I'll give 30 Days the benefit of the doubt and say that it's better than a few singles, Notorious being one of them.
Bow to the hands of god.

The answer might be easy to find, but I'm kind of confused as to what's going on with them. Is this the first single to a new album? Are they just releasing singles or...?

  3. #2628
They need to just release singles, since they obviously can't sell albums. Besides, they might finally get a number one someday!

They say it's for their new upcoming album.
In my opinion, they are clearly just releasing the song to say that they are still around (with the big flop that was MHTO and OYR, clearly the general public only associate them to All Fired Up, which was released in September).

Rochelle said they would release the album in the new year. I'm not even sure how they are going to squeeze 3 singles until 2013 considering how short their chartruns are...

It might be like Notorious in terms of its charting, but it's nowhere near it in terms of quality.

That's the kind of ridiculous logic that led to them releasing this piece of mediocrity. I don't care if we don't get the next single until autumn as long as it's a smash. They need to up their game and stop half-arsing their single releases. On Your Radar is an amazing album but it failed to sell, mostly because a) they released a rubbish third single and b) they yet again picked the wrong song as the lead track (plus the ill-advised experiment with on-air-on-sale). What's the point in constantly releasing singles if they all flop or drop like a stone?

  7. #2632
I think they should just release singles and EPs, and at the end, release some sort of singles collection. For some reason (I don't know, but if someone could expand, please do), it's seems the public aren't really into their albums.

I honestly don't really care about them doing well or not. Of course it would be a blast if they could score a Top10 and sit there for at least a month. However we all know this ain't happening anytime soon. Therefore that's why I just care about them releasing new music. I like their voices and having something new every other two months is kind of crucial in my life.

If I were to worry about chart runs and sales I wouldn't be a fan of half the girlbands I like/used to like: Girls Can't Catch, Dolly Rockers, Soundgirl, Parade etc etc.

I still think they should just stick to a Headlines type release once a year. Bang out 8 tracks in July on a 'mini-album' then shove 3 new tracks one in October in time for winter sales with another single that wasn't originally on the 'mini-album' then take 4 months off. The low cost of the 'mini-album'n should hopefully guarantee a few more sales while keeping their studio costs down because they don't need to record nearly as many tracks as they do for a proper 12 (14 with a deluxe edition) album.

Oh I'm not saying fandom should depend on how well an artist performs in the charts - goodness knows enough of my favourite albums were flops! But if they don't do well they're inevitably going to get dropped, and sooner rather than later these days. Plus there's no reason why they shouldn't be doing much better than they are - they have enough amazing material, they just don't utilise it properly.

Surely the idea of them simply never releasing full-length albums isn't feasible? I don't know enough about the financial aspects of the music industry to comment, but if it was possible why aren't other artists doing it? Aside from the fact that it would be hugely embarrassing...

I know it was #16 on yesterday's midweek, but what's today's middweek ? I guess it felt a bit today. Do anyone know ?

  12. #2637
It's still number 19 on iTunes. I thought it would drop to the 30s by now.

They release the midweeks officially on Wednesdays here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/update/singles It's still at #16. It was last week's highest new entry but it's also had one of the biggest drops this week.

  14. #2639
There's 3 new releases in the top 10-15, no ? It's still doing okay in my books. We all knew this single wasn't going to be their best in terms of chartrun/sales.

I just miss the times where they used to promote not only during the first week, but almost everytime and everywhere. I know it was more due to the fact that they were trying to establish themselves, but still.
I also miss the times where radios were actually playing them. The fact that Missing You got #1, but All Fired Up only got to #14 one year later is horrible.

The worst is : it's not like they weren't trying. They are quite often on Radio 1 or Capital for interviews and all.

I'm not really too 'au fait' with what is going on with The Saturdays at the moment, and I could be walking into the lion's den here, but I honestly think that if they want a decent chance at sticking around, they seriously need to take a bit of a step back and take a radically different approach to their career.

What this approach should be, I have no idea! It's a really difficult call to make. All I know is that their current strategy isn't exactly gaining them any new supporters, and they are fast becoming yesterday's news.

I really hope that things work out well for them, because they really are a talented set, and they look great together.
You wanted it, and now you've got it. The latest result of 'The Beyoncé Videos Rate' is now in.

They just need to stop throwing shit at the wall, plan a proper album campaign, and lead it with some decent music. I know everyone things All Fired Up is great, but it's categorical pants. It only seems good because it came after the even worse Notorious. It's not good.

I want them to do well, but they really don't do themselves any favours. They need to stop with the attempts at dance and focus on pop again. Nobody but dance fans buy dance albums, and dance fans aren't going to buy a Saturdays album.

How their management haven't realised this is beyond me, and it's the same reason Alexandra's next LP is going to bomb worse than a hog roast at a Bar Mitzvah.

This is so, so, so wrong!

That's just what you've been duped into thinking. I listen to All Fired Up straight after Up and I weep for the girls.

I was nodding through that whole post except for this bit. I like All Fired Up because it has an amazing production behind it (primarily the chorus), my love for it has nothing to do with the singles released either side of it. I wish it had more words/substance to it but when I'm dancing my arse off to it, I'm not too bothered about the lyrical content anyway.

  21. #2646
All Fired Up is completely and utterly incredible in every way and they will have a huge task on their hands if they ever want to try and top it! Notorious is pretty much Up 2.0, and it was the song that made them interesting!

    (And it's Mollie's favourite.)
Up is where we go from here.

  22. #2647
Wouldn't being Up 2.0 involve having some kind of chorus?
Sixty-nine is the only dinner for two.

  23. #2648
Well although Notorious has an... understated chorus it feels like an evolution of the sound they set up with Up, in the sense that it is miles ahead of that song but still retains that uniquely Saturdays feel. And their choruses are pretty similar anyway!
Up is where we go from here.

  24. #2649
Up is amazing while Notorious only just above average for me.

As for it being Mollie's favourite, their favourites never seem to be consistent. During interviews, they have this habit of using the question as a way of plugging their current single. JUST BE HONEST, we know 30 Days isn't your favourite single, girls.

  25. #2650
Up 2.0 is Ego and 3.0 version is Higher. 4.0 is nowhere to be seen. If Faster was a single it could've been placed right up there with the amazingness of those previously mentioned ones.
