Sistar once again dominating the Billboard.

Not sure what made 4Minute shoot up the albums chart, but nice going anyway. Also glad to see another top 10 hit for Sunny Hill, even if this is less immediate than the grasshopper song.

Was that Maroon 5 song featured on some show? Because it sucks really bad.

  4. #579
I think they're just becoming quite popular in Asia right now. The song was slaying Japanese iTunes earlier in the week (though it's fallen now thankfully)

SISTAR's song seems to have really struck a chord with the public. It's not the week's top-selling single but still #1 on Gaon's combined chart. They also just won Music Bank for a second time with this.

Sunny Hill's recent singles run is so lovely.

    Midnight Circus #7
    Pray #9
    The Grasshopper Song #2
Is the White Horse Coming? #8

  5. #580
I heard Payphone on Rooftop Prince.

    This week's charts are in!

    Points of interest

SNSD sub-unit TaeTiSeo open big on the downloads ranking, scoring the weekly #1 with 604k sold, while also knocking off SISTAR's "Alone" from the combined ranking after 2 weeks on top. "Twinkle"'s first-week haul is the 5th highest 1 week sales total of 2011, behind BIG BANG (925k), miss A (799k), 2AM (736k) and Jeong Jun-ha (692k), and the 3rd highest for a #1 debut (behind BIG BANG and 2AM). Counting singles from Girls' Generation proper, this is the group's 8th #1 single. TaeTiSeo also manage the chart double; their "Twinkle" EP opens at #1 on the albums ranking as well.

Elsewhere on the chart - JYP scores another Top 10 with "You're The One" (320k), which debuts at #2 one week after the chart-topping success of "Someone Else". IU's "Peach" (293k) opens at the #3 spot with just 1 day of sales behind it; expect a big jump next week. IVY's plan to win back the public with balladry seems to be working - "Torn Heart" (276k) hits a new peak at #4 this week. Two new debuts round off the Top 10 - December's "She`s Gone" (204k) at #7 and Block B's "Close My Eyes" (177k) at #10. Gavy NJ and EXID's LE also score a Top 20 with "Don't Call" at #13.

Solid TTS numbers.. about on par with how main group singles usually do, right? Times like these it's annoying not to get album numbers, though.

  8. #583
Just noticed EXO-K have sold just over 60k, pretty impressive for a debut group even if most of that was SM buzz. Even EXO-M managed 30k!

And nice to see SHINee over the 150k mark, definitely makes up for Sherlock not smashing.

Ahhh and Big Bang now at 265k, job well done.

Oops was actually planning to put that in my report but forgot. But yes, about on par with their last comeback. The Boys sold 759,463 first week. Though it then also sold an additional 620,454 the week after! haha.

  10. #585
Sherlock debuted at #1, has sold over 1.4 million to date, cleaned up on the weekly programs... sure as hell wasn't a flop!

Thanks for reminding me monthly numbers are out though.

Why are 4minute selling tons more albums but SISTAR beating them with their single? I'm happy for both of them, just curious.

  12. #587
4minute's been around longer so they've had more time to develop an album-buying fanbase?
SISTAR seems to be more popular with the singles-buying general public?

Either way, BOTH acts are performing amazingly well. Volume Up is officially 4minute's best-selling album ever, and Alone is SISTAR's fastest-selling ever - all they need is a few thousand more sold this month and they'll surpass SO COOL's total for the whole of 2011. Can't believe how well both comebacks have been going.

  13. #588
Ouch, Girl's Day aren't in the top 20? How did they do with Oh! My God compared to their other singles?
Nothing like unbearable tragedy to bring people together.

  14. #589
Weird how f(x)'s Hot Summer re-entered ha. I miss them. Danger is still one of the best songs of 2011

#9 weekly peak and #35 for the month (418,269 sold so far). Their two biggest hits are Twinkle Twinkle (#5 peak, 2,076,188 sold in 2011) and Hug Me Once (#15 peak, 1,422,182 sold in 2011).

It'll probably end as big as Hug Me Once (read: minor hit). There's lots of groups with worse performing singles however, they're doing OK.

  16. #591
Incredible hit - SISTAR's Alone #1 on Billboard for the 4th week in a row.

    K-Pop Hot 100 (Current: 5.13 - 5.19)

Sistar staying off SNSD, power of 4.

  18. #593
Thanks for the answer 3Xs! I thought Hug Me Once sold a bit more, oh well that's not too bad.
So glad to see Alone doing so well. Mighty Sistar indeed.

    This week's charts are in!

    Points of interest

Baek Ji Young tops this week's charts with an impressive 529k of her new single "Voice" featuring LeeSsang's Gary. Meanwhile IU has 2 songs in this week's Top 5; "Peach" at #2 (which actually didn't see the huge sales boost I predicted, only logging another 381k) and "Every End of the Day" at #5 (311k). Last week's #1 GIRLS` GENERATION TTS drop 2 slots in their second week out, selling 330k of "Twinkle". This week sees new debuts from ULALA Session at #4 (322k), Mighty Mouth and SOYA at #8 (210k), and A Pink, who score their first-ever top 10 with "HUSH" at #10 (192k).

On the albums chart EKO-K rise 4 slots to take the top position. This is their second stay at #1, following their chart-topping debut the week ending April 14. The rest of the albums top 10 looks much the same with no major new releases this week, minus the bizarre appearance of "2012 Markers Live Worship: Our Saviour Jesus Christ" at #6. Can never say Gaon isn't at least interesting.

Wow at Teen Top moving up 51 places. I wonder if Crazy was used in a drama or something and it shot up because of that. Also, very happy to see my boys (EXO-K) at number 1 again! Glad to see EXO-M, SHINee in the Top 10 as well. And I still need to see what Busker Busker is all about.
If you feel like a stranger, there's no need to run.

In Japan: T-ara's Bo Peep is now certified gold in downloads and Mr. Taxi is now double platinum.

I have a feeling it would probably take two or more promotion cycles in Korea for T-ara to make as much money as they did off of 100,000 downloads in Japan...

  23. #598
Let me try getting back into the habit of posting the Japanese charts again. Sadly no cumulative totals right now since we lost so many weeks with the forum change and the old thread still being lost *grumble grumble* but at least we'll have the weekly sums.

    This week's charts are in!

    Points of interest

What IU's new single lacked in explosive debut power it is making up for in longevity. "Every End of the Day" scores the uncommon second-week #1 feat as the track rises 5-1 on sales of 415k, up over 100,000 from last week. This is the singer's 8th #1 single in barely 2 years, and her 7th as a leading artist. "Peach" meanwhile isn't as long-lasing - the #2 peaking single drops 12 spots this week, down 2-14.

Brave Guys "I Don't Care" is the highest debut of the week - launching at #2 (322k). Baek Ji Young scores her second Top 5 hit in 2 weeks with "Good Boy" at #4 (277k); her other top fiver "Voice" slides 1-3 (285k). LeeSsang's Unplugged cut "Hard to be Humble" debuts at #8 with 228k sold. Rounding out the Top 10 we have INFINITE, who open at #9 with "The Chaser" (222k), 13 spots above where "Be mine" debuted last year with similar sales (later going on to peak at #15). It is the group's 3rd Top 10 single and their 3rd highest peaking to date behind "White Wishes" (#5) and "Paradise" (#3).

As is typical with boy bands INFINITE find themselves higher on the album's chart, debuting at #2 with new EP INFINITIZE. It is their second #2 album following last year's OVER THE TOP. Paradise remains their sole chart-topper. The boys of course have to settle for the runners-up slot behind JYJ's JUNSU and his 'XIA' solo-project Tarantallegra, which enters at #1. Another debut LP opening high - A Pink's first album Une Annee enters at #4 one week after scoring their first-ever Top 10 single in "HUSH". Rounding out the bevy of new album debuts are IU at #3, ULALA Session at #5, Baek Ji Young at #8, and Dalmatian at #9.

    10. EXO-K - MAMA` EXO-K The 1st Mini Album [-9]

  25. #600
Argh I didn't know INFINITE were up against Junsu! And I don't like seeing their best song debut at #9, *sigh* the life of a boy band. I'm expecting really good sales from the album and for them to win some awards.

Dalmatian's ER warming up at #67, just getting a good feel for the charts before shooting to #1.
