I was disappointed by them tonight. The past two weeks have been disappointing in fact.
I want fun, neon, urban Little Mix with choreography, their first song tonight was a bit of a mess. Baby last week did it better and I don't want them going down some retro route.
I'm about to drown in the ocean.
With last week being about guilty pleasures and this week Motown, I doubt the song choices really reflect the direction they'll be taking as a band.
We need colorful Little Mix back. The Little Mix in I'm Like A Bird and Super Bass. They need to go back to that to show how much they improved in the upbeat department. I agree, the latest themes did not really suit them that's why I appreciate that they did their best.
They should be in the finals. A Wembley finals without Little Mix? Blah.

Exactly, and this is my argument for why themes should be scrapped, but there ya go.Originally Posted by Mvnl
However themed weeks did little to stop them in the past. It would've been nice to have maybe seen a Motown song get the Little Mix treatment.

It would. Or see a modern song get the motown treatment (there's an amazing motown mix of Single Ladies on YouTube). But they'd need to get the rules clear for that, cause inOriginally Posted by RobR
both cases I could see judges complaining.
I do like the themes, mainly because some acts would become more than boring if they could stay completely in their comfort zone each week.. Of course getting out of it doesn't always work, but in some cases it does in fact lead to surprisingly great performances that might make the team and perhaps even contestant realize 'this direction might be worth giving a shot'!
But really, if you're creative enough it should not be that hard to stick to a theme while still showing what you're capable of and keeping your own identity.
I'm guessing Tulisa wanted to avoid any song/theme criticisms following Little Mix's rock week performance. They could get away with it to some extent back when we had flotsam like Sami and Sophie in the competition, but with just four acts left, anything remotely dodgy like that will be totally ripped apart by the other judges.Originally Posted by Mvnl
It's a pity because "Tik Tok"/"Push It" is a really great performance if you cast aside the theme for that week, but in the original context it was a bit laughable.
The two performances were really a let-down from them and I think Tulisa knew it. They were not weak or anything, they were actually great, but they were just the least good act.
However, and am I the only one to think it's a bit pathetic from Tulisa ? I mean "Vote for them, they deserved to be in the final." ala Louis, would have been pretty okay. No, she needed it to pull out everything from the bag. It was just a bit...desperate to my eyes.
That said, they won't be in the bottle 2. They have an amazing fanbase and after that drama scene from Tulisa, it's pretty sure they will be save.
They absolutely deserve to be saved. Really were amazing tonight. If I Were A Boy was just unbelievable, seriously can't think of another UK girl band ever, that could've delivered those vocals live. Worried for them.
Although, part of me just wants them to go out & get there record contract, and do their thing
That chubby guy from Take That was so harsh on Little Mix. Their If I Were A Boy performance was one of their best performances. It showed how Perrie, Jade and especially Leigh-Anne are great vocalists! Jesy starting and ending the song were the perfect parts for her to sing.

Jade tweeted that they will rap and beatbox next week! So they're going back their original sound for the final. Need to get them there!
Should any Little Mix fan really go around calling other people "chubby" after their tear-stained VTs on the subject? Their first song was poor and apart from them forgetting the words twice, it had no energy which is ironic considering it was a Supremes song. The second song was even worse and showed they were out of tune for most of it.Originally Posted by hitori
I'm not really interested in the debate about lead singers but last night showed Jesy (I will resist the urge to call her the "chubby one") really isn't a strong enough vocalists for songs like that. They may not need a lead singer but they do need to be smarter about which lines they give each member to sing.

I can agree that for the competition they need to be clever about who gets what lines, it doesn't mean it will translate to how they will be split on the records. JLS did that with Aston doing most of the leads during the show.
I swear I heard them say that a few weeks ago.Originally Posted by Shychild90

They seem to have a dedicated fanbase, I'm sure they'll be left until last to be called (For the drama) but I have faith they'll get through.
i think its what they want as well, its interesting in her tweet it says they will be back to themselves, i think they have been uncomfortable the last two weeks and probably been pushed in that direction by the producers to create the classic x factor performance, hence forgetting what we all fell in love with in the first placeOriginally Posted by RobR
Did Perrie forget her words on the first song too, watching it back i can't understand what she is trying to sing!

Nope I think she just struggled with the low part of the song.Originally Posted by wizzywow

I think the title for this year is between them and Amelia. Back to present time, I'll be so damn happy if they'll make it to the finals!

Just re-watched If I Were A Boy and almost started crying. I'm getting too attached, they sounded so damn good. Perrie on that last chorus, flawless.
I do have a feeling the harmonies are partially mimed. Still the solos were very decent as well, and it's not like many girl groups out there don't use a little help.
Of course they use a backing track. It's been very audible on some of their numbers and it's why Gary was pushing for them to do a stripped back performance.Originally Posted by Mvnl

I do think that Tulisa/the producers are pushing the girls into performances outside their comfort zone. Little Mix can sing but they don't have the vocal chops to do songs like Beautiful and If I Were a Boy. On a positive note I know two people who were so incensed by Gary's comments that they voted for the girls.
For me, Leigh-Anne really shined in If I Were A Boy. She can hit high notes too but they're better for soulful numbers. I love that part where she and Perrie were looking at each other when their lines where following each other up.

I think they nailed If I Were A Boy. There were no bad vocals, and they hit all the notes. I'd say they've certainly got it in them to do big numbers like that.
