It's taken hours but I don't think I've ever cried at soap acting before, relentlessly emotional when you see a story arc all in one go and everything involving Danny Miller is just TV gold to me. Have seen some interviews and stuff as well and the bond the cast and crew had seems really nice too.

I really loved the Paddy and Hazel characters too. Is the show still worth watching regularly now?
Yes its still worth watching its had a few ups and downs but there's still great acting and comedy.

Hazel has left now sadly but yeah it's always consistently good. Did you just watch that story because of Danny Miller? Another story from 2009-10 you should watch is the Wylde family saga. Best soap storyline in years and years.

I love that you think soap fans are 'a bit psycho' ha ha. Probably true.

I think I watched it all because I recently heard Danny had left Emmerdale and it prompted me to watch a few clips and I just HAD to then watch all 400 odd youtube clips of his whole run on the show. I was hooked!

Emmerdale never really registered for me. All I knew was a plane crashed in the 90s and allowed some kind of rejuvination of characters. Paddy was the only character I recognised. I remember watching for a week or two at some point when Aaron beat up Paddy and came out - it was some of the most amazing TV acting I had ever seen but the timeslot meant I could never watch it regularly and I just assumed it was a briefly poigniant plot twist.

Since then I was only vaguely aware of the Aaron and Jackson story and that's about it, so catching up on 2 years in a week has been mindblowing, a revelation. This show had some quality stoylines and acting like I've never seen in a soap before. I have been totally blown away by the Aaron/Jackson/Hazel story. I particularly like the Aaron+Hazel dynamic after Jackson's death. It's a shame all these great actors have left. I guess Dominic Brunt is the only reason left to watch?

I can't believe it's affected me so much I'm commenting on forums about it! I know people can like soaps without being psycho but some people do get reality and fiction mixed up a bit. I was looking at the facebook site for Aaron's ficitional boyfriend Ed and someone actually asked if it was the "real" Ed - I mean seriously.... why do they allow fictional facebook pages anyway?

I have never heard about the Wylde family? Why was it good?

The Wylde storyline was brilliant, it was classic Emmerdale. It involved an affair, a murder, people being framed, incest, a kidnap and Natasha was such a frosty, fabulous banned word. Even if you don't watch the whole storyline, you MUST check out Maisie's fruitbowl meltdown. You're life will be changed forever.

I just youtubed "Emmerdale Maisie" and got some bizarre breakdown scene in the pub where she's having a panic attack? It's very soapy - not QUITE the subtle nuanced acting I have grown to like with Aaron/Paddy etc!

  6. #906
Maisie wasn't so much about subtle nuanced acting, which is probably not good for you. Her style was more spinning in circles, flailing her arms around in the air, tossing her hair everywhere, throwing things and then collapsing in a heap like a rag doll when she was finished.

The Maisie fruit bowl-assisted meltdown is the stuff soap dreams are made of. Even today when I watch that clip I end up basically in tears on the floor. Astonishingly I don't think it's on youtube but I'll keep an eye out. I say definitely watch the Wylde saga if you have the time or the will... it was pretty different from the Aaron story but much more up my street for all the reasons Rob mentioned. Natasha is the greatest character ever bar none. Her son Nathan was also a brilliant bastard with a penchant for blackmail which is always fun. Then there was Maisie who kept falling for the wettest guys you could possibly imagine... unfortunately for her one was her brother and the other was a virgin. And then you had Mark Wylde who had not learned to act in the slightest in the years since he was on Grease 2 and his mistress Faye Lamb who was excellent at strutting around looking like a tragic porcelain doll.

I have to confess I was willing Jackson to top himself for about six months before it finally happened. That story was so dragged out. I only enjoyed it near the start when Aaron came out and had the meltdown, and then after Jackson was dead and Hazel became a mildly creepy stalker.

Oh dear lord. That was almost as good as "bubbly in the fridge"!!!

They've confirmed a live episode for the 40th anniversary in October! Apparently the week of episodes will include two weddings and two births and somebody 'is pregnant right now but doesn't know it'. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Charity because Jai's dad was randomly encouraging him to have a kid of his own last week.

That's gonna be some organizational headache! I'm guessing it'll be all indoor scenes so, seeing as the two sets are about ten miles away from each other. As for the pregnancy, I thought it'd be Alicia at first (obvious drama), but she'll actually be on maternity leave at that point. So I'm putting my money on Gennie. I feel like that's where the signs are pointing.

  13. #913
I think it will be Chas. One of the births is bound to be Debbie, surely they wouldn't miss the drama of having Chas give birth too.

The dates wouldn't match up though, unless she gave birth 3 months early. But then I think Ronnie's pregnancy in EE was a miraculously short one to give them the baby swap drama so you never know.

I think the pregnant woman might be Laurel.

I am already sick of Chas and Cameron's "we must end this/let's make a go of it/we must end this" affair. Hope they don't drag it out till the anniversary!

I love the Alisha/Rachel/David scenes, I think they are my favourite characters at the moment.

This Zak storyline is absolutely hilarious.

    Butch! Butch?! BUUUUUUUUUTCH.

Emmerdale's been really great over the last few weeks its the best soap at the moment.

LOL are you being serious Betty? Most of the stories right now are shit! The good bits are Rachel/David/Alicia/Holly, the Home Farm stuff and anything with Nicola. But the Chaseron affair is so rank and the Zak breakdown is ridiculous. DON'T MYTHER ME WOMAN I'M GOIN' OUT TO STRANGLE A CHICKEN NOW.

Being a fan of something doesn't mean you have to enjoy it when it's going through a crappy period.

  23. #923
Nah, EastEnders is better right now.

Are you serious Eastenders is at a very low point I think most viewers think that, Emmerdale is miles better in acting, storylines and character interaction with likeable characters.

Unless it's a scene involving Janine, I can assure you I haven't said anything about EastEnders was 'brilliant' in quite a while.
