    I don't care about Ashanti.

But, holy shit is "Only U," a tuuuuuuuuuuuuuuune. To this day I still love it.

Only U is her greatest moment. Admittedly she has about three good songs across all of her albums, but at least she will always have that, and Gaga stealing hairstyling tips from her Good Good video.

  4. #10379
Yeah well Gaga's career will be over just as quick as Ashanti's!!!

  5. #10380
They're still using that lost , amazing Boyfriend video that was never released in the adverts for Bieber's album. Surely this is just rubbing it in our faces now ?

  6. #10381
Don't worry mate it's only bloody Justin Beiber!!

  7. #10382
It's the principle goddammit ! We can't have popstars running around thinking they can get away with stuff like this, it's as if Britney teased the Slave 4 U video, and then unveiled a completely family friendly "hugs by the warm Christmas fire" video.

Come to think of it, that sounds like an amazing concept for Slave...

    I forget my orginal point.

Then again, it's pointless for me to argue because I know that half this board thinks good music only existed after 2005. *shrugs*
I agree with this. Fair enough there was also some crap in the 90s. But it's not like there isn't plenty of absolute rubbish around these days that all sounds the same.

'Only U' is one of those songs that's so good I feel the shit artist behind it has no right to have delivered it to us. It's not that I want somebody else to have sang 'Only U' because it's basically perfect as it is, I just don't know how it came into the hands of such a shit artist (I have no idea how much of a hand she had in """""co-writing""""").

See also: Cheryl's 'Promise This' and Justin Bieber's 'Boyfriend'.

Oh, I agree completely. I was talking about the glut of "LOOK HOW SQUEAKY CLEAN I AM! LOOK HOW PERFECTLY IN SYNC THIS DANCE ROUTINE IN FRONT OF MY LOCAL MILKSHAKE BAR IS! LOOK HOW MY SWEETHEART IS PICKED OUT AN A&F CATALOGUE!" kind of pop that was just all kinds of awful. I would actually blame that for my coming rather late to the pop party in my life.

Really? I mean, ok, Ashanti Shequoiya is now synonomous with being basic/a victim of Beyonceitis, but she did serve up some good tunes back in the day.

"Only U" and "Foolish" plus features on "Always On Time" and "What's Luv?".... all four great songs. The rest of her music not so much, but still.

    NOOOO!

I don't give a shit whether this sounds awful or not, but I am so glad that I had all of that wonderfully cheesy pop as a child. It was phenomenal!
All of the birthday parties... the jelly and ice-cream, with Steps, S-Club, Britney and the Spice Girls all booming in the background. I don't think I would've preferred to have been a child in any other era! The 60s would've been quite fun, but even still.

I don't care if the time produced the cheesiest, most artificially-happy pile of manufactured, gaudy music the world has ever seen. It made me feel so damn happy, and is so deeply engrained into most of the best memories from my childhood that I will not have a word said against it. Completely wouldn't work today - today's children have 'S&M'.

As a teenager, I perhaps would've hated it. But I wasn't. I was the perfect audience for it, and completely lapped it up. And I don't even mind, because some of it was actually great music, with or without the perfect Americana diners.

I shall now drift off to sleep, humming 'Say You'll Be There', and thinking of tight, red catsuits and more crop-tops than you can shake a Gameboy Colour at.
You wanted it, and now you've got it. The latest result of 'The Beyoncé Videos Rate' is now in.

Yeah, I'm glad I was apart of the teen-pop wave, when it was happening it didn't seem cheesy, it just was a natural reaction to the time. I mean look at what the younger generation of stars get away with today, Britney, Christina, Mandy etc couldn't even wear a crop top without causing controversy. They sang and presented themselves in a manner that was deemed appropriate, it may comes off as cheesy now, but back then it was fucking amazing.
"Ben, I love to hear you say that you love me, with words so sweet. And I love the way with just one whisper, you tell me everything"

Correct. 'Only U' is, against all odds, amazing. Even more amazing is its "intro" ('Message to the Fans'). She basically makes this Darth Vader-meets-sub-Marilyn-Monroe voice, and effectively finds a way to both make me laugh hysterically and creep me the fuck out.

"kaaaaah i want to thank u .... love... ASHANTIIIIII kaaaaah, etc."

What do you think of Ashanti's voice fancygreen?

I think she definitely grew in her later years.

Ja Rule and Ashanti 'Always On Time' is flawless. And Fat Jo's 'What's Luv'.

Oh come on, Ashanti's continued contribution to pop music is something we can all appreciate. I mean, her latest album cover for instance:

fff;;f;f;;ffff....it's the random-ass braid through the forehead that gets me.

And Foolish is a 10/10 jam, let's not beat around the bush.
Yeah because Lady Gaga is the only pop star of this generation to have an iconic anthematic song. California Gurls says hi. *Eye roll*

  20. #10395
I like how Ashanti's albums contain random tracks from other artists on that Murder Inc label, and clips of her little sister screaming her head off. So selfless.

Plus Good Good is so good they named it twice.

Baby and Rain On Me are flawless. Foolish, Rescue Me, Still On It and Only U are Ashanti's only other decent songs.
Party people crazy party wow wow wow

What's Love and Always On Time, albeit are Ashanti features, are still to this day, mah jamz.

What's with the wonky eyes? Has she been taking make-up tips from Phi Phi O'Hara?
    Thanks Benevenstanciano.

Seems more Jiggly Caliente than anything.

And the blue lipstick, the old lady earring from Argos, the look of confusion on her face, the desk fan wind machine...all priceless.
