Something about Ghetto Baby doesn't sound right to me, the production on the chrous doesn't quite hit you as I feel it should, it just sounds weak however I still like it.
*Girls Aloud* 2) Lady Gaga 3) Britney Spears 4) The Saturdays 5) Nicola Roberts 6) Cheryl Cole 7) Ke$ha 8) Dragonette 9) Wynter Gordon

Ghetto Baby is extremely dull. I thought I'd love it because of Lana, but I don't.

Is it really that big a deal?

The only benefit of being #1 is so they can say its a #1 album. They wouldn't have gone up against Justin Bieber if they were bothered about getting that #1 spot.
The sales is what they'll judge its success on.

Chart positions don't really reflect success, I was working on an album campaign earlier this year that entered at #4. Had it been released in the 2/3 weeks before and got the same sales it would have been #1.

Yeah i agree a Number 2 album is no failure. Will Young's had 3 Number 1 albums and 2 Number 2 albums. You win some, some you lose chart battles. I think she's got No.2 minimum in the bag so she's been successful. I am more concerned about where the album will be next week. I think as long as she does 40k she' done well considering the low sales time. If she loses the number 1 it's going to be by whisper, oh why didn't they just reduce it to £4.99 from Monday!? she would have been covered by that then.

Tommorrow's chart show will be must listen to, its that close (no i'm not exaggerating like Dermot does ha ha) that either of them could get it. I'm going to predict that Bieber will get the album and that Cheryl will lose out by 1,000 sales only. She can get the number 1 album the week after unless there are some big releases.

In other news my boxset came it's immaculate, although i cannot open it yet.

"Sexy Den A Mutha" needs to be the next single to keep the momentum going, and then "Ghetto Baby" will be the one which actually shifts some album copies.

"Ghetto Baby" should also be her lead US single, featuring Will.i.am (and/or Lana).

  9. #5284
I am all for 'Sexy Den A Mutha' being a single choice. However, if she released 'ghetto baby' as her first US single people would say she's just a lana-rip off. So, in general, bad idea.

Really? I don't think 1. Lana's made that much of an impact stateside for people to particularly care about caring for her 2. with the right video it could be presented as a fairly 'urban' affair, quite apart from Lana's hipster-royalty nostalgia-imbued smashes. I find it more 'Motivation' than 'Video Games'.

'Ghetto Baby' is anything but dull to me. It's such a compact, rock solid song. I love the production too.

  12. #5287
Ghetto Baby is just ok to me, I am a huge fan of the Born To Die album but it just doesn't feel right for Cheryl, its got Lana all over it with the lyrics and sound that Cheryl doing it sounds wrong.

  13. #5288
I would also release 'Ghetto Baby' at some point, without a doubt.

P.S. This is a really good album. Wowzers.

  14. #5289
i read on facebook today that she's doing video rehearsals for under the sun ... so that means it's the next single. just NO!

It also mean that he won't be the surprise guest at Hackney today...
Gonna get the energy to wire me close to beautiful robots dancing alone.

Under The Sun is her best chance of another number #1 I think. It's summery and light-hearted and different to her usual pop-dance music, I think the change of pace will work in her favour to be honest. If she'd gone for Screw You there would have been the whole "Cheryl takes dig at ex-hubby in new single!!!" headlines and let's be honest, people are bored to the high heavens with that shit and it'd turn them off her.

I hope that A Million Lights rounds off the album campaign, it'd be really perfect.

  18. #5293
As long as Sexy Den A Mother is released at some point then I'll be happy, it's too good to not be released. I think ending the campaign with A Million Lights would be lovely and I'm sure Under The Sun will do well, it's perfect for summer.

Linkin Park and Maroon 5 are releasing their albums this week, Linkin Park is the typical band that always get #| albums. As long as the albums stays in the top10/top20 long enough I'll be happy.

The only real downside to not getting the #1 is that the press might make a thing of it, saying she can't make it without Cowell or whatever. But I think having the fastest selling single of the year and a #2 album all off her own steam pretty much silences criticisms like that.

To be honest, no artist will ever have #1 albums for the entirety of their career (at least no one with any sort of longevity), so it's bound to happen at some point. It's a shame if it has to happen to her best album by a country mile, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

    Such a horrible decision.

It's weird that people buy into shit but when it comes to actual decent releases they don't bother. It's disappointing that she didn't get to number 1 though, that's for sure.

I don't really see anyone making a huge deal about whether she gets #1 or not bar The Daily Fail. They would write at least 2 articles: a front page item titled "Cheryl's Cole's Colossal Failure as Bieber nabs #1" topped off with a spitefully written Jan Moir article about how her star is fading, probably taking digs at her latest colourful outfits, X Factor USA sacking, singing voice and her criminal conviction (of course). Get a grip, a #2 album is hardly a failure. Of course if she does get #1 she can avoid all chances of negative press in her direction. There's still a chance seeing as she had the lead over Bieber since Thursday. It's going to be very close.

Under The Sun is going to make a fantastic single. Shut your mouths.

  25. #5300
Under The Sun screams single worthy so I am not sure why people are displeased. At least it's a decent song being released!

Plus it will fit in with the late summer release.
