This should be fun!
So excited for this. My taste are too mainstream! Currently have one album in mind though.

Don't worry though, I'll make sure there'll be some time before the first (admission) deadline.
One thing I did wonder is whether I should allow people to give a preference for a genre, or mention 1 or 2 things they réálly don't like, but it might just complicate things, and I suppose if I make sure everyone gets something different every round, they should survive getting one less great CD every now and then..
I'll be disappointed if I get something I've heard before.

I can think of about 5-7 albums in my iTunes that aren't too alternative, but at least 50% will have heard them on here.
"Spit ya fluidest, Bitch..."
To add to this, and this is a purely hypothetical question, say if someone wanted to put forward say a rap album or a metal album what would the stance be on that? Given this is a pop forum.Originally Posted by Mvnl
What about mini albums/EP's that say for example that has 6-8 tracks?
I have a shortlist of 5 albums but I think some might be picked by others or are already heard of.

I'm not sure if I should do something about that (if I even could!).Originally Posted by Mushroom3
I suppose everyone should just remember that there'll be a new batch every ... weeks, so one month will be greater than the other.
I personally wouldn't massively mind a CD I already know.. would surely make the reviewing easier, and if it's one I don't play loads it might be quite rewarding to give it another shot.
Considering you just called yourself too mainstream I am wondering whether 'too alternative' is really thát alternative.Originally Posted by Itty Bitty Piggy
Well, as I mentioned I hope people just go by their guts of 'would I ever discuss this artist or album on here?'. If not it's probably not the most suited choice.Originally Posted by Fire
That said, there are rap albums that are popfriendly enough. Not sure about metal though.
I'm fine with that. Just as long as it isn't basically a single with just 1 or 2 b-sides, but a proper EP. (Most of the times defined by not being named after it's main song which already appeared on another album)Originally Posted by SophiaSophia
Certain metal seems fine to me - Rammstein and Marilyn Manson, say, have had topics here.
Basically your first suitability test should be searching the artist name here. Have they been discussed? How much? In what ways?

It was only a hypothetical question anyway! I'll be sticking to pop for the most part, I'd hate to give someone an album that could get an 'oh fuck no I hate this type of music' reaction.
I'm trying to figure out if I should put the three minute song or the six minute music video on the playlist.
Back from the dead.
If the other three minutes of the music video isn't music then the song, definitely. The idea of the playlist, in my view, is to start it and let it run - dead time in a video isn't going to help in getting into an album.

Frankly, that can happen with any kind of pop as well!Originally Posted by Fire

To answer a question Itty Bitty Piggy just PMed: kinda alternative artists who technically make pop but don't get discussed a whole lot on here are still perfectly fine for this. It would be hard to find an album by an act that gets discussed lóáds, yet has material not everyone knows though and through.
I'd say pretty much all the 500+ acts that made the Ultimate Compilation list are suited.
The whole idea of this, besides hopefully discovering some great new music, is listening to things you otherwise might never bother to give a shot!
Im about to start new topic soon too. It'll be something involving debate on personalities of popstars. Where should i open this? Off topic section?
I'm definitely up for this.
I was torn about this topic as well.. part of me thinks it might be more suited for the 'lists' section, but then this topic is going to be discussing several albums, and there won't really be any 'lists', so it did feel more Pop&Justice to me (unless that subforum is mainly for News.. I can't really tell myself..)Originally Posted by All6Sugababes
If it involves popstars I wouldn't say Off Topic. If it's 'name likeable popstars' it's more of a List thing I suppose.. it depends on the angle, really.
It'll be kinda game so i think i will choose off topicOriginally Posted by Mvnl
Maybe I'm being really thick but do we know who's album it is we recieve?
"Ardent Rihanna mud-slinger"
No. The more mystery the better, plus I wouldn't want people's judgement to get clouded thinking 'oh, I don't like him, not going to bother with this one..'.Originally Posted by Mushroom3
Also, I forgot to say, but a thread about popstar's personalities is not going to end well.
Dont worry it should be rather a fun game than judging themOriginally Posted by RJF
