It was perfect, although I kind of wish the episode had ended with the Jack and Vera scene.

It really was lovely. I didn't even know he was dying tonight but I naturally felt there was a great sense of innate - not forced, 'are you crying yet??'-style - nostalgia in the Rovers at his party. Vera's appearance, like the entire episode, was subtle, perfectly played, effective and wonderfully fitting.

Was fighting back the tears, loosing man points here!
That said, was a very very well acted episode.
I thought Tyrone calling Jack 'dad' was sadder than Vera's reappearance.
Lovely episode. Vera's appearance and Tyrone calling him dad really got to me.
The Janines...
It brought me to tears cos it reminded me of my grandad. How embarassing!

Oh no, was that tonight? Dammit I missed it!
On a more cheerful note, there's gonna be a mini-crossover episode for Children In Need with Eastenders.

The TV3 website is your friend! You really must see it; it was the perfect, bittersweet culmination of what's been a wonderfully-handled goodbye to Jack over the last few weeks.Originally Posted by citoig

Will that be the usual "5 minutes of a badly thought-out plot revolving around raising money for Pudsey before someone breaks the 4th wall and urges us to phone the number at the bottom of the screen'? They should do a real crossover which counts as part of the continuity, it would be epic. Especially as several actors have appeared in both soaps over the years.Originally Posted by citoig
Oh wow, that was wonderfully done. I really was hesitant about Vera appearing, but it worked perfectly. And the "Goodnight, dad" line was heartbreaking. It's coming to the end of an era for the show really, and they handled it amazingly.
On a different note, I felt an irrational amount of anger during the wedding dress scene, ITV need to cut back on that bloody Make You Feel My Love song!

I can't think of the last time a character got such a good send-off.Originally Posted by citoig
I actually think it was Vera, to be honest. Much simpler, but just as emotional.

Perfect ending. Suitably subtle and Vera coming back worked brilliantly. So glad he didn't go out with a bang and crash.
It was really well done, but my only criticism is that it ended really abruptly. It felt like the music started as Tyrone barely finished saying "Goodnight, dad." We could have done with another 20/30 seconds of quiet.
Replying with GIFs is like arguing with a tree - really boring.
I bet loads of viewers shed a tear or two at that. Incredibly well done.
It was great to see Vera back considering how crap her exit episode was!
I thought Vera's bits were lovely in her episode but they were intercut with scenes of David and Tina getting it on for the first time, weren't they? I thought that was a bit of a shambles at the time, Vera deserves better than two teens rutting between her tragic goodbye to Weatherfield.Originally Posted by slimane
The thing I loved about Jack and Vera was how they fought, argued, bickered and insulted each other. I belive there were even affairs in the days before my time. You aways knew they truly loved each other though. That's why it was so lovely to see her come back for him.
I bet it was strangely comforting to a lot of older people who are on their own now.
I think it is mainly Eddie that riles me. The character is so poorly written, never funny, never deserving of any sympathy or empathy. And has no back-story or ANYTHING OF INTEREST ABOUT HIM AT ALL. I started watching properly again earlier this year and for about 2 weeks (a good 8 or 9 episodes) I didn't realise that Anna was married to him. I thought she worked in the cafe and was entirely separate to the vagrant who had appeared as a squatter in Weatherfield. I sincerely hope they get rid - she can stay.Originally Posted by IMHO
Anyway, such venom is unnecessary after last night's episodes. It made me very emotional and was beautifully handled. I loved everyone being in the pub together and interacting (rather than being off in separate storylines). One of Coronation Street's best things is that the cast work as a real ensemble when they're all together (particularly the old guard).
Just have to say my piece on Jack and Vera, it was truly the best episode of corrie ever in my opinion, it actually felt like the end of a film at that point.
I was really disappointed with her exit too, she deserved some sort of comic storyline in the weeks leading up to it, but this never happened.Originally Posted by slimane
Wasn't Liz Dawn ill in real life at the point she left? That might be why it was a bit rushed and brief.
Great episode last night. Almost as sad as when Helen Daniels died in Neighbours.
It was a lovely scene with Vera in it but I would say it was far from the best episode. The pub scenes were atrocious - unfunny jokes, the actor who plays Kevin was not a convincing drunk and Ashley Peacock...need I say more?Originally Posted by Fire
