I'm shocked there isn't a thread on this. It's poised to be the next series to take over from Twilight.
The trailer for the first film has just premiered today.

The Hunger Games is a trilogy of books. I suggest reading them because they're very good.

I am very very very excited about this. They better not fuck this one up!

I've also added a book spoiler warning to the thread's title since I'm guessing most people talking about it now have read the books and that way it doesn't get spoiler for those who haven't.

The trailer looks pretty much spot on and I can't wait to see if they can translate that same thrilling feeling of the books onto the screen! Haymitch's hair is a bit what the fuck though.

That trailer looks so amazing. I have been very disappointed with books 2 (in part) and 3, but I'm still looking very much forward to this.

Great job not showing too much while still getting people interested. And perfect casting as well (Katniss, the two boys, Effie and Lenny Kravitz).

I've only read the first book, which I thought was great, but it didn't leave me with a huge desire to read the other two.

It's a good trailer though, it's amazing these days to have a 2:30 trailer without spoiling everything, yet they manage it.
    Meet your new stepmom, kid.

Yeah, don't. I guess they'll fix a lot of the issues for the films.

The district doesn't look how I imagined it. I kind of imagined it to look like a very run down industrial Diagon Alley. Not a nice town. Also the electric fence, i thought it was supposed to be difficult to get through or something?

It's going to be interesting to see how they do the parade of the tributes.
I'm also dreading Rue's death scene, they better not fuck that up.

    Loved the first book.
    The other two were....ok.

The trailer doesn't excite me THAT much.

The trailer really excites me and I havn't even read the books yet!Think at this point I might just watch the film first and then if I like it continue with the books. It definitely seems like it will be the next Harry Potter/Twilight fandom!

Definitely read the book first! It's such a thrilling read and it just won't be the same when you've seen it all played out on screen before!

I'd be interested if it wasn't for all of the Twilight comparisons. I could only get through one of those movies and it made me hate the world just a little bit more.

The Twilight comparison is just in terms of it being the new 'hot franchise'. It's got about as much to do with Twilight as those films with Harry Potter.

The Twilight comparisons make approximately zero sense. They have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

Battle Royale is an obvious influence, however. I really enjoyed Book 1. I still have to read Book 2 & 3.

I recently read all three books in the trilogy and they're phenomenal. You can't put them down. I also really like the Taylor Swift song for the first movie.

So yeah, I'm really excited for this as well.

I needed these books in my life after the unfortunate conclusion to the greatest series ever written (Harry Potter), and they did not disappoint. Mockingjay was quite slow throughout the beginning, but that ending made up for it tenfold.

There was a second trailer released.
Not as good as the first one.

I just realised this comes out on the 21st in Belgium.
2 days before the American release.
    SO EXCITED!!

I don't think i've ever read such a top heavy trilogy. The first book is totally brilliant and by all rights deserves to be a spectacular film, but Catching Fire and Mockingjay are two of the most appallingly written books i've ever read in my life.

Mockingjay in particular will be wholy stupid film. Katniss watches TV. Katniss wakes up in hospital. Katniss films TV. Katniss wakes up in hospital. Katniss endures hazily written finale. Katniss wakes up in hospital.

And they're splitting it into two? Christ on a bike.

    OH MY GOD.

The end of Chapter 24 of the third book is the biggest shock I've ever had from reading a book. I actually gasped quite loudly. AWFUL. (I know the thread title says 'book spoilers' but this is such an advanced one I don't think it'd be right spoiling it)

But seriously I am SHOCKED! These films can't come soon enough!

  23. #23
Chapter 25, possibly even more shocking. And it's not even the final chapter yet. Did this woman study at the university of Shocking Plots Twists or what?!

Has anyone here finished the third book yet?

I just read a summary since it's written in the style of a six year old. I really do hope they change the whole story for film 3 (and 4).

Way to kill the fun. Why did you even bother reading the summary, you could have kept it a surprise for the movies! Besides, if you just read a summary I think the story seems very abstract and you can easily pick things out you think need changing. But I believe the books do build op the tension and atmosphere brilliantly and every plot twist comes as a genuine shock.

Look at me getting all defensive, I might be a bit obsessed with this series!
