Crazy Stupid Love is a fantastic film.

I agree to a certain extent. In isolation the Basterds were something of a weak link (too cartoonish and underdeveloped perhaps?) and as such Chapter 2 is my least favourite of the movie, but when they come together with the amazing Bridget Von Hammersmark and, eventually, Hans Landa, they're not without their own charm. It's funny how much the promotional material focused on them as main characters, for fear people catching on to the - shock horror! - liberal subtitles involved with the rest of the cast! It's still probably my favourite Tarantino movie after Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction.

As for his reactionary preoccupation with dialogue, I think only Death Proof is truly guilty of this, to the extent that the film was utterly bogged down by lengthy stretches of inconsequential nonsense and self-congratulatory references, despite the fact that it was a) not entertaining, and b) completely ill-suited to the exploitation, grindhouse genre it was supposed to homage.

It's very enjoyable but I felt the ending was something of a slushy cop-out given how well it bucks clichés before that point. I'd rank it just below 500 Days Of Summer in my Thoughtful Quasi-Romantic Comedy sub-genre ranking.

I thought it did well to keep its genre-bucking integrity without making the ending a complete wrist-slitter.

Tarantino is the only reason Im going to see Django. He's great. Not all his films are amazing but even the bad ones aren't so bad. Leo usually turns me off of a movie and Jamie Foxx is so overrated.

Is there ever going to be a Kill Bill 3? Uma needs to pop the sprog and get back to being a fierce bitch.

Did anyone ever read the plot of that amazing Kill Bill chapter that was never filmed, which introduced Gogo Yuburi's sister Yuki? It's such a bloody shame it never came to be, she'd have been played by the legendary Kou Shibasaki and it would've featured her popping bubblegum whilst shooting an automatic machine gun in the streets of LA. Brilliant, no? Here's the full thing. Let's all pray Kill Bill 3 is made and this chapter is in it:

Go Go's younger sister Yuki Yubari was completely written out of Kill Bill. In the early script of Kill Bill by Quentin Tarantino, there's an entire chapter called Yuki's Revenge. According to this old script, Yuki Yubari partied with the rest of her gang at the House of Blue Leaves but had to turn in early due to a cold. Maybe that's Tarantino's polite way to say it's passed her bedtime. Besides, Good Citizen Tarantino (tm) can never allow warm sake to touch the lips of this underaged kid even though at 16, she's only a year younger than Go Go. She might be a Yubari (and therefore hot as hell), but she still hasn't developed that killer/psychotic edge yet. After kissing Sophie Fatale goodnight, she left just before Uma kickstarted her samurai disco. When she learned the piercing headache Go Go had to suffer thanks to the Bride, Yuki decided to off the miserable blonde lest the world thinks that she lacked the balls (pun intended) that Go Go had. The script called for Yuki to take revenge on the Bride on her home turf in the United States. After a whirlwind tour around LA, Hollywood, and Disneyland armed with her disposable Barbie camera, she decides that a submachine gun would be the perfect accessory for taking down the silly American. When Yuki finally confronts the woman who forced Go Go to drop out of school, the young girl demands revenge (and makeup tips. I kid you not; QT is a genius!). Black Mamba, however, has no time for the brat (two down, three to go, remember?). Now, the Bride's existence offends Yuki and we see her demonstrate that she can chew bubblegum and fire a loaded automatic at the same time while chasing The Bride through the streets of Los Angeles. Strangely, no one in LA is disturbed by a girl with pink fingernails spraying the neighborhood with bullets as long as she's hot. Finally, Yuki Yubari traps the Bride in a suburban home (metaphor on so many levels) and after much struggling on the floor for the ladies (to the much delight of the audience if this were made), Yuki is bested by Uma. Here's hoping there's room in heaven for bad girls who look chic in school uniforms. The Yuki's Revenge chapter never went to the production stage because Kou Shibasaki, the Battle Royale actress Tarantino wanted for the role of Yuki Yubari, could not sign on to Kill Bill due to other commitments. Quentin Tarantino also begrudgingly admitted that the movie is long enough already and therefore he dropped Yuki's Revenge from the final script. The original draft with Yuki Yubari is floating on the Net and is recommended reading for all those who are interested in Kill Bill. Perhaps one day, Tarantino will animate that sequence as a special feature for the ultimate Kill Bill DVD.

Meh. As much as I adore Gogo, having a supporting character arc for a supporting character seems like a waste of time.

9. #709
Really?! It sounds brilliant to me! But I might be looking through rose colored glasses since I adore both Chiaki Kuriyama and Kou Shibasaki and I've got a big soft spot for young Japanese girls trying to kill each other. All of this might have been caused by Battle Royale, in which all of these elements come together.

Yeah it sounds too convoluted. But would probably have been tonnes of fun to watch.

Everyone should go check out Snow White and the Huntsman, awesome movie!

Has anyone seen The Pact yet? Frightening? Awful? Worth a watch?
Let's raise hell in the streets drink beer and get into trouble..heavy metal lovaa!

I really want to see Snow White and the Huntsman. I wouldn't bother with The Pact, it's a load of nothing - you'll forget it after coming out.

I think I went into Rock of Ages with too much optimism. CZJ is wonderful in it and I like the two leads but it all felt a bit too clean.

Has anyone seen Election? It's amazing and probably Reese Witherspoon's best role ever.

But anyway, I just watched the first episode of Glee (I know, three years late), but I can't believe how much they lifted from Election. The three main characters are basically Xerox copies with a bit more Hollywood sprinkled on top.

15. #715
Election is awesome! Reese plays crazy very well.

I Saw the Devil is the darkest movie I've ever seen. So fucked up.

I can't handle horror anymore. I used to love it when I was younger, what's wrong with me? Yesterday I tried watching 28 Days Later with a friend but after 15 minutes I just had to turn it off. It's a good film but it's so dark I can't handle it anymore! I've grown soft, haha!

I just saw Histeria last night and I'm not sure how I feel about it. It was fun but they wasted some wonderful opportunities for comedy and instead just made a whole bunch of vibrator jokes. Maggie Gyllenhaal is perfect though.

The trailer for Anna Karenina looks absolutely stunning. Catch that Oscar, Keira (at last)!

22. #722
Is Keira trying to break a record for most period dramas starred in ever? I wouldn't even recognise her without, like, a bonnet and corset.

Also, the new Spiderman film looks dreadful. Why bother?

I think it could be a case of 'crap trailer' syndrome. Whilst I hardly imagine it will be a totally awe-inspiring, refreshing watch, I trust that the two leads will give the two main characters the good deal of oomph that I never really received from Toby and Kirsten.

Will it be distinctive enough from the previous trilogy, which was only laid to rest half a decade ago? Perhaps not.

But I can't really say until I've seen it, can I?!
The capital 'E' means I'm 'bout that life.

Just watched 'Martha Marcy May Marlene' with Elizabeth Olsen (the olsen twins older sister) I hate films that end mid scene. so annoying.

25. #725
I like Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, but I'm somewhat puzzled by the revisionism about Toby and Kirsten. I mean, this is a great scene.
Meet your new stepmom, kid.
