Thread: Scream 4

  1. #1

Is anybody else as excited as I am? I love the trilogy. Sidney, Gail and Dewey are back for the fourth and there is also talk of a 5th and 6th.

as I said in the other thread..

    That will be shit.

The first Scream was good, with a genuinely disturbing and clever first act. Everything else has descended more into cliché predictable mediocrity since.

The only way this film will be any good is if they forget trying to be funny and kill off any surviving characters from the first films in the first 5 minutes. Or better yet just not feature them at all. David Arquette and his gurning face can fuck right off thanks.

As long as there's enough of the original actors around I am excited for this.
Loved the complete trilogy, so I'm sure they'll make this work too.
Not sure about the ideas for a 5th and 6th though.

That poster thing looks a bit tacky and fanmade.

I can't wait for this, although I do think it could be crap. I loved the original trilogy, but I don't know if a second would work, it seems a bit silly. I wish it wasn't a year until this though.

I simply cannot wait to see this. Scream and Scream 2 were such amazing films - I'm one of the few who prefer the sequel. Scream 3 was shit though. I have great confidence in this one though, because the new breed of ultra violent horror movies like Hostel and Saw have put me off the genre. If Sidney and her crew can take the piss out of those types of movies...I'm glad.
Annie, if you're reading this...please know that I want your EP right now!

I'm excited, as I always will be for this type of flick, but I don't think it's going to work. The first two were so successful primarily because of timing (I agree the second one was probably the best) but they delayed Scream 3 for too long and it didn't quite work.

How Williamson will make these self-referential without resorting to Scary Movie type parody is a mystery.

    Good luck to him though.

And at least it's not just a remake!

I think it will be harder to make fun of horror films as they make fun of them in chronological order- In Scream they mock horror movies in general, Scream 2 mocks the sequel etc.
But film series tend to get a bit silly once they go past the third film, like Hallowe'en, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and so on. In fact, perhaps the best thing they could is make fun of the reboot and how ridicolously serious those films take themselves.

I really liked Scream 3 actually. Parker Posey is AMAZING in it and I love her and Courtney Cox together (although I have to say Courtney Cox looks like absolute shit in Scream 3 god knows what look they were going for with that hair and the yellow suit). Overall I think the characters were better in Scream 3 but the storyline and the direction/pace of Scream 2 was better. The supporting characters in Scream 2 were sooo dull - Jerry O'Connell as Sidney's Boyfriend was dull as hell and that girl Halle was as her new BFF was NO replacement for Rose La McGowan as Tatum in the first film.

This film has the original cast in it though. That's something in it's favour. With luck Kevin is firing on gas with the script.

I read somewhere that in the original version of Scream 2, the killers were going to be Derek and Halle, not Mickey and Mrs Loomis. That would have been cool.

I can't wait to see this. It's been 10 years since Scream 3...can you believe it?

    Courteney Cox is LOVE.

Hmm... I'm not too sure about this one. But the fact that the original cast are back is a definite step in the right direction.

...Although we shouldn't forget how reticent and bored they all were in Scream 3. Three lagging careers later they're all "overjoyed to be back"...

I'm not sure about this. I love that the cast is back, and that Wes and Kevin are back. What I loved about the original and Scream 2 is that while they were funny, they were still really scary. However, lets not forget Cursed was dire.

Still, whatever happens, I'll be going to see this.

Cursed was a victim of its own title - I think the studio executives were allowed to meddle too much. Apparently, the original 'vision' was pretty good.

Apparently Emma Roberts will be joining the cast as Sidney's cousin Jill, and she'll be the new (joint) heroine.

Emma Roberts? Blimey, that's a casting.

I worry about this, though. My love for the original is undying (boom boom), but I've always felt like they used their best trick in the first 5 minutes (in killing Drew Barrymore).

I can't really watch the sequels without my mind jumping to Scary Movie, though. "IT'S SHAKERS-SPEAR IN LURVE".

I'm going to be optimistic about it. I love the Trilogy, and it's the same cast and director, so it might not be the usual 'I need some sure cash, oh I know, lets do another sequel to a horror franchise' thing.

The mask still creeps me out as well.
I love the bits where the killer starts screaming down the phone like:
'IF YOU HANG UP I'M GUNNA GUT YOU LIKE A FUCKING FISH'
    They make the phone calls.

The mask is far too comedy for me. I miss Michael.

I wonder how they'll play the opening in this. Everyone will be expecting a big kill but it would be pretty obvious. I still wouldn't be surprised if they killed off one of the main 3 at some point, especially with Emma being the new lead now, it could get a bit crowded with 4 people.

There are also rumours that Hayden Panettiere will be playing Jill's best friend, which could be.. interesting. She'd probably be a mini Tatum!

I also love how the killers always run in these movies, unlike Michael or the Fisherman, who just walk slowly giving them ample time to get away!

That poster looks really good. I'm not happy about Emma Roberts; I find her highly irritating.

  21. #21
I think the comedy element of the mask is what creeps me out, like the big smiling face, I dunno.

Hayden Panettiere could be like the Drew Barrymore/Sarah Michelle Gellar type person in that they're quite famous and have a death scene.

(Were those two actually famous when the respective films came out? Now I've just said that I'm doubting myself).

  22. #22
The mask used to scare the shit outta me when I was ten.
    Now, obviously not so much.

It'll be interesting to see what they do with this film. I loved all of the previous three so I'll definitely go to watch, if not just for the nostalgia but it'll be the first time I'll be able to watch a Scream film in the cinema.

  23. #23
Yeah, Drew had been famous for years and was expected to be one of the big stars of the movie (she was originally going to play Sidney) which is why it was so shocking when she was killed first. and Sarah was in Buffy while she did Scream 2!

Haha cheers. So my point does still stand, Hayden could just have a death scene even if we think she's playing a massive part.Watching a Scream film in the cinema for the first time should be fun as well.

I'm gonna sound like a moany old man, but, would it be so hard for them to come up with a new horror movie concept?
