Thread: *Spice Girls*

Of course they couldn't shift copies of the Greatest Hits - they didn't really have any after 20 million already bought the TWO albums that had the ones they liked already.

The opening/closure ceremonies usually includes the performance of various personalities from the country that have had global recognition. Since the music is one of the UK's biggest global contibutions and the Spice Girls are both musical and cultural icons, their involvement would make sense.
14 years ago, yes they were.

I'm just so over the spice girls and girl power now, when it was real and current, you could tell they believed it and worked hard to make it happen.

Now its just like their pension fund, they drag out of retirement to reupholster Mel B's animal print sofas.

I'm not saying they shouldn't do it, I'd just much rather something else rather than them busting out the hits of '96/'97

For the record, I say they wouldn't feel out of place there, not that they could/should be the main only musical act of the show.

Just came in to say Spice Girls are and will always be icons.

I think Victoria will do it. and if Mel B said they could be doing it then they must have all discussed it.

  6. #531
They had better do Viva Forever.

Makes sense to do a few high profile one-off performances to get the musical lodged in peoples minds for its premier in the winter.

Not sure I believe it was an accident of Mel's (Surely they know what she's like by now) but I'm glad for any bit of news on a reunion, however short.

This is great news! The Spice Girls are already worldwide icons, but performing at the 2012 Olympics would be a massive achievement for them.

Sorry but I laughed my balls off at the Girls Aloud reports earlier last year. Can you imagine Sarah Harding's bum note being hit for the whole world to see?

That youtube video should be the main event of the opening ceremony.

Or at the very least, replace Chariots Of Fire during the BBC coverage.
No disrespect to GA but they've just not got the global appeal to pull an audience outside their markets/audience.
At least with the Spice Girls people who loved or loathed them would sit up and take notice -even if it was just to see if they pulled it off or not.

I'm still so peeved that Mel B prevented them performing at Live 8. Her excuse back then was because she wanted to remain anonymous. -Cue two years later she's on US TV peddling the Eddie Murphy scandal and cashing child support cheques en route to the Dancing With The Stars studios.

    Just wanted to repeat this.

And I hope that they will reunite for that one off gig.

I sometimes think Mel B just says this kind of none comital stuff to get herself a bit of media coverage. Really who gives one when she comes to the UK unless it's Spice related?

This is all great timing, I've re-added their 3 albums onto my iPhone.

I'll never get over my love for Spice World.

    Big news concerning the musical!
The Spice Girls are ready for their big West End first night. The women behind Girl Power will all be at the world premiere of Viva Forever which, I can reveal, will open at the Piccadilly Theatre in December, well before Christmas.

    (...)

The Spice Girls show has a mother and daughter story at its heart, with a television talent show as a backdrop.

Emma and Mel C cried when they watched footage of the workshops; both felt it reflected the group’s ethos — friendship, identity and being true to yourself — and also saw it as an astute commentary on today’s obsession with celebrity.
