The Eurovis-extravaganza sent me rifling around for my old Bro of Man Best Of.

Beyond their Eurovision win, they somehow scored two more number ones with Fernando rip-off Angelo and Angeleyes-a-likey Figaro!

That said, these songs aren't bad in a forget-they-ever-existed kinda way. Nice harmonies and crisp, clear vocals. I'd say they were more like the Steps of their day than they were ever like ABBA, marred by an unending Butlins run that's seen them pedal out dismal covers of old disco/glam rock hits (that litter the latter part of said CD - I Will Survive, Hot Love, Ernie the Fastest Milkman...!!?!)

    Any love?

I don't know that much about them and can't imagine their ouvere was enough to warrant it's own thread. Perhaps a '70's kind of naff but cool' acts thread with other acts like The Dooleys, Nolans, Lyndsey de Paul etc? I always found 'save all your kisses' a bit creepy...'even though you're only three'. They do epitomise seventies 'summertime special' type variety pop which often came out of shows like 'New faces' and 'Opportunity knocks'. The kind of stuff that appealed to all ages due to their inoffenciveness.

I quite like Brotherhood of Man in a 'so bad they're good' way. \i think I own 3 of their albums. 'Angelo' and 'Figaro' a both properly brilliant (In a completely unironic way) and they have the 2 best closing lines in musical history............

    'My Sweet Rosalie' - www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KaozAKgBQU

The last one especially is a complete jaw dropper. It's hard to believe grown adults chose to record that.

You're so right with the Steps comparison. To this day Steps think of themselves as a modern ABBA which is nonsense.

Is that the one where it turns out to be a song about a dog? If so, mental.

I loathe the Steps-to-ABBA comparisons. The tunes may sound alike but the creative differences are mammoth.

Yes. It goes on about meeting 'Sweet Rosalie' and tells us all about how lovely she is and how he loves spending time with her and then ends ubruptly with the classic line...

"She's the only one for me, the cutest little puppy dog you'll see"? It's barking mad!!! (See what I did there).

Nearly as bad is 'Save All Your Kisses...' which ends with the clunker.....

'Save all you kisses for me, even though you're only 3'??? Which in this day and age just sounds creepy.

    Awful. But brilliant.

They sounded bad enough when I was 5. I wouldn't even like to imagine how shit I'd find them now.

I thought that Angelo was amazing! I remember singing it on the swing at my cousins house years and years ago at the top of my voice.

    Angelo is absolute genius.

    All together now.....

    'Running away together,
    Running away forever, ANGELO'
