This was not how I imagined the last episode of the season to be. Lexie (which was actually a great character) died too fast and the cruel thing is that there might be more characters we won't see in the next season. Arizona for example, she spit blood, so she could actually die.

I don't need more dead characters!!

I like Arizona but I'd not be too troubled by her death, if only for the great Callie scenes that would come from it.

I honestly didn't expect Lexie to be killed off. There were talks a few seasons back about how she would be set-up as the title character if the actress who played Meredith wanted to leave, so I guess this is Shonda Rhimes realising that the show probably wouldn't survive if too many of he original characters (namely Meredith) left.

But who actually LOVES Meredith. She's not why the show is great. She's annoying a LOT of the time.

Hmm, I always thought Meredith was the perfect lead because she's so non-polarizing. She's no one's favorite, but she's no one's least favorite either. Some people hated Izzie and others loved her, same with Callie, Alex, Mark, Owen, but Meredith was kind of the anchor that everything revolves around. Lexie was I think the closest thing to a Meredith the show had, though she was my favorite and I know some people dislike her, so I don't know that she would've worked quite as well as Meredith as a lead.

I highly doubt anyone else will die. Contracts are made for whole seasons. Anyone wanting out isn't going to come back for more episodes after their contract's ended and anyone getting the sack will want to be available for roles on shows starting in the new season.

With Ellen Pompeo signing up for two more seasons, I'm guessing that's the end date they have in sight for the show now so Lexie was considered surplus to requirements. I'm glad Teddy's gone, I liked her story with Henry but she didn't have anything else going for her. Owen needs to go too along with either Callie or Arizona. The show has too many leads, they're all likeable but I'm only really interested in the original characters and I quite like Mark, April and Jackson too so the others are surplus in my eyes.

I do love her. She's the reason why I watch the show. I enjoy her personality and her relationship with the rest of characters.

Hopefully there won't be nothing between April and Jackson - I kinda like April, the (ex)virgin, who is looking for love. If they are going to end up together it would be so boring!

I like Owen and I think he and Christina were a great couple, so hopefully both are going to stay.

    Who watched the episode yesterday?

I'd agree with that. Compare her to, say, Ally McBeal - she was likable enough during the first two seasons, but her never ending downwards spiral in the third season turned me off the show completely. When Meredith is annoying, I can just tune out and wait for Callie to show up.

I haven't seen the latest episode, but I know who dies and it isn't much of a shock at all. I'm more infuriated that they killed off Lexie, who was turning into one of my favorite characters. I liked the Mark-Lexie-Jackson love triangle. Oh well, I'm just glad they haven't killed Jackson off. Even if the show is crap I can at least look forward to a few shots of his abs.

It was on last night? I must watch immediately!

I'm still so severely bitter about Lexie, though. She was probably my second favorite character on television.

    Arizona, oh my god.

Sometimes things are so sad they surpass my emotional threshold. This was one such instance.

I feel like we're in for another shit season. I don't have much to base that on (aside from the ridiculously shoehorned OH MARK'S DYING BY THE WAY) but it remains a nagging and uncomfortable feeling.

That's not the last we see of Mark though. Next week's episode is a flashback to their rescue so we should get more of a sense of what went wrong with him.

I'm just glad they're downsizing the cast. They kept unnecessarily adding new characters every year, I only really care about the originals. Apparently budget cuts forced them to downsize, so if ABC hadn't stepped in, nothing would have changed! I quite like April and Jackson though, they can stay. When they were trying to make us think Arizona was dead, I didn't care all that much and Owen is still dull. Someone get Heather Mills to take Arizona somewhere to show her that her life's not over and for Owen to realise he's not wanted and this season will be fine. Nine series regulars are more than enough.

I'm not really thinking that much about the new season, but I will say that Sandra Oh absolutely rocked that bathtub scene to hell and back and it's a shame the Emmys seem to be blind to anything that's either older than five years or not on cable, because she should be taking all the awards for that scene alone.

Sandra Oh remains one of the best actresses on television. Time and time again she has proven her talent, but like you said, she will probably never get recognized for it.

The last episode was actually pretty good. I love those two characters together and actually it's better when there are only two stories told in one episode instead of 6...

I think the past couple of episodes have been really good, it's nice to have a centric episode like that to really get to grips with certain characters' issues but I don't think it was any more or less effective than how they usually do it when it comes to general storytelling.

Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo have mentioned that they think Cristina and Meredith's relationship is a bit unrealistic in the sense that they consider each other their 'Person'. I think there's a bit of a disagreement between them and Shonda Rhimes since she believes it's possible to have someone as your Number One Person who isn't your partner. I can't decide who's right. That attitude seems a bit unhealthy to me but at the same time, there's something really sweet about it.

I agree with Shonda. I love my boyfriend (of 5+ years) very much but my best friend is my "Person." I don't see it as being a Number One In Your Life thing, more of a the "Person" you run to when you're upset/heartbroken etc, just someone who "gets" you and I think many friendships (particularly female ones) have that with their closest friend.

This season is really good so far.
