I have by now played it about 60 times. I love everything about it, mostly how different it is from what people would expect PSB to come up with.

It's a bit as if Madonna released Love Spent as the lead single off MDNA.

I love the spaciousness of the production, the layered vocals, the piano. Should be superb in cd quality. Am curious about the video - do we know it was actually meant to be linked with the song?

I hope we will hear more about the release strategy and dates for the album in the next week or two.

    Very "Behaviour". Beautiful.

Not the usual big launch single but these are unusual times. I'm quietly excited.

The Pets are my second favorite band of all time and I have to say I'm severely underwhelmed by this. I'm seriously hoping this is not at all reflective of the new album. That said, it's still better than anything on Release (the Pet album I choose to ignore completely.....).

I love how quiet and reflective it is. It manages to achieve this without ever sounding indulgent or ineffectual the way, say (to use a recent example) "Numb" did. It's also beautifully produced, delicate, subtle, all the things that a mature, seasoned British band who perfected understatement in pop should be.

The only issue I have with it is that the melody is extremely weak. Alas, that's the most important aspect of a song for me.

So now we know, Invisible is a taster for the new album, called Elysium, out in September!

    I love it!

Pet Shop Boys are at their best when they're introspective. By which I mean, when they make music like this, not the music that's on Introspective. Having said that, Introspective is one of their best albums. Pet Shop Boys are just great full stop.

Love it. It could fit perfectly on 'Fundamental', but it sounds less... pompous. It has a sad grandness in the spaciousness of the production and in the layered vocals, but it's perfectly understated. The title is just perfect.
And even though I'm glad this is not the first single (I know they can't have big hits anymore, but still an attempt at hit would be worth it), it's a perfect taster of what's to come.

    Official announcement on their site:

In September Pet Shop Boys will release a new album, entitled "Elysium", on Parlophone. The album was produced in Los Angeles by Andrew Dawson and Pet Shop Boys. To give an idea of the album’s sound, a short film for the album track “Invisible” can be viewed online now on this site or on www.vevo.com. The film was made by renowned Los Angeles artist/film-maker Brian Bress.

Like several tracks on “Elysium”, “Invisible” features backing vocals by singer/songwriter James Fauntleroy and veteran singers Oren, Maxine and Julie Waters whose long singing career spans sessions with The Jackson Five to Adele.

Invisible = Amazing. Reminds me of the breakdown (?) mix of I Want To Wake Up which is also amazing. Might be interested in buying a PSB album again!

Elysium is the least PSB title ever.

When it leaked first via a Facebook page called Being Pet Shop Boys, I expected, well, you can guess.

So what can we read into the title?

Elysium or the Elysian Fields is a conception of the afterlife that evolved over time and was maintained by certain Greek religious and philosophical sects, and cults. Initially separate from the realm of Hades, admission was initially reserved for mortals related to the gods and other heroes. Later, it expanded to include those chosen by the gods, the righteous, and the heroic, where they would remain after death, to live a blessed and happy life, and indulging in whatever employment they had enjoyed in life.
    EPIC, for one thing.
Replying with GIFs is like arguing with a tree - really boring.

It's also the name of a gay gay gay hotel in Mykonos!

I certainly do not want a lot of Go West's, New York City Boy's and Rent's as they are my three least favourite Pet Shop Boys tracks. It Always Comes As A Surprise is my all time favourite alongside Heart, Discoteca and Footsteps. Invisible just feels devoid of any life and soul and has some God awful lyrics!

Rent is the best PSB single.

Yes, it's also where everyone goes after the bach to watch the sunset / have mojitos / dance to awful music and watch awful drag shows.
    It has the best view.

Been there, didn't love it to be honest. It's a bit too gay for a run-of-the-mill gay like me. Prefer the Belvedere if splashing out!

I love quietly euphoric pop. Elysium and I should get along nicely.

Also, I love that "Invisible" is being described as introspective.
