Whilst I loathe a spoiler it would seem to me to be common sense not to read this thread until you've read all of the books. It's not as if they're not readily available and even the title thread warns of their existence.

Check you lipstick before you come and talk to me.............. Let's go Zi Lin!!!
This is receiving stellar reviews from critics, which I'm extremely happy about.
Currently, it holds 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, which will change a bit when further reviews come out, but still.
Really, really happy that they seem to have done this exciting book more than justice. I cannot wait to see it now.

The capital 'E' means I'm 'bout that life.
Just ordered tickets for me and my friend for the premiere this Wednesday. So excited!
Booking tickets for me and my friends tomorrow for Friday, excited is not the word!

I just watched the trailer again on my TV with the lights turned off and the volume all the way up and I nearly wet myself. I am beyond myself with excitement you guys!!
Ugh my friend just organised a birthday party for this Friday night, so now I have to wait until Saturday to see this, how inconsiderate of him!
Cannot wait! Haven't been this excited for a movie since Harry Potter 7.5.
Let's raise hell in the streets drink beer and get into trouble..heavy metal lovaa!
Some people are so selfish jk. You should ask him to change the date of the party (I would).

Can't believe I'm seeing this tomorrow! Beyond myself! Also a good incentive to go study tonight and hit the gym tomorrow because then the film will be a 'reward' so to speak. EXCITING!!
Oh by the way, expect a full meltdown post tomorrow, I'll probably be wetting myself all night.
Preordered my tickets for Friday. Super excited, hope it lives up to the reviews and more importantly my own imagination.
Good point. It might be a good idea to move this to General Off Topic, then, seeing as this is the Movies section of the forum. We can always make a new thread to discuss the film. There's bound to be differences anyway.Originally Posted by Baby Clyde
I just got the soundtrack as preparation for seeing the movie tomorrow and ugh, it's amazing.
It was really good!!
Some details didn't exactly match the book, which annoyed me a bit. But overall they actually followed the books pretty well. Just an example, but the mayor's daughter (from whom she received the Mockingjay pin in the book) wasn't in this at all. I understand they can't include anything but it irked me a bit.
Might just have been because I'm exhausted though, then you get annoyed more easily. Noisy people around me got on my nerves as well, I was so anxious. I think when I get the DVD and rewatch this, it'll be properly amazing because it's a really great film.
Have fun everyone!
I'm glad everyone has really positive things to say about the film.
I'm dying to see it but I can't stand noisy people and it's bound to be busy pretty much whenever I go. I don't know whether to just wait until it gets a bit quieter or not.
Just got back!
As far book-to-movie conversions go it was among the very best. (SO MUCH better than all that other "teenage stuff" like Harry Potter or Twilight.)
I was totally into it. The director nailed it. (He also directed 'Pleasantville' so it's what's expected.)
I loved the realism of the scenes in District 12. The whole reaping scene is beautifully done. Not overdone Hollywood bullshit with strings.
The only things I didn't like were :
- How easily the black guy from District 11 coud kill that one girl.
- The way they always cut back to Gale when something Katniss-Peeta happened.
- The last few scenes were a bit fast-ish done but understandably so with the time constraints.
All in all they left out the worst parts of the book (ex. the way the dogs were mutated to have the dead people's faces) and kept the best things and made them even better. (Stanley Tucci k-i-l-l-e-d it, as did Jennifer of course.)
Really pleased with it.
Can't wait to see it again.
note : I was also surprised how most part of the audience didn't seem to have read the books. Also, the audience consisted of at least 50% dudes. Pleased and surprised.
Ah that's brilliant. Reviews seem to be really positive across the board. Was the theatre full? I'm so excited for this!

Not long got back.
It's how I imagined it for the most part. I agree about the mutated dogs... they just looked like big... mountain dogs is the best way to describe it.
I liked how, for all they missed out alot of the start of the story, they managed to put it in as kind of flash backs?
Rue's death was spot on. The whole room fell silent, you could hear a pin drop.
Overall I loved the film. What was missed out and what was included (such as how the controlled the arena) was perfect.
The theatre was packed.Originally Posted by jk-ennedy

Although, I live in Belgium, so it takes a long time for things to become hugely popular here.
I don't think the books have been much of a phenomenon outside of the US yet. The films will probably kickstart things, I do think it's weird though that a lot of people prefer to watch a film adaptation and then read the books after rather than read the books and then watch the film. I understand that one is quicker and easier than the other but if I enjoy a film, reading the book can be a bit of a chore since I know the overall plot whereas seeing a book adapted into a film doesn't have that problem.
I read the series over the last few days and I want to see the film, the trailer makes it look fantastic and also remarkably close to the novel (my only complaint would be that Gale and especially Peeta look nothing like I imagined), but our local cinema doesn't get it until May. This is what I get for living in Wales.
<<<PARTIAL SPOILER FOR THIRD BOOK>>>
Is Buttercup in the film?
There's a bit in the third book involving him and Katniss that reduced me to a sobbing mess, and even though that film's a long way off I really don't want to see it on screen ever, so I actually wouldn't mind at all if they've cut him.
I thought I had it but I tumbled...
I really enjoyed it. They got so, so much right. The use of flashbacks and scenes of the Gamemakers controlling everything were a fantastic way of portraying things that were only ever said in Katniss' narrative. I was amazed that the Arena scenes were so faithful to the book, albeit in an abridged way. The Capitol looked like Theed and Coruscant from Star Wars too.
I wasn't a fan of Haymitch, though. He was far too preened and well dressed for the part. There was no real transition from drunken mess to mentor, which was a big part of the book. I also hated the way they turned Prim into such a wuss. Apart from the reaping scene she's meant to be much more competent for her age, what with everything she's been through.
Peeta looks alarmingly like Chesney from Coronation Street. And one of the tributes looked like Sophie Webster. That was weird.
It isn't a "thing" here yet. It's going to happen, though. There were only four of us in the cinema when I saw it today. I'm not complaining, though. I love when it's empty.Originally Posted by Scaper
Do you live in a small town and/or was it daytime? Without even going, I know my local Odeon is bound to have been packed.
A seaside town, 6pm. It'll be different in the cities of course.Originally Posted by Scaper
