@Kirkland and RhythmNative- I do not think Cheryl is a monster.
I just don't buy into this opinion that some people have of Cheryl being an innocent and oblivious party in the whole media game that she is always enthralled in. Apart from when very negative stories are written about her, I think she very much enjoys being a media darling and the endless speculation/drama that surrounds her. She even said so much in an interview (I can't remember the interview) where she said that her motivation is being in the public eye and she doesn't know what motiviation people who work '9-5 jobs' have to get up and go to work.
In some ways, I do not think she is that different from Kerry Katona and Katie Price, but she is marketed as being in a different league to them when in essence, she is the same kind of 'tabloid fodder' celebrity. She just comes in a fancier package, thats all.
Every pop star, celebrity, reality TV judge enjoys being famous. That's why they do it and don't go and live in a cave in Montenegro. Her job as a pop star relies on a mutually beneficial relationship with the media. That goes without saying...
But it also goes without saying for every famous actor, singer, dancer and TV presenter on the planet. And those people don't get picked up on it. How many interviews has, say, Jennifer Anniston done about her relationship woes - and she's not instantly lumped with the 'famous for being famous' brigade. She's just a performer that needs to promote herself in order to sell a product and part of that is answering questions about your personal life.
What other female celebrity would be called a fame whore for doing an interview with Vogue? I suppose she should have called up Alexandra Shulman personally and told her to fuck off?
But the double standards are even closer to home that that. Dannii does many, many more magazine interviews than Cheryl. She also did Piers Morgan and cried. She often speaks about her personal life to interviewers – even released an autobiography discussing these things in depth. And yet, I somehow doubt you see her as a sympathy milking fame whore?
There ain't a reason you and Misha B alone, tonight yeah baby, tonight yeah baby...
Yes, celebrities do rely on a mutually beneficial relationship with the media. But we are not talking about them right now because this is a Cheryl thread. What separates Cheryl from a more 'elite' group of celebrity is that her entire career basically IS being a media darling. Why do you not seem to be able to assimilate that point?Originally Posted by RhythmNative
Yes, she dabbles with X-Factor, yes she churns out an album with two decent songs on every year but at the heart of it, her job is being a tabloid darling, her passion is being famous, her passion is not making music, being a judge etc etc. Unlike Jennifer Aniston who will blab about her life when she promotes her movie, Cheryl does certain interviews/events when all she is promoting HERSELF. The Afghanistan trip is a prime example of this. She goes on a highly publicised trip to a war-torn country, gets her face in the papers everyday and Woopty do! Guess what? She releases a shoe-collection straight afterwards! Yaaay! What a PR exercise triumph! Messiah Cheryl is back after Gamu-Gate and 'fired from XF US' gate.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but at the heart of it, Cheryl IS just famous for being famous and her claim to fame is not being a great singer or judge but just being another celebrity who sold her soul to the media in a bigger way than (to use your example) Dannii Minogue and countless other female celebrities.
Clutching at straws there, you are so, so wrong.

That's patently untrue PeachPie. Sure she's done TV, sure she's done endorsements, but she's also released an album (either solo or part of a group) every year since 2003. That's 8 years, 8 albums.
Hardly someone that is uninterested in being a pop star first and foremost.
Cheryl turned down Britain's Got Talent when she was offered it before X Factor. She took X Factor because it was more relevant to what she did for a living and could better be used a promotional platform for her as a pop star. And she was right, it worked very well for her and for Girls Aloud.
If she was simply interested in being on telly and not doing much else, she would have taken the job that Amanda Holden ended up doing and never bothered recording, releasing, promoting or touring again.
But she didn't. She toured again with her band, recorded a solo album, toured again with the Black Eyed Peas and then recorded again. Not a very strong album, admitedly, but she's not the first pop star to release a duff album.
There ain't a reason you and Misha B alone, tonight yeah baby, tonight yeah baby...
She looked stunning on The X Factor US last night. I would've loved to see her reaction to the man who flashed everyone.

Actually, sorry to burst your bubble, but at the heart of it, Cheryl IS just famous for being part of Girls Aloud, a group that worked their asses off and had success as a result. Yes her fame skyrockted after that but at the heart of it, THAT is why she is famous. And your complete inablity to assimillate that fact (to quote yourself in another post) negates 99% of your other points. She has not sold her soul anymore to the media than any other star. She just is more interesting to the public, and obviously yourself as you have followed her interviews and keep making a presence in this thread for someone you feel is nothing.Originally Posted by PeachPie
Ratings are out. It came in 3rd the whole night behind Modern Family and Criminal Minds and it LOST viewers in the second hour.
Haha Shouldn't have fired Cheryl.
i left my heart at the disco and now i'm crying on the metro.
They really did jump the gun getting rid of her. As if her presence alone whether it worked or not would make or break the show. Nicole's antics last night were obnoxious and desperate. Cheryl was sweet, low key, and the camera loves her.Originally Posted by aboutyounow

It would please me to see Simon's American Dream degenerate into a nightmare for the misery he's inflicted upon the world. It is bad enough he dumped Cheryl from X Factor USA, but the bad popstars he's unleashed over the years...such terror is masterful. We must never forget. Simon Cowell is the worst thing to happen to British pop since Betty Boo's second album flopped.Originally Posted by aboutyounow

Actually, the ratings increased in the second hour. About a million more viewers and a .4 increase.

Still, losing out to another show's third season premiere, even if it's a 'hit' show, is not great news.
Meet your new stepmom, kid.
Modern Family has grown every year in popularity and won Emmys for best comedy series two years in a row. I'm not surprised it beat out a new show. It already has a following and gets more every year.Originally Posted by Someboy

But for example The Voice beat Glee/DWTS (two highest rated shows) with it's premiere episode and it was a middle season replacement. So for a show that had a hype that X Factor had and still be beaten not only by Modern family but by Criminal minds too is not that good.Originally Posted by travk

Because keeping her would have made all the difference? I don't think everyone's watching Modern Family and Criminal Minds in protest at the unjust treatment of a woman they've barely heard of.Originally Posted by aboutyounow
X Factor certainly underperformed. Cheryl Cole had nothing to do with it.

Its funny that people are blaming US X-Factor ratings on Cheryl 'leaving', The general feeling to her in America is indifferent at best. To be honest i probably would of opted for Criminal Minds too. We've seen the Paula+Simon show before. Mariah needed to be on that panel. But anyways i digress.

Funny, or fitting, then that the only fresh thing about the show was the Geordie-accented delight that is Ms. Cheryl Cole, a UK X Factor judge and pop star who was, unfortunately, fired from the US show after only two judging rounds. We saw one of those rounds, Los Angeles, in the first half of last night, and then Cole was unceremoniously pushed aside to allow room for American singing competition winner Nicole Scherzinger, a slightly lisping Paris Hilton/Kim Kardashian hybrid who, despite some possessing some bonafide singing chops and real world experience, came across as something of an empty nitwit. Scherzinger, of defunct pop-tart group The Pussycat Dolls, spent a good portion of her evening telling everyone it was her birthday and making them sing for her, as if it was cute or something. (It wasn't.) The seemingly far more modest and deceptively quirky Cole didn't seem the type to do that, and it's a shame we won't get to know her anymore. We'll see her one more time in the Chicago auditions, and then that's it. Fade to black for Cheryl Cole. You wanted something new and original, Fox, well there it is! And then you fired her. Ah well.
