I'm surprised that she hasn't got her own thread by now!

Stevie is AMAZING (up there with Kate Bush & Mylene Farmer in my book) and probably as mad as a box of hair but I absolutely adore her, I play her much more that Fleetwood Mac and as Eric Generic said earlier apart from her Street Angel album anything she has released is all kinds if fantasticness!

    She is, quite simply, IT.

When I first heard the Rock A Little album, I left my childhood behind for good. A new world beckoned. That album has such a deep significance in my life, I can't view it objectively. The other albums are as brilliant, but don't have that same pull. The Wild Heart is probably my pick, if I try to be objective haha.

Love her. Sometimes, her solo stuff verges on shite mind, she's not consistantly amazing, but she is a legend. When there's a full moon, I often wrap myself in an antique shawl, put chiffon scarves over all my old dusty Tiffany lamps, grab my old carpet bag and spin around the room listening to every song she ever wrote.

PS The uncredited extended mix of 'Rooms On Fire' (9 mins!) on the CD single is bliss.

Me too (loving her - not putting on a shawl when it's full moon, although.........). Rhiannon is my favourite of the FM songs she sings lead on. I am listening to Bella Donna quite a bit at the mo. I keep meaning to get the album Sheryl Crow produced for her - Trouble in Shangri-La but keep forgetting.

This is my Stevie Top 30, perfect for dancing around in your shawl - I saw Sandra Bernhard some years ago and I remember she was obsessed with Stevie as well, she talked about being enfolded in Stevies shawl while Stevie spinned her around the room!

The Crystal Visions/Enchanted boxset versions sound better than the original cds - they could do with remastering. Like Eric I think Rock A Little is her masterpiece and that was my original introduction to her.

The Crystal Visions dvd is hilarious as she provides a very funny commentary on her videos, particularly the scrapped horse riding video for Stand Back which cost a 'gazillion dollars'!

Her version of Silent Night is one of my favorite Christmas songs ever. So haunting.
Born to run, get ahead of the rest.

Just noticed that Juliet (from Other Side Of The Mirror) isn't in your list, so we have a difference of opinion there, haha.

And yes, Rock A Little in particular is in dire need of remastering....not because it's too quiet, but the mix is a bit murky. I'm just used to it because I'd play the cassette version for years, and got to know the songs in that murky state.

I'm excited to see all this love for 'Rock A Little'! It's my pick too, although most Stevie fans seem to list it as their least favourite because of the lack of melodies, 80s production and Stevie's state at the time. All the qualities that are used to deride the album are the ones I love most about it - the coked out lyrics, the vocal wails, the blend of icy and warm synths.

If I could only ever listen to 20 seconds of one song for the rest of my life, it would be the beginning of 'Sister Honey' with Stevie's brilliant opening lines - 'ALRIGHT, BABY! All RIGHT!'

I'm really looking forward to hearing new Stevie songs. I enjoyed the little clip that Dave Stewart put on Twitter a while ago. It seems that his involvement really hurried her up, and it was nice to have little bits of info while they were recording.

Yes, this new album sounds quite promising, it's already getting quite a bit of press Stateside even though it wont be out for a few months.

I never know there was a 9-minute mix of 'Rooms on Fire', that's amazing. *begins search*

This is spooky! I found that CD single yesterday (£1!), and remembered it being mentioned here for good reasons. But I forgot the uncredited bit, haha. So I went from disappointment at seeing the CD sleeve's lack of "extended mix" to joy when it actually was the long version. And yes, it's absolutely sublime.

I'm having one of my "not wanting to listen to anything but Stevie Nicks" phases at the moment.

I can sing a passable Rooms On Fire, as I often in my car. Can't wait to hear the new stuff.

She sang 'Sara', that's basically enough for me to sign a contract with the devil and have her take my soul.

For me that would be Leather & Lace.

Did Planets of The Universe really get to #9 in the UK? It says so on wikipedia..

  17. #17
What??!!! Someone made that up I think! Stevie's biggest solo single was Rooms On Fire, if memory serves...#16. She never had the UK chart success she merited. Although albums-wise she made #3 with Other Side of the Mirror.

There weren't any charting singles from Trouble In Shangri-La, sadly. I'd have put Planets... at #1 myself, but then I don't run the world.

Have we all heard 'Secret Love', the first track to be released from Stevie's new album 'In Your Dreams'? It's very 'nice', but doesn't seem to have much of a melody. Hardcore Nicks fans will have probably owned the original demo version for years (I think the song itself dates back to the seventies). The production is a good mix of eighties nostalgia and contemporary touches (the backwards drums, etc) but most impressively, her voice sounds younger and fresher than it has for some time.

stevie is one of my favourite artists ever. i own all of her studio albums, and i may be one of the few who actually enjoys the street angel album, tho it's no where near my favourite (that goes to the other side of the mirror) :)

I don't 'get' Stevie Nicks. She's kinda passed me by somehow.

I've kinda tried but she just doesn't hold much interest.

When I say 'tried' I mean looked her up on YouTube a couple of times and bought a GH of Fleetwwood Mac. Sorry Eric.
Check you lipstick before you come and talk to me.............. Let's go Zi Lin!!!

A trailer for the new album has been put online today, and it's made me even more excited. The third song (possibly Wide Sargasso Sea) sounds the best in it.

That trailer is beautifully shot and edited.

As much as I love the visuals, I do think the music is verging on boring. Hardcore fans are sure to like it as it's very derivative of the style which she has been presenting since the 80s or even earlier.

  24. #24
Beautiful trailer. I for one am glad things haven't really changed thirty years on. She always gives me what I expect without being a bore. She doesn't need to do something exciting or innovative for me.

Looking vert much forward to this release!

this album is really great. standouts so far are "Soldier's Angel" and "Moonlight."
