I am from the UK and absolutely detested Jedward until Eurovision. By the time it was over I had warmed to them hugely.

Best career move yet for them. I'm not sure how this year will pan out it all depends on the song.

Can anyone give a quick summary of which countries have already chosen/what stage they are at/what are the confirmed entries?

    The Irish songs!

Edit: I feel bad saying this, but so far Donna MacCaul's song > Jedward's song...

For sure Donna & Jedward > the others BY FAR though!

Jedward = terrible!! SO disappointing. After Lipstick, then a really quite excellent album, this is just total tripe.

Donna MacCaul is almost passable, but all these are incredibly weak.

I think I unironically love Jedward's track. Fucking hell, they need to stop pulling this!

Couldn't agree more. Lipstick was just AMAZING, it stood out in a sea of mediocrity & the album was decent. Something like Everyday Superstar would have been a great ESC entry this year. Waterline doesn't hold any interest for me, it's like a bad version of 'When You're Looking Like That' and that was a rubbish song to begin with. I much prefer Donna's song, i'm gutted because I love Jedward and wanted to love their Eurosong entry.

I've been listening to the Jedward track all day and am slightly in love with it. It is a rehash of One Direction/Busted/When You're Looking Like That, and it's lacking a decent bridge, but it's still catchy as hell and bloody good!
I was lost til I heard the drums then I found my way...

    Songs and performer already unveiled:
Denmark, Malta, Switzerland, Albania, Cyprus, France.
Tonight (Sat.) Hungary, Iceland and Norway will be added to the list.
More details of where we're at with all the countries are at: http://allkindsofeverything.ie/Baku12grid.htm

I like this a lot, a contender. The singer is quite pleasant to look at.

Norway, Iceland and Hungary all chose very well tonight; all three are better than pretty much anything sent last year.

Although I find the Icelandic guy more pleasant to look at than the Norwegian.

Haha, I love how if you're gay(?)/camp/clearly-not-a-'lad' and an Arab, you are pretty much destined to rock Eurovision. Sarbel, Eric Saade and now this...

He actually looks like a Persian guy I went to school with.

EDIT: Sigh, he is Persian. I should have known from the gyrating (Arab men will never shake their hips unless they happen to be me).

Oh God it's so addictive. Not even good addictive, just awful-but-strangely-satisfying-a-la-Pixie-Lott-Kiss-The-Stars addictive.

Norway's my pick of the three chosen tonight, but like jruk says all three picked well. Just glad that Ola Nordman didn;t walk it like most people thoguht.

That Icelandic song is gonna be good when (if?) it gets translated, and I think the Hungarian song is good is studio form, the live version has yet to completely win me around.

All in all a good night for the Scandis, Sweden got it 75% right with their results and two strong enteries from Norway and Iceland

Can I have links for all these songs please? I've only seen Norway which is seems to be a camp boy doing an Eric Saade type affair.....

  15. #165
I love the way Norway's results are revealed. It starts off all orderly, 2,000 - 8,000 points, and then they just start calling out random numbers (I know they're not random, but you get my point). Very unpredictable. Great result from Norway tonight, the best of their finalists for sure.

Fantastic! Great song and performance. Surely an upbeat electro-tinged pop song could never win though?

Should definitely give them a good result though.

Only slight problem with the Norwegian song (which I love) is the same-old Eric problem of Tooji relying on pre-recording backing vocals and having that many dancers. Although he's only got 4 dancers on stage with him in the national final, none of them sang a note. Cut to Eurovision and six-on-a-stage and all live vocals... and I wonder if it may go a little bit wrong.

They've time to figure that out, and at least they're not going to have to spend half their time worrying about glass breaking... but it'll be interesting seeing how it translates.

Studio version of Hungary's entry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwqrTPXjc1w
The singer sounds (and looks) a lot better in real life than he did in Saturday's finals, so I hope this is going to sound better in Baku.
Out of all the local entries, this one was the most popular http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuFWtgBE31E I prefer Compact Disco, though.

    Belarus have chosen -

The young and beautiful Alena Lanskaya will defend Belarus at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in May. Alena won the 2012 Eurofest final today with the song All my life.

    TERRIBLE.

Apparently that Belarus lady has stated that she wants to change the song so it won't be the one she won with. Why Belarus bother with a NF is beyond me sometimes...

Quedate conmigo is my favourite. I love it actually. About time Spain sent a ballad. Don't think they've sent one since the 90s have they?

So, the German preselection is down to two songs by two singers. I really want the female contestant to win, her song is not nearly as abysmal as the male contestant's one (though still nothing to write home about), but if the male contestant wins it's last place. Knowing how my favourites usually do in these kind of competitions, it's going to be the male contestant we send to Baku. What an embarrassment after two very good years.

Looking back on last year, it's Lena's "Taken By A Stranger" that i listen to the most now. It's definitely my favourite from 2011 besides Lipstick. Looking forward to hearing the German entry.

  25. #175
Yes. I only grew to love "Taken By A Stranger" in hindsight. It was so different from "Satellite" and I admire their bravery for going ahead with something that differed that greatly from what made her win the contest the first time around. It might be my favourite song Germany has submitted - ever.

Anyway, after last year's high we hit a new low. Of course the male contestant won. This is our entry:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsmSgkdVCyk

Boring, MOR, riskless rubbish (produced by Jamie Cullum no less) sung by a young boy without any stage presence.

This is the other song that was in the finale:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktiKB0V6Uv4

I like her tone a lot.
