Rumour has it* that Kate has been filming with Jude Law a video for a new version of "Running Up that Hill"!

    Here's a picture.

Is it for a new Director's Cut-style album? Greatest Hits (we're well past due for a new one, and demand is clearly high)? Or even something for the Olympics (doubtful but it's Kate so you never know)?

This was reported all over the place yesterday but has mysteriously vanished, suggesting Kate or those involved have asked for it to be removed. EMI are also apparently involved (they have the rights to Kate's early albums). Interesting...

    *it's almost confirmed

    Very interesting....
    Balance dad mysterious.

I'm thinking it's a Greatest Hits, especially with EMI's involvement. It could be like The Whole Story! "Running Up that Hill (New Vocal)", anyone?!

Re-workings of her earlier albums would be bloody fascinating.

Also, Kate's site previously confirmed to that she was upgrading her studio and that a new single would definitely be released in 2012.

I hope it's not a let down like 50 Words and Director's Cut.

I'd love a new Kate album, and a new 'The Whole Story' is long overdue.

Wouldn't surprise me though if this was something to do with the new stellar cast filled brit flick Anna Karenina (released this September) which stars Jude Law, and whose character in the film says 'we are bound together by god, and this can only be broken by a crime against god'.

Running Up That Hill as i'm sure we all know was called 'A Deal With God'

    coincidence?

oh, and it wouldn't surprise me to find this version was done as part of the Directors Cut project and saved til now, allowing frugal Bush some valuable tea n biccies time - she must be exhausted, the poor love!

I say this as a recent convert to the Bush, but I don't really see 50 Words as a let-down.

To be fair, it was one of the first Kate albums I heard in full, so that possibly plays a role in my attachment to it. I've always been aware of Kate but (given that she released half of her albums prior to my birth) I only decided to take the plunge into her entire catalogue this past year. Needless to say I'm completely stunned and enamoured and don't understand how I ever lived without her, etc. But I do think that 50 Words still holds it's own against her other albums. It can't come close to The Dreaming, Hounds Of Love or even Sensual World, but I find it more enjoyable than Lionheart (at least).

I think 50 Words is something that you have to listen to in it's entirety, as an experience, to really get involved in it. Some of the songs could probably do with a few minutes shaved off, and I don't really care for the Elton and Stephen features, and I suppose it would be more interesting if there was more variation. But I think that the magic is still there. She compensates for the vocals being weaker and the melodies being subtler by really giving it her all on the piano. The luscious arrangements are what completely won me over - but then again I'm a really keen pianist, so that might be why I particularly adore that element...

I can definitely see how a fan would be longing for a little less mumbling musings, and a little more melody. But I truly believe that Misty is one of her best ever songs.

I've decided that I would like her to record a new album with harpsichord as the primary instrument, and the lyrics to be in Ye Olde English.

I don't think 50 Words was disappointing, it was and is a really lovely winter album. It just doesn't work very well as individual tracks or outside of winter. I tend to see it as winter to A Sky Of Honey's summer.

Director's Cut on the other hand... The only good thing to come out of that was the "de-mastered" The Red Shoes; the project itself was pointless at best, horrific at worst.
...According to a study I'm thinking of conducting.

    YES!

A concept album about a year in somebody's life, that somebody being a 17th century farm girl, with each of the 12 tracks (named January, February and so on) having a seasonal feel. She's already proven herself to be more than able to pull off music with a seasonal feel - A Sky of Honey and 50 Words - so imagine a year-round album full of 1600s pastoral harpsichords and flutes!

Actually, a lot of people would find that dull, wouldn't they? Only history obsessives likes me could like it. Sadly.

I don't really like 50 Words for Snow that much, I don't dislike it either, it's nice background music, but there's nothing on there that grabs me. I really like Director's Cut though, the versions of This Woman's Work and Moments of Pleasure are a couple of my favourite songs of hers.

Would anyone on here by any chance have scans of The Dreaming's lyric booklet? I'm sure someone posted scans of Kate's album covers before on this forum.
Annie, if you're reading this...please know that I want your EP right now!

I'm in total agreement with this. She's the only person on the planet who could pull it off and turn it into something enjoyable.

You just know that she'd get totally under the skin of the character. She managed to make me weep about a snowman fetish of all things! Kate is one of the few story-telling songwriters who doesn't waste too much time on exposition - she just assumes you know what the hell she's on about and goes straight to the heart of the character.

I love this new busy Kate. Two albums in one year, and then actually doing something the year after? Crazy.

I really enjoyed Director's Cut. These songs in particular make it worthwhile:

Flower of the Mountain - It was nice to hear it with the original lyrics, although I'd like it if there is a 1989 demo with these lyrics to be released in years.
Song of Solomon - Prefer this to the version on The Red Shoes. That album was the last Kate album to finish my collection, not long before Director's Cut came out. I prefer the production on a lot of the album's songs
Deeper Understanding - Love the harmonica-jamming bit, and the autotune is interesting.
This Woman's Work - absolutely devastating. Feels quite different to the original, but still amazing. I love having both versions.
Moments of Pleasure - ditto, but not as good as This Woman's Work remake, because it's not as good a song originally.
Rubberband Girl - love the sound of Kate having fun with this version.

I really enjoy 50 Words... as well. I hope it snows properly this year so I can go for a long walk and listen to the whole album.

I really should look into The Bush a bit more deeply...
So you like show tunes? That doesn't mean you're gay. It just means you're AWFUL!!!

"Flower of the Mountain" is incredible, but it doesn't quite pack the punch that the instrumental of the original delivers, but that goes for the whole album as a whole, it's quite sparse and drawn out and some songs are so much better for it."Song of Soloman" is a particular standout, with Kate's noticeably evolved voice being perfectly suited to the backing vocals. But here it's the instrumental that stands out, stripped back and warm. I'm still having fun listening to Director's Cut - 2011 "Rubberband Girl" sounds even more ridiculous than the original. It's probably my favourite of the two Bush albums last year.

    So, to summarise:
    What we know:
    a) Some sort of video was shot with Jude Law at a studio in London
    b) EMI are involved
    c) There is a re-recorded/remix/edit of "Running Up that Hill" somewhere
    d) A Kate release has been confirmed for 2012

    Conjecture
    a) New 'Director's Cut' style album
    b) New Greatest Hits
    c) Combo of the two

  22. #22
    d) A one-off release for a soundtrack.
Leaving out hideous expressions like 'Kelendria' (who even is that?) would be a good start. - Someboy re: Kelly Rowland's birth name

I dunno if I found them a letdown persay.

More that Kate is now a slightly reclusive middle-aged mum who no longer likes to dance. Which is fine... just I'm not there yet.

I liked the Kate who was immersed in the current music scene and danced a lot.

Up until the recent "Director's Cut" Project, she was never a backwards looking artist.

Any project that is not a new studio album (with the exception of a Bluray of every music video in her catalogue, including "The Line, The Cross & The Curve", the German T'efling performances/ BBC Performances and 1979 Christmas Special), is simply boring and she needs to move on from this dining out on, and "re-interpreting" her past works - malarky (already).

She needs to soundtrack a classy arty horror movie. It would be an entire album of quirky Kate genius.
