God help us if we're using UK #1's as a barometre of quality.
Is there anyone that HASN'T changed their tags to "Cheryl Cole" for this album?
So far I wouldn't rank the album above Messy Little Raindrops.
Highlights: A Million Lights, Mechanics of a Heart
Meet your new stepmom, kid.
This is her best album yet. I literally cannot find a song on this that I hate. "Under The Sun", "Mechanics of the Heart" and "Boys Lie" are my faves so far.
i left my heart at the disco and now i'm crying on the metro.
She's never sounded better in All Is Fair.
“Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.”
As expected, 'Sexy Den A Mutha' and 'Ghetto Baby' are the two best songs, but 'Craziest Things', 'Girl In the Mirror', 'Screw You', and perhaps one or two others can stay. Obviously 'Call My Name' is great as well. I feel like the worst songs on the record are just mediocre or forgettable, which is a big improvement from the utter bullshit she had on the other two albums.
Also, Lana Del Rey for president.
This is definitely much, much better than her first two from start to finish but they set the bar pretty low to begin with.
My main gripe is that she's so uncharismatic as a vocalist. She sounds mono on most of the songs. Surprisingly though, I agree with the poster who said she pulled off the sensual vibe of Ghetto Baby, particularly in the verses. I imagine Lana singing it and since she's credited with backing vocals most likely she is on the chorus.
Everywhere else though it's just like 'okay'. The title track being a good example. She's supposed to be doing 'longing for love' but she comes off as bored and flat.
Boys Lie, Sexy Den a Mutha, Call My Name and the title track were the ones that caught my attention right away but this isn't an album i'll listen to on a regular basis.
I'm not a massive Cheryl fan, but I have to say that this is her strongest effort yet. There are some problems, but overall, really good.
There is some disastrous pitch correction going on all over this album. In 'One Thousand' for example, nearly every note that last more than a half a second warbles and wavers under the weight of the vocodering. I can't imagine that it's even that necessary, but if they're going to lay it on that think, at least have a damn engineer sort it out.
Also, you can very clearly hear Lana sing "...Show 'em what you got girl/Drop it like it's hot girl". I would kill for her version though. I'm going to need for Emile to give her more productions like that too.
I am LIVING for "Boys Lie". That is the song right now.
i left my heart at the disco and now i'm crying on the metro.
Definitely liking this. Its a solid album and she has a few good single options. Better than 3 Words and much much better than Messy Little Raindrops.
But I have to admit.... this just made me want a new Girls Aloud album even more.
Downloading the leak now (don't worry I ordered the SUPER DELUXE off her website last night).
Listening to 3 Words in anticipation. So excited!!!
can we stop talking about Cheryl as a person and focus on the fact that THE FREAKING ALBUM LEAKED!!!!!
Hmm I wonder what motivates a person to leak an album. It's really a pretty fucked up concept when you think about it.
Of course I am... I'm traumatized...
Last One Standing is the only deluxe track that should be on the standard, the others I can take or leave. All One Thousand's "Don't play with, don't play with me, don't play me with no more" hook is very catchy indeed.
Sexy Den A Mutha and A Million Lights are my instant standouts, but I'm surprised how much I like Screw You and Girl In The Mirror. Under The Sun feels like summer and will make a great second single I think. It's a change of pace and it feels different to all of Cheryl's other singles.
Good: Under The Sun, Call My Name, A Million Lights, Screw You (mainly the first 30 seconds though),
Crap: Craziest Things, Sexy Den A Mutha.
I have only listened to around a minute of the other tracks though. The thought of listening to a Cheryl album in its entirety just seems exhausting. If I'm really bored one of these days I might listen to more of it to form a proper opinion.
Hmm... First world problems!! I think I'm going to download the first 6 tracks, just to keep myself satisfied until I receive my copy. It hasn't even shipped yet (hopefully it will later today) and I can't wait that long, but I also don't want to ruin all the surprise haha!
On first listen, I love:
Under The Sun
Call My Name
A Million Lights
Screw You
Mechanics Of The Heart
All Is Fair
Last One Standing
One Thousand
Telescope
Everything else I can live without. Listening again to see if anything else stands out.
