well that's just disappointing really. such a waste and why would she believe she'd be competing?

  2. #227
It despairs me each time she speaks... its like she really can;t be bothered with her fans. belinda we are not expecting you to compete or have to appear on every single programme to get a single into the top 10. We just want you to release some new music to keep us happy. Surely its financially viable (if she can afford to do bloody cushions).

  3. #228
Well if she disliked the whole shebang before maybe she just doesn't want to get on that treadmill again. Which I suppose is fair enough, much as I'd love a new album from her!
So you like show tunes? That doesn't mean you're gay. It just means you're AWFUL!!!

1987 - 1997... pretty long time to do something she disliked. Oh well. She replied to a facebook post saying they were reworking bits of it

It's now September. The sun has gone. And it looks like Sun has gone from Belinda's mind too. Surely it's not hard to throw it out on itunes....

Big shame. Is there no word at all on Sun?

Just had a bit of a Belinda day, all the albums up to A Woman and a Man are pretty consistently brilliant! I don't find Real so great though, only OK. She definitely had something special, I think it was her voice.

Real's my third favourite after Runaway Horses and Live Your Life Be Free. Big Scary Animal, Lay Down Your Arms, One With You, Goodbye Day, Tell Me and Wrap My Arms are fantabulous. But then it's the first Belinda album I bought, so it'll always have a special place...

The voice and the BIG FAT POP MELODIES.

She does get overlooked a bit though considering how good those albums are - more consistent than Cyndi but always overshadowed by Madonna, Whitney, Janet et al.

Choruses you could hang a hat on. She's back with the GoGos on tour in America I think.

Belinda's run of Heaven, Runaway Horses and Live Your Life comfortably eclipses the combined work of ANY of her peers during that time. For me.

Ha, you think? Well, Madonna from 1987 to 1991 wasn't exactly flawless (just the one superb studio set in that time), and Janet's RN1814 was a bit heavy-handed and patchy (sorry Ray!). Kylie did make Rhythm Of Love in that period, but the other 3 albums from 1988 to 1991 were hardly classics. So, yes Belinda ruled in that era for me!

For me, her albums have aged well. The singles also sound fresh and fun. I absolutely adore "Leave a Light On" and "Summer Rain"; very underrated pop singles.

Decent b-sides too, The Ballad of Lucy Jordan & Jealous Guy are very listenable covers, any other b-sides that people are aware of?

She perfected that late 80s/early 90s pop rock sound, and as a sub-genre of music it hasn't aged badly.

Belinda's back catalogue is just crying for remasters from Runaway Horses onwards!

  19. #244
I think they sound pretty good considering how old they are, a mixed up playlist from the first 5 albums sounds fine on the ipod, but then again I must be half deaf at this stage.

I do find the production on some Runaway Horses album tracks a bit iffy, but Live Your Life still sounds great after 20 years.

I See No Ships from the In Too Deep single is great - was that a cover or an original song?

No the songs haven't aged too badly. In Too Deep was the first single I ever bought (I love the classyness of her beehive photo on the cover) and the song has aged really well. It's such a shame that she just stopped and decided to go down the route of doing singing the same 4-5 songs each year on the Here and Now tour and doing yet another bloomin Go Gos tour. I thought they did their thirs farewell tour back in 2010...?

No, its all gone quiet on Sun

An undervalued and underexploited catalogue, this.

Who knows what is about to happen with the Virgin and EMI stuff, given the Universal merger business? Whatever happens I think there will be some fruit falling from the shaken tree...

She toured Europe in 2011, I saw her in Berlin - early 2011 and the venue was tiny and half empty.
That is why she does 80s tours and GoGos tours. Sad I know.

The concert was amazing, I loved it. 1,5 hours Belinda.

I can understand why she does those, but 10 years ago she could have still potentially had some kind of success. I can remember over 10 years ago she premiered some new song at a race course which never got released. sigh.

Yes. I agree. I think an album has a greater chance for success than one off singles. A lot of older people who would have an interest in Belinda tend not to buy singles, but they do like to buy albums. Does it really take two years to make an album? I'm sure she must know people who have home studios so I can't see making an album would be that expensive. She doesn't have to do that much extensive promo. Just a few newspaper interviews and mostly promote it online.
