Saw this last night, it was fantastic. I had no idea who the person in the credits was until my boyfriend explained it to me though. Are they well known and I was just lost?

I saw this yesterday and was not impressed. It was very boring, even though something exploded all the time. I have to say though that I'm not a big superhero fan in general, so that may explain it. The scene with Hulk and Thor was funny though.
01 The Tension And The Spark 02 Happiness 03 Very
My friend was so bored watching this, but I had a great time.
Annie, if you're reading this...please know that I want your EP right now!
Why was Spiderman not included? He's Marvel, right?
"The Avengers" has grossed $441.5 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total to an estimated $648 million in just 12 days. That's more than the lifetime totals of "Iron Man," "Iron Man 2" -- until this weekend, the 2010 film was Marvel's top grossing release with $624 million -- "Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger."
Holllllllllllllllllllllly shit.
Spiderman and X-men are with different movie companies. X-men and Wolverine are with Fox, I know that. I think Disney/Marvel are looking to buy them back though.
Spider-man is with Sony and they will never ever sell the rights back to Marvel. But X-men and Wolverine should be brought back to Marvel. Please Fox DO IT.
Also I'm so glad that The Avengers are doing great job at the box office and threatening to surpass what The Dark Night did. All hail to Marvel. hehehehe
˝She is a sexy, bionic woman, and every damn one of you will deal as she shits on your faves.˝ BEST FICTION.
Saw this last night and I absolutely loved it. They finally made the Hulk interesting! What it really needed was a female with decent powers, bring on Carol Danvers or Scarlet Witch in the next one please!
I thought it was pretty great, if totally mindless.
They totally got the Hulk right ("Hulk. . .smash!" and of course the laugh out loud moments of Hulk punching Thor and tossing Loki around like a rag doll), but I think the key is just how sparingly he was used up until the final third of the film. It got to the point where there was actually some real drama about whether or not he would turn into the Hulk when SHEILD was attacked (Scarlett was great in that scene too).
They meshed the heroes together really well, from Iron Man's (Downey far more tolerable here than Iron Man 2, which was a great surprise) sarcasm, to the reassuring goodness of Captain American, with Thor comfortable somewhere in the middle. Jeremy Renner had virtually nothing to do though, which is unfortunate. Scarlett totally made sense here in a way she never did in Iron Man 2, and I don't know what it is, but Joss Whedon seems to have an amazing ability to write women heroes confidently enough to make them both sexy and kickass. You'd think after the massive success of this movie Marvel would beg him to make a Ms. Marvel movie or some other female hero they could add to the Avengers to keep the series going.
That's another question I have - how long can they keep this core group of actors together? I mean, no doubt they locked in Evans and Hemsworth for most of their adult lives (I believe I read once that Marvel signed Evans with an option of up to nine appearances in Marvel films), but you wonder how long Robert stays in the game, or even Scarlett, who despite her youth doesn't seem like a "franchise girl" for the long haul. I hope Marvel really works on developing new projects for their other characters to keep things fresh in the long haul.
As for the 'now' though, it was a really fun film.
Meet your new stepmom, kid.
The only one I really see as essential for the next couple of Avengers movies is Samuel Jackson... give him a dramatic death in the third movie and replace him with the understudy we see in #2 and #3.
I'm also a bit worried that this could be too star studded, though they can all be replaced with other Marvel characters I guess.
I read Black Widow is getting her own film at some point, totally excited about that.
I'm just hopelessly in love with Loki
Black Widow was the big surprise for me. They wrote her exactly how I always thought a female superhero should be portrayed. Confident, absolutely kick-ass, and sexy without being sexualized. I figured she'd stick out like a sore thumb with no real superpowers or gadgets, but she owns every scene she's in. That tete-a-tete with Loki, the chair fight scene... oh my, she was fabulous.
I loved pretty much everything about this movie. It seemed like a cash grab and after Iron Man 2 I was expecting a lifeless ego trip, but this was on par with The Dark Knight (but in a totally different way). I loved how every character had a real arc, and I mean every character. And they played them all off each other, both in characterization and power ability. That fight scene in the forest, having the Marvel Trinity basically at a stand-off, amazing.
"Is there such a place as Indo-China?" - Nadine Coyle.
What an awful, awful film. The dialogue seemed to be written by a toddler, it was even worse than Transformers 3 (and that was BAD). Also, how ridiculous did Loki look?! Me and my friend actually laughed when we first saw him. We were really laughing out loud several times when things were supposed to be serious. The only reason I didn't walk away was because of Scarlett, she's amazing! And it's not like I'm not a fan of super hero movies, Iron Man and X-Men belong to my favourite films but this was terrible.

I know its your opinion and all, but it's just wrong.
I don't even know where to start...
I'm about to drown in the ocean.
I wasn't like BLOWN AWAY or anything but objectively it is not a bad movie.
Unfortunately 'bad' or 'good' are never objective. Based on what? Production value?
I just think it sucked but I accept that most people love it, not a problem.
The dialogue was witty and sharp; granted people in real life don't speak as they do, but when are superheroes and aliens considered real life? It fit the tone of the movie perfectly. Confident, vibrant and nostalgic; a real comic book film through and through.
It's pretty much the polar opposite of Chris Nolan's Batman; that's how you do superheroes in the real world. But frankly, I think The Avengers (and Marvel in general) would be pretty dull with that approach.

Witty and sharp? I'm not sure we watched the same film, haha. Also, I'm really not against 'dramatization' (over-the-top-ness) in films because I love X-Men which is just as ridiculous. But this just didn't work for me. The ultimate cringe moment was when the Hulk punched Thor. Everyone in the theater roared with laughter. I nearly cringed myself to death.
Awful. But then again, life's no fun if everyone has the same opinions, someone's gotta hate!
Er, why?! That bit was amazing. I struggle to see how anyone would hate on that; pure slapstick comedy.
Witty and sharp in the sense that everyone had some wits about them and the 'banter' was funny. But yeah, you're right, I'm just glad I'm not the one doing the hating!

I tried to watch the first 2 X-men films yesterday and compared to the Avengers they're like episodes of Holby City
I loved the movie, it was great. Funny, exciting, and oh so very comic book-y.
I prefer Chris Evans as Johnny Storm though.
I'll always love the first two X-Men films but after the third one mucked things up I really wish they'd rebooted the X-Men movies instead of Spider-Man. We still could've got First Class, but with Cyclops and Angel instead of Havok and Angel Salvadore.
First Class really is brilliant. It was my favourite; before this came around.
