensive. Bananarama (an absolutely amazing group) were utterly appalling dancers. and crap singers and obviously couldn't be bothered being 'stars', but they were absolutely amazing. Those first few albums (before SAW completely absorbed them) are fantastic records. I can honestly say The Saturdays are nothing more to me than a sub-Girls Aloud. They're seen along those lines for a reason. It didn't surprise me when they went to Kent for Xenomania, I always knew they'd eventually go in that direction. They're Cookie with a persistent management team!

I'm not really into Stooshe either. I feel my brain goes down the bog when they're on TV. They're FUN! They're BRIGHT! They SWEAR! I find it all a bit too calculated.

My absolute favourites are Bananarama, Girls Aloud, Sugababes (1.0/2.0), Lolita Storm, The Shangri-Las, Shampoo, The Ping Pong Bitches...

    Okay...

The Saturdays have their flaws. But, what girl group doesn't. No, they aren't a big presence in the UK. Which is a shame; especially considering who are considered 'big presences' there.

Kelis's best lead single is Young, Fresh n' New.

I genuinely love all of Nicola Robert's music videos , they're all so loveable in their little cheap way. Yo-yo especially is just brilliant in all its cheap glory. Though Beat of My Drum is obviously the best.

I absolutely adore the Beat of My Drum video. Especially when she's shaking her rump*. She just looks like she's genuinely enjoying herself!

*I'm very sorry for using that word. It won't happen again.

In ten years, I've never seen Nicola Roberts looking like shes enjoying herself. Ever.

But that's okay because looking like she'd rather be anywhere else, dancing awkwardly and singing awfully is the shtick which makes her solo career so amazing, right?

Her dancing in the Beat of My Drum video is amazing.

    She's such an awesome popstar.

I love how she looks back to make it's still there too.
