Unspoken expectations. Ideals you used to play with. They've finally taken shape for us.
The middle eight for Leona's Broken is quite something, no?
"There's nughging left inside, ooooohhhhhOOOOOOHHoooooh ssaaaaaave me"
Born to run, get ahead of the rest.
I wish Leona Lewis had sung He About To Lose Me.
So if you're lonely, you know I'm here waiting for you...
I loathe Mel B's final chorus in 'Viva Forever'.
"Ardent Rihanna mud-slinger"
Oooo, Leona on Euphoria would be magical.
"Ben, I love to hear you say that you love me, with words so sweet. And I love the way with just one whisper, you tell me everything"
She has the right amount of power in her voice for that.
"I do not care about critics, too, I care for my ears basically." - vas
Taylor Swift's 'Enchanted' is so fucking incredible.
"Ardent Rihanna mud-slinger"
People often deem her writing clichéd but that song just nails those universal feelings so well; pretty much anybody can relate to that middle eight at some point.
"Ardent Rihanna mud-slinger"
The only T. Swift song I like.
"I do not care about critics, too, I care for my ears basically." - vas
Yes about Enchanted being perfect. Last Kiss is very underrated on here though.
They are my favorites from Speak Now. Teardrops On My Guitar, White Horse, and Breathe are my other favorites.
"Enchanted" doesn't really move away from any of the clichés that Taylor frequently gets dragged up for, but what it does more than any other song in her back catalogue is become utterly universal. Her songwriting always leans to the sweeter side and is very much in her own head, but here it's all so much more relatable. Summoning the feeling of those butterflies in your stomach, the dazzling wonderment of clicking with someone so much, and of course the shameful desperation of hoping that they can be yours and only yours.
I don't have much time for Taylor is everyone knows, but it's a perfectly executed song.
The Owl City cover/response is, of course, a laughable abomination.
I think most of her songs are universal. She always gets the feeling of the songs right some examples.
In Haunted the frantic production shows how everything in the relationship could just break in any second and knowing the other person is falling out of love with you but not really knowing what to do.
Last Kiss is absolute sadness after the anger part of breakup has pasted. It's where you really admit that you miss the person and just breakdown. The middle eight here is probably my favorite thing she has have ever written.
Totally here for Taylor discussion.
What works best about Speak Now over Fearless as an album is that the sound began to really be shaped around the lyrics. As mentioned, Enchanted has brilliant lyrics, but the sound is mesmerizing as well. Haunted literally sounds like the death of a relationship, and that agony of being torn apart by someone who has let go is so perfectly fitted to the frantic strings. Better Than Revenge has the most aggressive sound on the album, equal to the most aggressive Taylor has ever been in a song in her discography. The Story of Us provides a total sugar rush with the same urgency anyone feels when trying to avoid every glance and acknowledgment of someone they've had a falling out with. You could hear the drop of a pin throughout most of Last Kiss, with Taylor's vocals over such a bare beat until the bridge, which really doesn't swell too much aside from her voice. But it's Dear John that takes the cake. The whole song is this glacial piece of art, really. The climax is so slow, spread out over nearly four minutes, that you don't even realize that on Dear John's bridge, it literally feels like a match being lit in the dark of night in a ghost town, just to build and build until it's like a burning sun filling the empty night sky.
Janet.
"Please don't be in love with someone else, Please don't have somebody waiting on you..." is just utterly heartbreaking and completely captures that feeling of lust and wanting another person but being worried they are already taken and run the risk of having your heart broken.

"Spit ya fluidest, Bitch..."
I think Innocent doesn't get enough love. It's not as good as Enchanted, but the middle-8 and last chorus are perfection. Long Live is flawless too. Discussing Speak Now is making me so excited for the 4th album!
Also out of the 3 songs that recently received a lot of hype before premiering (Wings, Blow Me, You Bring Me Joy), Amelia Lily's is the only one that actually deserved some. Listening to Wings is a chore (I want to like it so much though) and Blow Me irritates me.
