'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' was just wonderful!

A fabulous film indeed. Very uplifting and (unsurprisingly) beautifully acted by the stellar cast. My God, as morbid as this sounds, I'm going to miss Maggie Smith so much when she's gone. She's absolutely flawless in this, as was Judi Dench, and Bill Nighy.

(I did not realise though that Judi Dench is actually older than Maggie Smith, if only by a couple of weeks! It would seem that Maggie's recent ill-health may have taken it's toll, plus she is playing a significantly crippled old lady here.)

Really, really good. The best 'vignette-style' film I've seen since 'Love Actually'. In fact, if you liked 'Love Actually', you'll almost certainly like this. Don't be out off that, instead of focussing on love, it focusses on change/getting old/starting afresh. It's still more than applicable to anyone of any age, and the Dev Patel storyline proved this (Tena Desae, the actress who plays his girlfriend, Sunaina, is absolutely stunning here. I think I'm in love.)

It got me wondering though. Right now (and for many, many years), the UK has probably had the strongest pool of 'elite' actors in the world. There are countless numbers of them, as seen in this film, 'Harry Potter' etc. But will their places be filled? I'm trying very hard to think of early-to-mid middle-aged actors that could be classed as the next set of the 'elite', but it's extremely hard.

Ewan McGregor first comes to mind.

Charlize Theron is on the roll with her upcoming blockbusters. First Prometheus full trailer and now full trailer for Snowhite and The Huntsman

Colin Firth, Kate Winslet, Helena Bonham Carter, Daniel Day Lewis, Tilda Swinton?

Can't think of reams of them, but I think that's more my memory than any lacking in talent!

Good ones! I'll guess we'll see whether they'll stand the test of time.

I watched Back to the Future 1 & 2 yesterday for the first time ever.

The first one was just fantastic. I can totally see why it's such a "classic", really enjoyed it all. I wish I could be as cool as Marty McFly!

The second one was a bit of a hot mess, but still a highly enjoyable romp. It amazed me how they used footage of the first film but with different angles and added scenarios - were the scenes of the first film (I mean like the dance at the end etc) reshot for the second film, or was that leftover footage used or what? It was really well done anyway.

I have the third one too but cowboys aren't really my thing... is it worth a watch anyway to complete the saga?

Just cam back from watching John Conor 3D and I regret the money I gave for this piece of crap.

First of all it wasn't in 3D it was in "here it is 3D so we can make more money". Shame on you Disney!

As far as the movie 2 and a half hours was so torturing. Not worth the money and if anybody wants to watch it wait for DVD and rent it.

I hope Ewan McGregor looks like Alec Guinnes when he gets old. And I hope Kate Winslet looks like the old lady from Titanic.

I am going to watch Crazy Stupid Love tomorrow and drool all the way through. Then I'm going to watch Weekend on Thursday and (I hope) bawl my eyes out.

Anthony Head replaces Pierce Brosnan in the Percy Jackson sequel and Nathan Fillion plays Hermes. Mini Whedon-reunion!

Well, the teaser for 'Cosmopolis' is out and it seems like Cronenberg is back (The Dangerous Method was truly awful):

Excited. It gives me 'eXistenZ' vibes and I love it.

"The 'burbs" is on now which isn't a great movie by any stretch... however there is something totally great about it.

I have mixed feelings with the third one. It doesn't really fit in so well with the other two and generally isn't as good, but it does complete the story. I say just watch it.

And I'm pretty sure they replicated the '50s sets etc. for Part 2, because they used a stand-in for George (notice that you never see the dad's face, because Crispin Glover refused to come back).

I love the whole Back To The Future trilogy but I do think there should have been a bit more variety in the third one. A look at another time period would have been good, even if it was a brief one.

  16. #641
The third is more of a return to the ethos of the original. Less a story about timey wimey stuff and more a fish out of water romp... hence why it seemed to do better on the whole with the critics who didn't seem to like 2 very much.

Maybe the cowboy thing will put you off, I like cowboy flicks so I wouldn't know. However my mum, my brother and my best mate all hate cowboy flicks but think 3 is the better sequel.

My opinion is I do think 3 is the better film and was more enjoyable on first viewing... however 2 has more of a rewatchabilty factor. I never feel compelled to watch 3 if it happens to be on on a sunday afternoon, however 2 I'll always switch on.

I completely agree. I love looking at all the background details in 2, whether it's their version of 2015 or the way they've recreated the events of the first film, but from different angles.

Thought "21 Jump Street" was hilarious. I'm not the type who laughs out loud but I was chuckling throughout.

"Kevin" in "We Need to Talk about Kevin" is fucking gorgeous!

"Weekend" is so good. One of those rare moments when I can honestly say I feel better after watching a film.

The 3/4 bottle of red wine I downed while watching probably helped a bit.

    Balance dad mysterious.

I just watched Wrath Of The Titans (Clash Of The Titans sequel) and it was good. The first one was better but this one had amazing graphic but at times it felt pathetic with all those soppy goodbyes.

The worst/best part of the Sparkle trailer is that Whitney's voice sounds amazing.
