Sneak Peek for anyone unfamiliar with the show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezdQKhHFBmE

It's created by the makers of Frasier, stars Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and Betty White. Each character is great and it's genuinely hilarious. Betty White is brilliant in it, plenty of one-liners that have had me laughing out loud. Not sure how it will hold up as time goes on but for now it's perfection, delighted it's doing well.

I thought this would be very PJ friendly, really surprised it doesn't have a topic! Unless the search went all shitty on me again.. Any fans here?

Obviously it's all about Betty who can turn any old shit into gold, but this is surprisingly entertain anyway.

I just wish they'd used someone other than Jane Leeves. She always does that weird 'English' accent that no one in England actually has. It's really distracting. Clearly Lisa Kudrow would have been an ideal choice.

I've really enjoyed the first two episodes. I suppose Golden Girls comparisons are somewhat inevitable and the fact I managed to label Elka as "Polish Sophia" after about ten seconds of screen time probably isn't the greatest creative endorsement, but it's funny and has potential if the characters are allowed to develop.
...According to a study I'm thinking of conducting.

Isn't that her actual accent though, kind of half American-half English? I love her in it, the last episode about her thinking she was dating her son and collecting the DNA samples were actually hilarious.

I agree Betty really adds to it, I loved when she was like "You look like you just stepped out of a painting... of a hooker!".

It might be her accent now as she's been in US for so long but her 'Manchester' accent in Frasier was unbearable

This is going to be one of those shows that I actively find verges on 'piss poor' whilst watching, yet like enough about it to end up watching an entire season!

Betty delivers enough punchline gold that I find myself suspending disbelief at the completely preposterous notion that those 3 women would actually decide to stay in Cleveland, and also their rather weak characterisation. I actually can't warm to any of the three lead characters at all.

But it's warm and fuzzy enough to stick with for a while yet.

    That's exactly what it is.

Just like The Good Wife which is completely idiotic yet I've watched every episode made so far.

This looks really good. Reminds me of a mish-mash of Cashmere Mafia and Frasier haha. Very happy that Betty White is in it.

This bit was worth watching the entire episode just to see! Ditto when they asked her in Episode One about some hotel and she was like "That's where whores go!"

Which episode is this on in the UK?

It's growing on me slowly, but I think it isn't great. Betty White literally MAKES it.

I'm really warming to it. Betty White is a legend of course and has all the best lines!

She doesn't have the best lines. she has the best comic timing. Give her any of the lines and she's make them the best.

I love this show. It's a old school sitcom. It gets better with each episode and season two is just great.

It's beginning to settle into a nice, cosy groove of being unambitious but utterly comfortable to watch. I feel as though the other (i.e. main) three actresses are beginning to find their niche with their characters.

Betty White is stealing the show because hearing an old lady saying things old ladies aren't expected to say is always fun, and she delivers her lines with such zest and knowing, concealed with a veil of obliviousness from her Rose performances.

It totally gets better as the series goes on. The last 3/4 of series one are awesome. Looking forward to starting season two!

We are so behind in the UK, I had no idea season 2 was well underway. I imagined a second series would be unlikely, because I'm age-ist and thought Betty wouldn't be doing it. The ratings are down though, so perhaps the second will be its final season. I wonder if that's because the concept is running out of steam, or if it's gone down the Cybil route of trying to hard to have a good moan about things and have a "message".

Everyone says Betty has the best comic timing, but Wendie Malick has similar abilities to knock lines out the park that aren't even that funny. Can you believe she's 60? Actually, maybe some of you can, but she has a sort of ageless older person quality to her.

I'd say Jane Leeves either has the hardest or the easiest job - drunk and blunt British woman, either an easy laugh or tough to warm to. Her accent is just awful though; Frasier's Daphne's accent did soften over the years so maybe she can make similar alterations here.

P.s, the parents episode was beyond crap.

Season 1 is only15 quid for pre order on Amazon. I just watched the Betty White Actors' Studio special on Sky Atlantic - made me love her even more!

Season 2 is much better | think. The last few episodes have been amazing. It is the most watched show on the channel it's on in the US and has been ordered a full 22 episode season 3 apparently.

Apart from Jane Leeves of course, She's terrible.

They should have got Laurie Metcalf who is obviously an acting goddess.

Aah, I'm quite fond of Jane Leeves. I find her droll, deadpan delivery oddly comforting. But Laurie Metcalf would have been a whole other level of awesomeness; I wholeheartely agree. There again, you could recast the other two roles with another ageing diva like Christine Baranski (practically the same actress?!) and someone reassuringly cosy like Debra Messing and still have pretty much the same show.
