Thread: The Newsroom

New Sorkin drama that starts tomorrow on Sky Atlantic, or available now on Sky+ Anytime.

I know the reviews have been mixed, but as someone who loves Sorkin's style, I think he's hit another home run. Brilliantly written, makes you think, and a fair bit more comedy than I was expecting.

Oh, and I fucking adore Emily Mortimer.

I think it's good but also very uneven like it doesn't know what it wants to be yet. The comedy and the serious bits don't really gel. It's quite preachy and some of the dialogue is gob smackingly awful, like when Mackenzie was trying to convince everyone Will was a good guy in episode 2. I cringed. But I do like her and most of the cast.

I'm going to put my neck on the line here and say that the last 8 minutes of episode 4 were among the best minutes of television I've watched in ages. I had goosebumps everywhere. When Don, who has been presented to us thus far as sort-of-a-twat said "It's a person" I choked up. In my opinion the deprecation this show gets: unwarranted.

I've watched the whole run in 3 days, it's frickin awesome! Even the occasionally chunky dialogue in a way feels right with the characters we have; that they're all great in their field, but they struggle with regular interactions.

Mackenzie and Sloane are definite highlights, as is Dev Patel (wouldn't usually be a fan of him).
    YNWA.
