    It's halfway through the year, and I finally have five albums I love, so I guess I can do this.

    Top 5 Singles:

    Plan B - Ill Manors (especially The Prodigy remix)
    Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe
    2ne1 - Scream
    Katy Perry - Wide Awake
    Scissor Sisters - Shady Love

    I left out Part of Me because as much as I love it (it's my most played song), it doesn't feel like a 2012 song, even given all it's success.

    Top 5 Songs:

    Jack Peņate - No One Lied
    Azealia Banks - Bambi
    Melody Thornton - Bulletproof (Melody)
    Nicki Minaj - Fire Burns
    Lana Del Rey - Off To The Races

    I really wanted to add Princess Die, but it didn't feel right, seeing as it's only a live performance. It gets an honorary mention, though.

    Top 5 Albums:

    1) Glen Hansard - Rhythm & Repose
    2) Melanie Fiona - The MF Life
    3) Nicki Minaj - Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded
    4) Amanda Mair - Amanda Mair
    5) Marilyn Manson - Born Villain

    I feel like the first half of the year has been a little light on albums in general, to be honest. I can only think of a handful more I've properly listened to, never mind would have thought about including.

    Top 5 Disappointments:

    1) Magic Hour (Especially coming off the back of Shady Love)
    2) MDNA (bar Gang Bang and I Don't Give A, basically)
    3) Birthday Cake-gate happening
    4) Drunk on Love not happening
    5) Diana Vickers/Little Boots/Brandy all basically going M.I.A.

  4. #54
    Yay for Amanda Mair! You're not completely shit.
    Balance dad mysterious.

    Top albums

    1. Paloma Faith - Fall to Grace
    2. Nicki Minaj - Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded
    3. Lana Del Rey - Born to Die
    4. Marina and the Diamonds - Electra Heart
    5. Reserved for Ke$ha.

    Edit: Zowie - Love Demolition should go somewhere in there.

    Disappointments

    1. Kin
    2. MDNA (Although can you say it was disappointing if it lived up to your expectations?)
    3. Electra Heart (hehe.)

    Kin and Electra Heart are both strong and have lots of excellent tracks but didn't live up to my expectations / the previous discography of the respective artist. And MDNA is just shit (except for Girl Gone Wild).

    Well, since I don't watch TV/listen to radio I'm probably not much good with singles or music videos. I'm going to split my list into honorable mentions (that I think people should listen to because they're excellent albums) and then my personal 'top 5' to finish it off. Literally no good for the remaining categories, unfortunately.

    Albums though, hit me baby.

    Rockin' & Poppin' in 2012-:

    Honorable mentions (in no particular order):
    * Frank Ocean - channel ORANGE (R&B)
    * 塞壬 (SingerSen) - Ghost Street EP (Chinese, Experimental, Electro-pop)
    * Tyson - Die on the Dancefloor (Electronic, Disco, Nu-disco)
    * Van She - Idea of Happiness (Electronic, Synth-pop)
    * iamamiwhoami - Kin (Ambient, Electronic, Experimental, Electro-pop)
    * Scissor Sisters - Magic Hour (A heady mix of deviant sexual escapades)
    * Miike Snow - Happy To You (Alternative dance, Electronic, Indie, Electro-pop)
    * Bear in Heaven - I Love You, It's Cool (Electronic, Psychedelic, Indie, Synth-rock, Shoegaze)
    * St. Lucia - St. Lucia EP (Electronic, Indie, Nu-disco, Tropical)
    * Garbage - Not Your Kind of People (Alternative rock, Electronic) < Near miss for Top 5
    * Bright Light Bright Light - Make Me Believe In Hope (Dance, Electronic, Electro-pop, Pop) < Near miss for Top 5

    TOP 5 (again, in no particular order):
    * Saint Etienne - Words & Music by Saint Etienne
    * Marina & The Diamonds - Electra Heart
    * Zowie - Love Demolition
    * Gossip - A Joyful Noise
    * Donkeyboy - Silver Moon

    Haven't really had too many standout albums this year, barring Llama Del Rey (and, even then, I think it's the unreleased tracks that are superior to at least half of that album), Marina and, actually, Madonna (MDNA is a great album with two awful, AWFUL single choices). Fiona Apple is growing on me, but it's taken a bit. Actually, my favourite album of the year is probably Barchords by Bahamas (youtube Lost In The Light or Caught Me Thinking).

    SINGLES

    01 - Call Me Maybe - The Jeppo
    02 - Primadonna - Marina And The Diamonds
    03 - National Anthem - Lana Del Rey
    04 - Every Single Night - Fiona Apple
    05 - Part Of Me - Katy Perry
