Thread: Les Misérables

Amazing film but Russell's singing was off-putting.

Also, everyone clapped at the end of the film and the cinema people didn't turn the lights on when the credits started to roll, presumably because everyone was still crying. I didn't cry.

I was stanning hard for Ali G and Bellatrix though.

    Amazing. So was I.

The woman sat next to me began sobbing as soon as Anne Hathaway's hair was cut off, and then continued for the rest of the film, ramping up to open weeping by the end.

I thought it was very good. 8/10. Russel Crowe is such a DILF.
Well this is just jolly isn\'t it?

It was fantastic, never in all the films I have seen in Ireland has the audience actually clapped. Brilliant performances from Hugh and Anne. Russel was such a bad singer...

I thought Russel was alright! It was Marius who I couldn't stand, the tone of his voice was absolutely awful! So nasal. I don't why they cast a bass and in a tenor part, you could tell he was straining to reach a few notes.

Samantha Barks had the best voice and then I'd say Anne also did a great job with the singing. To be honest, the singing was hit and miss but the acting made up for it with the actors who didn't have such... pleasant voices.

This is simply one of the greatest pieces of film art I have ever seen. Truly magnificent from beginning to end. Gagging to go see it again, but at least I have the soundtrack to fall back on for now!

    Outstanding.

    Second-timing it tonight.

Make take a pillow for my arse, but I'm excited to see it again.
You wanted it, and now you've got it. The latest result of 'The Beyoncé Videos Rate' is now in.

Oh God, I couldn't go and watch it again.

I really struggled with this film. On one hand, I absolutely loved some of the individual 'set-pieces' (Hathaway's 'I Dreamed', 'Do You Hear The People Sing?', 'On My Own', 'Master of the House', that one about the TV show red and black~) and found myself humming along for a couple of days after to them. However, it was the connecting bits that really sunk the film for me. I felt like I was listening to the same monotonous rambling from Jackman every time he opened his mouth and the bits between him and Crowe were also pretty dull.

I know it goes against the whole tradition of the musical, but I really felt like it would have been improved if there was more spoken dialogue and less iffy, tuneless singing. I burst out laughing at one point because I couldn't quite believe that the actors were singing to any particular tune. It just felt really heavy and actually quite annoying after a while.

But again, I absolutely adored some of the more uplifting moments and when the songs are great, the songs are great. I just felt bogged down by the continuous monotony of the sections that linked the obviously superior moments.
I'm about to drown in the ocean.

I'm going to see this soon but I have just one question: is it worth watching in 3D? I saw Life of Pi the other day and that was worth watching in 3D but a lot of live action movies seem to not be worth that extra cost.

It hasn't been released in 3D.
Replying with GIFs is like arguing with a tree - really boring.

Oops... I guess that answers my question then!

Wasn't fussed on seeing this, but I loved it. It's a blu-ray must have now for me. I loved Russell's singing too - I was bracing for it to be awful.

It's a nice movie. Everybody is singing.

Yeah you already made clear you didn't know Les Mis several times.
