The 'iconic' hits always get killed by being overplayed.

Leave a Light On and (We Want) The Same Thing are the definitive Belinda singles for me.

I'd say Belinda's top tier of singles is comprised of Circle in the Sand, Summer Rain and Leave a Light On. Heaven is for me part of a second tier, along with Mad About You, Runaway Horses and Big Scary Animal.

Heaven suffers from the Bon Jovi rip-off chorus melody a bit, but the verses are great and that middle 8 is just sublime..one of my favourite middle 8s ever. I'd still count it among her top-tier of singles though.

Another iconic track, the first and biggest hit by the ex lead singer of the Go-Go's. I can remember buying this like it was yesterday and i know a certain member who used to obsess about her tits in the video when he was 8- even though he's a big gay now.
    That'll be me.

When you walk into the room you pull me clothes down, we start to move ...

Choon. I always thought the dancers in the video lloked like lots of Madonnas.
    It's = it is/it has. Its = its.

Ha, you had me mentally second-guessing myself with the "and you pull me close" line!

I'd add Live Your Life Be Free to the "first tier" Belinda singles, actually. That was a corker, much like the album it came from. But anyway. This single got 1988 off to a pretty good start, pop-wise. In the US, it was going head to head with stuff like George Michael and Rick Astley..possibly TT D'Arby as well...a very healthy time for pop everywhere.

Novelty record alert. I don't remember this, so obviously my mum didn't buy it for me. Aneka was a stage name, her real name being Mary Sademan. Follow up single flopped and she remains what many people would consider a one hit wonder.

I love Japanese Boy! My mum on the other hand must have bought it! hehe

One of 2 Madonna releases from the Vision Quest soundtrack (the other being Gambler), Madonna's record company opposed this release as they feared it would take attention from the Like A Virgin album- of course it didn't, it just gave the public what they wanted, namely more Madonna. Until late 1990 with the release of The Immaculate collection, this was unavailable on any Madonna album, thereby ensuring high sales. It was re-issued in 1991 in a slightly remixed form and hit number 2 all over again. Gezza, can you give us the combined 85/91 sales please?

I hate Crazy For You. One of the worst Madonna singles of all time!

So you like show tunes? That doesn't mean you're gay. It just means you're AWFUL!!!

I just don't think of 'Crazy for you' AS a Madonna single. It was typical of the 80's 'get big selling pop act to do ballad from a movie soundtrack' and sounds so removed from anything else she's ever done. I don't mind it, but haven't played it in years. At one point, it was supposedly her most loved song by the general public in various polls and stuff, but I doubt that would be the case now.

I adore Crazy for You! I wish she would sing it live again.

    Novelty record alert.
I don't think of this as a novelty record at all. I just think it's AMAZING!!!

Genuinely one of my favourite records of the decade and not even in an ironic way.

The fact that she wore a kimono, drew on slitty eyes and put chopsticks in her hair only adds to it's fabuousness.
Check you lipstick before you come and talk to me.............. Let's go Zi Lin!!!

Crazy For YOu made #25 on my personal chart at the time. I clearly didn't rate the Madonna slowies back then! It's alright, really, a perfectly decent 80s movie ballad and quite endearing in a way. But it still wouldn't be anywhere near my Top 40 Madonna singles.

This is sacrilege! Crazy For You is the ultimate classic Madonna ballad!

Live To Tell bores me to tears apart from the "if I ran away" middle 8, whereas I still love Crazy For You to this day. I am genuinely shocked that you guys don't love it!

And yes, Japanese Boy is amazing.

List of Madonna ballads that are better than Crazy For You:

    ALL OF THEM!!!!!

    One More Chance says hi!

Haha of course I jest. I can't even rememember what One More Chance goes like!

    ENOUGH!!!

Crazy For You remains Madonna's best ballad to this day. Simple, raw, beautiful. I love the grainy smokey muffled quality of the video which matches the production of the song (did she record this in a cupboard or something?).

Although I do like "Oh Father" and "Live To Tell" almost as much......

So strange that a record like this would make it so high on the list. Above many many classics even! It is a great song though.

Thank you! I was starting to think I was cray-cray for loving this so much. I always thought it was one of her best loved songs. I adore her vocals on this. It's just a beautiful song and for me her best ever ballad.

PS Does anyone remember how One More Chance goes?!

  24. #749
Erm... I love One More Chance, it's brilliant.
    Work, work

I like both of those better than Crazy For You. Take A Bow is also far superior.

Although The Power Of Goodbye is the untouchable Madonna ballad for me.
