Please don't apologise for being wordy! That was interesting!

In fact, I think the eloquence of people here on Lana is more than enough reason for me to give her music another try. There's a danger I'll find her interesting rather than enjoyable, I think, but that's not the worst reaction to have.

I feel quite bad for calling her coma-inducing yesterday. Born To Die and National Anthem are both really nice. I'll give the rest of the album a proper listen later.

*Thinks of something else unpopular to say*

I once broke up with somebody because he listened to nothing but Kelly Clarkson. He often got me to sit through youtube videos "to show me that she wasn't overweight (not that that would bother me) and was infact really, really talented". I didn't tell him the real reason for breaki...

Actually, I'm going to shut up before I sound like an even greater twat.

The only problem here is if you don't like Kelly Clarkson.

I can't undestand people that don't like Kelly Clarkson. It's completely unjustifiable to me.

If you don't like Kelly Clarkson, I encourage you to check out this video starting at 1:21. Completely amazing.

Once you've watched that and fallen in love, take some time out and watch the full interview. You're welcome.

She's nice and she has a great voice but she's so BASIC. That emptiness and sense of detachment from her work really puts me off her.

  7. #17682
Surely all the Demi Lovato's and Selena Gomez's etc are basic copies of her superlative nicer Christian-version-of-Pink-self?

My interest peaked around the time of 'Never Again' (which is fucking brilliant to this day) and I liked that she stood her ground with the release of 'My December' but from 'My Life Would Suck Without You Onwards' it was all downhill once again.

I'll never deny her credentials as a performer because you'd be foolish to try and argue against talent like that but the singles run from her latest album, as JadeFan said, is so basic I have no desire to check the album itself out.

Kelly was just another 'nice singles' artist who I'd occasionally listen to a few album tracks from for me, until this current album era... now I'm borderline superfan, she has the most incredible back catalogue that I wish I'd got into it earlier and I don't think there's one of her songs that isn't great to sing along to. Plus she always comes across so cute in interviews. And that voice!

Kelly's music has never been anything but "oh that's listenable" to me and while I gave Stronger a listen and thought it was quite a solid album, I have never came back to it since the initial play back when it leaked. I just have never been a fan of her sound.

Kelly Clarkson bores me to death. Nothing I've heard by her has ever stuck out to me. Avril Lavigne deserves to be the top pop-rock Queen.

  12. #17687
Avril needs to go back to punk-pop; that's her at her best.

Kelly is queen. It's sad that All I Ever Wanted happened, really. My December should have had a super successful singles run and then segued right into Stronger. All I Ever Wanted isn't bad, but it isn't quite Kelly, which is where I can see the 'detachment' argument from. However, just listen to My December, especially Sober, and you'll know she's really into making music. She just isn't that big on being a popstar, which is fine by me. I need a few non-popstars to stan for to balance things out.
    The Disney Girls.

  13. #17688
People need to listen to My December before mouthing off nonsense about Kelly.

  14. #17689
Sober is perhaps one of the best things I have heard in my short twenty-three years, so there is no way I could ever say Kelly is 'detached' from her music!

Kelly Clarkson's scream is one of the best sounds in pop.

This is exactly the same for me. I have no interest in her new album, and All I Ever Wanted was total shite. Mr Know it All and What Doesn't Kill You are NOT GOOD, and even though she pissed off her record company with My December, she should've stood her ground. That album was AMAHZING.

  17. #17692
I love Kelly Clarkson, she's one of those artists that she could sing anything and I'd pretty much love it. (Also like Cher Lloyd/Katy Perry/Lady GaGa for me).

  18. #17693
My December is one of my favourite albums ever, but knowing that's the music she wants to make, and then seeing her come out with these by-the-numbers pop smashes is disappointing. It would be nice to see an evolution in her sound, but I just feel like she took a massive leap forward then fifty steps back to what she was doing in the early noughties, which is obviously amazing in itself, but nothing remotely groundbreaking or interesting.

  19. #17694
I've never cared about Kelly Clarkson. I'm not into those American Idol popstars. Adding guitar into pop songs doesn't necessarily make those songs better. I also can't bear Avril Lavgine and her terrible songs. She's a pop panda of doom.
Annie, if you're reading this...please know that I want your EP right now!

  20. #17695
Avril Lavigne has been shit faced too much she is rubbish. Kelly Clarkson used to be good but each album since Breakaway gets a little bit worse and her videos from this era are well and truly cringey!!!

  21. #17696
Kirkland hit it on the head with why I find Kelly a little dull. Her singles sound deliberately huge and made for radio, yet totally unadventurous and lacking in emotion. And My Life Would Suck Without You has to be one of the worst titles (for a single, at least) I've ever come across.

I can see why people like her - she has a bombastic voice - but so does Leona Lewis. Doesn't make her or her music interesting. Sorry. With a few exceptions it's Scandinavian and British pop all the way for me.

Christ, I sound so hate-filled. I don't dislike her, just indifferent.

Kelly Clarkson is a product. There's a huge difference between that, and someone like Christina.

Kelly WAS a product, around Thankful and Breakaway. This is said like someone who hasn't heard My December. All I Ever Wanted wasn't really 'her', but it still had six co-writing credits, and Stronger is very much a joint effort between her and her label. Comparing her to Christina in a contrasting way is a bit odd, because there are many parallels that can be drawn in terms of their involvement, though the latter may be slightly more involved in videos and such.

Kelly was cursed with a bad record label. She's fought and fought to get things her way at times, which is hardly something that a 'product' would do.

Pretty much every female who was on RCA originally (Kelly, Christina, Avril) have been cursed.

Some just came out a little better off that curse than others...
