...precisely my feeling on Robbie Williams. Perhaps he is the Phil Collins of today!

I've long thought Robbie filled the Phil Collins shaped hole in the charts. I personally prefer Robbie. I despised Phil Collins in the 80s, he stood for everything I hated in music, politics and fashion. As time has gone on, I've not warmed to him. Sad fact though. I was in a club a few weeks back and it was really shit tuneless dance music. Then the DJ dropped a remix of 'Easy lover' and I commented 'I've never been so pleased to hear a Phil Collins song'. The only decent Collins tracks I can cope with are Easy lover, Sussudio, and Genesis' Land of confusion, Mama and That's all. The rest, I could glady never hear again.

I can see why people would detest Phil Collins. He would make a more convincing plumber than pop star after all.

"No Son Of Mine" is probably my favourite Collins related tune but also like "Separate Lives", "Can't Hurry Love", "Wish It Would Rain Down", "Jesus He Knows Me", "Two Hearts" and "Something Happened On The Way To Heaven". Loved "Easy Lover" at the time but feel it's a bit dated now.

Even pop music fans seem to have forgotten how massive he was at the time......maybe they prefer it that way?

I like Easy Lover, Something Happened On The Way To Heaven and (of the Genesis tracks) I Can't Dance and That's All. He completely ruined both True Colors and You Can't Hurry Love, though.

There are far more Phil Collins tracks I like than I dont like. Although the good/bad ratio got skewed towards the latter in the 90s.

I don't no why but I feel the same way about Phil Collins as I do The Dire Straits... I think it's a deep seated prejudice I have because of the military town I lived in where artists like these were so popular with the' bits of rough' I knew. Anything more pop was seen as 'Gay' by those guys who liked the more rock stuff. However I do have soft spot for ' In the air tonight' as well as Dire Straits 'Romeo And Juliet'..... I don't know why but both songs can make me feel a bit emotional when I hear them ( I don't own either).
    For ever and ever?

I know what you're saying...at my school it was all Queen (ha, the irony), Quo and Iron Maiden....meat & potatoes rock. My love of Prince got me a reputation, not helped when Pet Shop Boys arrived on the scene. Still, screw them (the idiots at school, not PSB), I had exemplary taste.

I don't mind a bit of rock at all, I've got tons of it in my collection, and as with Mr Collins, I do rate Mark Knopfler highly despite the general anti-Dire Straits feeling that's lingered since the 80s. At the moment, in fact, I have this irrational need to watch Crocodile Shoes (I never saw it at the time), but it's not easily found on DVD (apart from a weird scandinavian import).
