I'm working on a wedding/bachelor party movie at the moment which will basically start with all most dramatical 'I don't think I can do this', 'I don't think it's gonna last' kind of (out of context quotes) so I'm looking for some fitting score for that opening sequence, which I'd like to give the suspense of a good trailer, combined with the emotion of the average crappy reality soap montage..

    Any good suggestions?

(the scene right before it has this piece http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yDxmHqBeVE combined with romantic shots and an 'awww, they look so happy... only 48 hours until they're supposed to get married.. but should they really?' voice-over)

Be careful with Greensleeves, depending on the audience of the movie. It was turned into the Christmas tune "What Child Is This", and might send the viewer's thoughts somewhere completely different than you intend to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brmRUlKbF7g

I'd say a lot of stuff that Angelo Badalamenti has done could fit the bill. Perhaps Mysteries of Love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4kLytX9xQg
Born to run, get ahead of the rest.

Oh the crowd's not really a Groban one I think!

As for your suggestion, I think I'm looking for something just a bit more powerful with some beats or rumbling in it, like during Toy Story 3's fire scene.. (but I got that soundtrack and that isn't quite it either..)
With a bit more tempo too cause most quotes are quite short so it would be good to change from one person to another with each (4th) beat.. Preferably with the music getting more and more dramatical with each measure working towards a climax. Bit like the X Factor's artist intros too, but that one's a bit too fast..
(Describing how something should sound is not my finest skill)

Are you looking just for an instrumental?

  5. #5
Yes, considering people will talk through it that will probably work out best.

What about this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpAamBuUGXU ? Maybe you can snip something out from it halfway through that fits your scene.

I realize I am só hard to please. I basically have a very very clear idea in my head what it should sound like, yet I can't think of the song to go with it.
Frozen is a nice instrumental but a bit too recognizable and (odd as it is considering the full song) the instrumental sounds a bit too upbeat/positive to me, more like something for a 'recalling happy moments' montage.

Try some of the Sound Of Arrows album? The physical edition included a second disc that was the full album in instrumental, dunno if that one's in iTunes but some of the album tracks are standard instrumental anyway. Though it might all be a bit too uplifting for you.

Or maybe the first half minute of this? I don't know if that's enough. Ayumi has more dramatic music, if you think that's suitable I could search for a bit that lasts a bit longer.

Love that Ayumi song once the 'beat' starts. Unfortunately it's only 10 seconds until she starts singing, but definitely on the right track here!

The Sound Of Arrows songs all sound a bit more 'euphoric end sequence' than 'dramatical build-up/intro' to me.

The beginning of reminds me, makes me think of (reminds me) of Björk's Jóga. Similar and longer.
There are clearer instrumentals out there, that's all youtube had though.

I don't know if you'd be able to hunt down the instrumentals but I'd say these are all quite suspenseful and emotional?

    Alanis Morrisette - Tapes
    Childish Gambino - Heartbeat
Darren Hayes - Black Out The Sun (Orchestral version especially)
Been there, done that, t-shirt didn't fit.

Sorry for all the Ayu spam but how's this? I have the instrumental to the full song but I couldn't find that on YouTube so PM me if you like it. She has so many dramatic songs though! It might be a bit too much haha. Dramaqueen Ayu.

Hmm, not sure on that one either, but it started with an advert which might point me in the right direction

(that is, if I find out what the song at the start is.. which has also reminded me to check out my Desperate Housewives scores)

I just realized the instrumental for t.A.T.u's all about us is about perfect for it. More songs with a similar sound are welcome!

Thanks for all the suggestions, in the end Michael Bublés Cry Me A River intro was the perfect fit.
